@@beebee4095 I think that, for most of the people looking at art tutorials, they mistake volume for quality. I often wonder how, for instance, anyone can put out 600 pages on how to play golf while at the same time claiming it is such an "easy" game to learn. The best golf books are the shortest golf books. I think that the same is probably true for watercolors.

I learned more about how to achieve the look I'd like to produce by watching this video than from reading a 'how to' and very much appreciate the steps illustrated from the blank paper to the finished painting. The choice and use of various brushes was also something I really needed to see illustrated, hands on. Very helpful video.

Hi Oliver, as an artist and art teacher myself I appreciate your exceptional skill and sensitivity to colour and detail. Watercolour is endlessly rewarding. Artists have the knack of seeing beauty where most people overlook it and miss out on life. I do art and music , as you may detect from the Name and always loved when teaching classes to not only paint well but to achieve the ability see. Many look but less see. The journey in any painting is so enjoyable. Your work is very enjoyable to watch, not to mention inspiring and motivational. Thank you for you therapeutic uploads. Bless you, Mervyn

Nicely done Oliver. A very good look at brush results. Few people take the time to include so much information as to the technique toward the desired result. Also good on you for not speeding up the content. There is a place for that, you chose well. Your suggestion for the value of older brushes is precicely on the point. Your mixing in the wells is very informative. Your comment that you'll use that later is genius. Leaving too much of a color that is wanted later, just not so much right now, is masterful. You are the first left handed painter I have seen on KZfaq. My Dad and older brother are both left handers and I have spent my life being both at times. I wish you calm warm breezes, Brian.

Excellent tutorial. I learned several strokes I had done on some paintings, but you clarified my understanding of what they can be indicating (meaning glistening, spray, and shadow. Olly, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate watching you paint in almost real time - it makes a huge difference to be able to see what the colours look like when they are wet, and how they dry. As a relative newcomer to watercolours, I'm still learning that particular skill, so seeing them go on darker than I probably would do it, has taught me a lot! I love this harbour and boats painting, and thank you for taking the time to show us how you did it iwith the sunlit colours and the shadow colours, and how you paint around some of the shapes - and that rigging!
