This video is a follow on from the first WILL It Start for this old Bulldozer since it was initially retrieved from the middle of the paddock some months ago. With three tractors hopelessly bogged, it finally has an opportunity to be useful once again if we can get it running again. Thanks for watching!

Hey Bruce, when I was about 10 yrs old they straightened the road in front of our house. The hill, which was quite large, became the source of the crushed stone for the road base. A crushing plant was set up and the work began. They were using a D9 Cat for removing the overburden and then assisting the crushing operation. Every morning is hear the pony motor start up and then the big diesel. I'd sit on the edge to the hill side and watch the progress. One day the D9 operator stopped the machine and waved me over. He helped me up on the dozer and we made a couple passes moving material. 63 years later I still remember that experience well. Thanks for the great videos 😊

There's a channel on here where a contractor in the US does all his own maintenance of the various Cats he operates.(jaypaydirt) There's a vid of him driving his dads D9 when he was 12, actually working and not just playing around.

What a trooper. You're still in recovery but find the energy to go and help others. At least it was well worthwhile. Recovering three tractor rigs in one mission. All in all that must have been a full day's work. A very successful mission Bruce and being the gentleman you really are, you found the time to thank the cameraman and the farmers you were recovering for helping you. Let's face it it's not a situation where you could phone a recovery company to save the day. Don't know if you like a beer but you deserve freebies for life after this mission.

If you have air cleaners with a lot of dry dust in them, and you start up on a damp morning, the moisture will hit the dust and in seconds the dust turns into a kind of mud that chokes off the air badly. A lot of the shire councils, block off the high speed gears on their dozers, to stop people stuffing the tracks.

Nice work Bruce, Goes to show its all about ground pressure, not weight. 30T over 30 square feet of track is only 15 psi where the tractor is 5T on 3 square feet of tyre or 26 psi.

Another great show. Yes, please, on doing a show on the grader. I've been on and worked farms and ranches for most of my 56 year's and love when they modify machine's because it's what they could afford. Those old guys are part engineer. I knew one that took a model A Ford and used the frame engine and transmission and used it to power a chopper mixer for pig feed. I last saw him run it in 1990. It fired right up. He since passed away. Old Shelby Cook has long since passed. I bet that old rig would still run if he was around.

An excellent demonstration of the situation where there's no replacement for good old fashioned grunt; the old girl barely noticed the tractors she was pulling out of the mire. Check hydraulic oil level when the rams/ pistons are in the up position. If you look at the dipstick while the hydraulics are in the lower position, It will give you a high reading. This is because the oil has been retracted from the hydraulic cylinders and back to sump. Which will raise level you are reading on the dipstick . I learned this from a 1969 Ford 3000 diesel tractors owners manual
@TINRFD
@TINRFD 3 күн бұрын
That would be true, if these were single-acting cylinders like the one in most (older) tractors, were the hydraulic lifting arms can only lift, but not push down. The dozer has double-acting cylinders, which can push/pull in both ways. When the piston is retracted into the cylinder the piston-rod displaces oil, so there is more oil in the sump. It´s the other way around in this case.

Thank you Bruce; one of the best yet. Your cameraman/person is very, very good, as is the editing. Almost pro documentary level. That’s diesel and gasoline heavy equipment for you, at least on the older engines. If it bogs down it is either lack of air, fuel, or spark. On one gas engine rig I tried to start in TX it bogged just like that, but it wasn’t air or fuel-the damn muffler was almost stopped up! There was so much back pressure that it blew out the side of the muffler and then it was fine. After we cut the old muffler apart, we found that Mud-dauber wasps had built a HUGE series of nests inside final muffler stage, accessing it via the down-curved outlet pipe. The straight pipe was LOUD but it ran like a champ after that! Best wishes from Carmel, CA! If I can ever make it Down Under visiting you will be near the top of my list! 👍👍
