Wonder if a gear puller would work. THe other thing I'd try is putting down some wood on top of the housing and shiming in a felling wedge. (One per side)

I just took my 5 ft Howse brush cutter apart with an air tool for the blades and a gear puller for the stump jumper. The blades came off with about 30 seconds with the air tool. I bought a gear puller rated for 7 tons for $97. Best $97 I ever spent. Took about 5 minutes, no heat, no hammering.
