Im loving your videos. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering how you have the pot or plate stay still on the wheel? How do you stop it from moving?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Sue. Good question. The pottery stays on the wheel because I'm not applying too much pressure with the brush. Plus the pot does not have to be exactly centered. If you do happen to push your pot too far off-center, just stop the wheel and push it back in the center. It is a fun way to glaze. 😍

Hi. I inherited my mother’s kiln and wheel. I absolutely love your videos. I’m having problems with my glaze crazing. Can you give me some suggestions? My kiln is a scutt with manual sitter. I’m glazing by brush.
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Arnita. It's great that you are making pottery😍 There are several reasons for crazing. Let's start with a simple fix. Wait until your kiln is around 150 or less to open. It's best to slow fire. And do your clay and glazes fit? Are they expanding and contracting together? I had crazing until I waited for my kiln to cool down all the way and it stopped. Hopefully, this will help. 😊

What kind of wax resist is best but also cheap for a high school class?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 жыл бұрын
I think the best is Amaco wax resist. It's great for the classroom because it is green and the students can see where they applied it. You can get it here geni.us/7c2XIG but if you want cheap you are better off getting a gallon. It costs much less and you will have a good amount that should last a while in the classroom. You can get it here geni.us/9Iju 👍😊

My hands get dry so use a lot of lotion. 😊The lotion got on my bisqueware and the glaze did not stick. So now I wear gloves when I can or make sure my hands are nice and clean and dry when I can't wear gloves. Like applying stickers or transfers. 😀

Yeah, how many coats are you putting on there? I thought glaze was limited to 2 or 3 coats?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I put 3 coats on and sometimes 2 to 3 more on the rim so the glaze flows down the pottery. 😊 The amount of coats is determined by how thick your application is and how stable your glaze is.
