Lyrics:
(1, 2, 3, 4) The highways jammed with broken heroes
On a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight
But there's no place left to hide
Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
Oh, someday girl, I don't know when
We're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go, and we'll walk in the sun
But till then, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to run

How in God's name can anyone write a song like that at the age of 24/25 years is unbelievable. The greatest songwriter of our age! Must have heard Born to run 20 plus times live, you know what's coming, you know gonna happen, but it still blows your mind when the first and last chord is struck. Thanks for the ride, Bruce.

way back in June of 1984 I was at his concert in the south of France...I was standing next to a very beautiful southern California girl named Carrie at mid field of the soccer field... she said it would be nice to be at the front of the stage ! I said climb on my shoulders and I'll carry you there ! She did and we made it to the stage a song or two before he played this song . When he started to play Born to Run she said that she hopes that Bruce will see her . I said take off your top and he will . She did and as he was singing - he looked and pointed at her and gave a thumbs up ! the whole crowd CHEERED ...

I was at a friends apartment in Boston in early September 1975 and he said to me, " you gotta listen to this guy...He's from New Jersey and he writes some great stuff" He queued up "Born to run" on the turntable, turned it up and he left the room. I began to cry about half way through the opening track because I realized that someone had written the perfect kick-ass, teenage/love, rock song. 46 years later and it still holds that title for me.

Her passing completely shattered my heart as she has been a major part of my life. Lived in Richmond, VA. Class of 75. There was a small, but vocal, group of guys in my class who were die-hard Bruce Springsteen fans. Played his music at every party. I was more of an Allman Brothers/Zeppelin guy. So during the summer after graduation I get a call from a classmate, he has two seats to see Springsteen at the Richmond Mosque, which seats maybe 5000. He can't go, would I be interested in the tickets? I ask, "How much?" "$6 each. $12 total." So I buy them the day of the show, 8/1/75. Seats are third row, center, on the aisle. He opens sitting by himself center stage, backlist with blue spotlight. No band. Sings Thunder Road. Unforgetable. Born to Run tour. And the small, but vocal group of guys grew by one....

He played for 4 hours and 20 minutes. And he PLAYED. It was the most energetic, show I've ever seen and I've seen loads. After that show and after seeing 30,000 odd people totally taken by him, I couldn't help but love the guy, his music and more than that, what he stands for. Greetings from Iran

LYRICS: In the day we sweat it out on the streets Of a runaway American dream At night we ride through the mansions of glory In suicide machines Sprung from cages on Highway 9 Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line Oh, baby this town rips the bones from your back It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap We gotta get out while we're young 'Cause tramps like us, baby, we were born to run Yes, girl, we were Wendy, let me in, I wanna be your friend I wanna guard your dreams and visions Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims And strap your hands 'cross my engines Together we could break this trap We'll run 'til we drop, baby, we'll never go back Oh, will you walk with me out on the wire? 'Cause, baby, I'm just a scared and lonely rider But I gotta know how it feels I want to know if love is wild Babe, I want to know if love is real Oh, can you show me Beyond the Palace, hemi-powered drones Scream down the boulevard Girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors And the boys try to look so hard The amusement park rises bold and stark Kids are huddled on the beach in the mist I wanna die with you, Wendy, on the street tonight In an everlasting kiss The highway's jammed with broken heroes On a last chance power drive Everybody's out on the run tonight But there's no place left to hide Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness I'll love you with all the madness in my soul Oh, someday, girl, I don't know when We're gonna get to that place Where we really wanna go and we'll walk in the sun But 'til then, tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Oh honey, tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Come on with me, tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Songwriters: Bruce Springsteen

I briefly listened to Bruce as a kid, but never religiously. Then I showed a friend Born in the U.S.A earlier this year, and decided to pop on Born to Run and Dancing in the Dark for nostalgias sake. Since then I've clocked over 100 hours, I listen to him whenever I get the chance. This man just gets me, it's like he was born decades before his time. He's inspired me to try and live my life to the fullest, to actually express myself and my sexuality. To do what I want instead of just daydream. Gah that was pretentious but I had to get that out to the world somehow.

My father is a huge Bruce fan and I remember him showing me this video on the living room TV when I was 8 years old and how he talked about every band member and the history behind his love for Bruce. Now 11 years later I’m eternally great full my dad got me in to rock music and especially Bruce’s

They were having so much fun back then :}. This song freed me. I was in an ugly relationship and I kept hearing this on the radio. Then, one day,I just got the courage listening to this and I went and filled my backpack up and left for good. I never looked back.

I met this guy personally face-to-face at the Brooklyn Museum at an art exhibit! And to make matters even more awesome I drew his caricatures and didn’t even realize it was him until somebody pointed it out to me! Bruce loved it because it wasn’t one of the few times that he got treatedIn public like a regular guy.

This song has gotten me through the darkest times of my life. Everytime I hear it and see what he's doing on stage, it makes me want to be there more and more. Its because of Springsteen that I picked up a telecaster in the first place. It's because of him that I started music. And it's because of him that I wrote my first song which is gonna be the last song on my first album. Thank you Bruce for all you did for me and for everyone that comes after

I'm sure in the 70s and 80s this was the anthem for every frustrated young person who wanted to quit their shitty job, tell their boss to fuck off, and go travel across the country! I wish it was as easy to do that today.

Maybe "easy" wasn't the best word, but seems like you could pick up odd jobs or blue collar work (or anything) much easier. Now everything is apply online, and they do 30 interviews for cashier jobs, lol. It strikes me it'd be easier to support yourself "on the go" in those days.

As an old man who lived through it. I can tell you or sucked. On the 70's the interest rate was 18% and if you had a job you had to keep it. I was laid off from three jobs in 1975. I had a 1 year old daughter and a wife. By 1976I was a Viet Nam vet making $4.50 am hour working the strip mines and happy to have a job. Things are MUCH better now. Trust me
