Thanks for the review! I own L461 (P510) for couple of months and absolutely love the car. I cannot compare to older/other Range Rovers (which you do in your video) but I've had the opportunity to compare with Audi Q8, BMW X5 and BMW X6 which I owned last 3 years. Ride of RR is another level compared to these cars. Absolute hit of the car.

A really good review Joel, thanks. A couple of points to make, I own the new L460 Range Rover and my brother in law owns the new L461, as regards the steering issue, I agree that there is one. However there is one glaring difference between the two models that you might of missed, all 460's come with 4 wheel steering as standard, only the big engined 461's come with it as standard, it's an option on all other models, and boy is it a game changer. The big Range Rover is way better at handling roads good or bad, slow or fast due to the 4 wheel steering, at slow speeds the big Range Rovers wheels turn in the opposite direction, and at higher speeds they turn in the same direction, speed bumps, pot holes seem to be smothered as you would expect. My brother in laws 461 is way more fidgety than the 460, way more, in fact it just doesn't feel right. It does help to turn off the lane assist, but it still is an issue. My 460 has had two over the air software updates and now the problem has vanished, so I think Land Rover knew about it. Both are seriously great cars, but the 4 wheel steering is a game changer for me. All the best!

Do the brakes for the l460 require replacement every 10 to 15k miles? I hear the rear steering reduce rear brake life.

Great honest review Joel! As I love Range Rovers I really love watching reviews, but it's even better from someone who's actually had one as their daily driver. It would be good to have a back-to-back with the older generation RRS as it doesn't seem that all the changes are improvements.

Agree excellent review. I have had my L461 RRS Autobiography D300 for about 9 months/10k miles now. First thing to say is that after my test drive at the dealer, I optioned 20" wheels instead of the standard 22" ones, partly in an attempt to soften the ride but also to get higher profile tyres for better puncture resistance on the dreadful roads around where I live (Bucks). But yes the ride is still a bit fidgety but for me the payback is better body control, certainly compared to my previous L405 P400e which drove like a galleon in storm so far as I'm concerned. And yes the steering is a bit heavy and artificial but personally I prefer that to the overlight steering of the L405. The L461 is no sports car of course but actually I find it quite fun to punt down windy roads. It is called Sport after all. I agree with you on the engine. The D300 is a peach and I dont find myself wanting more power; I'm so glad I went back to diesel after the wheezing P400e PHEV engine package. I regularly average 35-36mpg on fast motorway runs which I find impressive. And yes the whole car is very refined but mine suffers from the same problem as other earlier RRS's and that is wind noise from around the wing mirror which is irritating. And I agree with you entirely on touchscreens in cars. They are dangerous and to put some seat and climate system controls on the touchscreen is a joke. For me the most frustrating thing about the car

Is the split tailgate really a bonus on the big one? Having owned several, plus Land Cruisers and pickups with such tailgates, only on the pickups do I find the feature of any utility. On a day to day basis it just means a massive stretch to reach anything from the boot and an impossible reach when stuff is up against the second row seat backrest. To that end I always carry a proper authentic alloy shepherds crook to hook stuff and pull them to within reach. On a pickup it enables a pallet to be loaded or a long load, longer than five foot, to be carried flat, so that works, particularly on pickups that have a step up to the open tailgate, such as the latest generation Ford Ranger.

One of the best overview of this car! Thanks! Regarding changing the lanes and power you need to apply - could be a feature of lane tracking control, and once you turn on the corner light - stearing should become easy for a few seconds until you finish a maneuvr.

Great video Joel! Love your honesty and this detailed review... epic! What are your thoughts around depreciation on the new Sport? For me as someone who has been looking at one of these as a new car, given the much higher starting costs, long wait times for a specified build and way over list pricing for dealer demo vehicles in Australia I ordered a Porsche Macan GTS instead, but when the car world normalises one day the Sport will likely come back on the shopping list...

Nice video Joel. I own the D350 Autobiography which I purchased in June this year. First drive was down to Annecy in France so plenty of motorway 70mph driving. To answer your observations about steering I have to say I have not experienced any issues as you describe. I may suggest an explanation for you and in doing so have no intention of criticism of your driving style. A new legal requirement is for all cars to have monitors to ensure both hands are kept on the steering wheel. Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to implement safety issues to ensure the vehicle maintains its position on the road. I notice your hands are all over the place, and as you suggest you enjoyed sticking your hands through holes etc. These are not hand holds! My car is on 23 inch wheels and again I find no problems with road surface feedback, however having been used to BMW vehicles with harder suspension settings perhaps I'm more used to issues. Totally agree with your driving style. I just love driving it and am never in a rush. I also get well into 40+ mpg. Thoroughly enjoyed your drive. PS. The fridge was an extra. Don't even have one on Autobiography spec.

The suspension works like that on the old LRs too :) Also if you ride slow it starts to be loose and shakes on sole road inperfections. Even that LRS are gread rides :) The calibration is based on streering weel sensorm, air suspension sensors and speed i think. Based on this tree thing it messures how to callibrate.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%, I just bought a 2024 Sport last week, and the steering is super annoying. My hands get tired, I'm used to steering with my arm on my leg and using my thumb, I can not do this with this SUV , my hand starts to hurt. I have to constantly change hand position. It takes the fun out of driving. I'm not looking forward to a road trip. I hope this can be modified.

I’m afraid the ride, as is well known by many, who would not drive any thing else, including myself, is all down to the low profile tyres. I’m on my 40th Range Rover(I’m old!!) and it’s all about the profile. People want big wheels??? Why? So they have low profile tyres on their 22” or 23” wheels and there’s no compliance in the side walls, hit a bump and ouch ! If you want the waffting ride and total lack of banging suspension then go for the max wheel size of 20”. If it’s a L322 then it’s a max of 18”. Simples

I think the ride for cars at these price is a selling factor for me. It’s a shame this has this ride. I know he called the wheels ‘not too big’ and yet their 22’s, but these must be the smallest looking 22’s ever as the sidewall is so large for this size of a wheel. I know someone that has a hybrid first edition with 23’s and that must be bad. 48 mpg is mental. The most Iv got in my evoque D200 is about 50 and that was driving slow, like cruising at 50 for a long time. I also like the feature of the hugely powerful sound system, even as an option in the base model. Great video!

Good review, thanks. I totally agree with the ride quality comments you made. I think it might be because of them trying to make it sportier and failing in it. Comparing this to a BMW X5, the Range Rover Sport loses on every aspect as a car, the X5 is even more quiet, the suspension is a lot better tuned, it's comfortable and in sport mode the BMW takes corners a lot better, the engine sounds better, pulls better and has more instant reaction from the gearbox, it just wins in every category except... the feeling of the car. There's just this "civilized truck" feeling in the Ranger Rover compared to the over grown sedan feeling in an X5.

Why don’t JLR integrate the infotainment screen into the dash and console it would look so much neater. With the cost of range rovers to those of us that buy them from new, and can afford to run them, it wouldn’t make much difference in cost to do that. The infotainment system looks like it’s a huge iPad that has been stuck on to the dash, and would be a dust trap that hides the wireless charging pad. The charging pad under it didn’t look that easy to access for those with big hands and sausage fingers. The “iPad” looks like it was forgotten during the initial design……maybe a bit of an “Oh Sh*t, look what we’ve forgotten again guys”! moment from JLR! (Just like the XF Pivi Pro). Apart from this it looks a lovely car!

Totally agree over the suspension, Joel! Range Rover used to be wafting around, nowadays, they just don’t. The full size is a lot better than the Sport for sure, but the previous ones, were just… better. They continue to be one of the best, but now, I just think that the XC90 (2016-, with air suspension) is the most comfy SUV, just behind the full size Range Rover (that costs 2 times more). And then, X7. But the Range Sport, isn’t there anymore. What a pity.

I must say 2 things in particular. 1 - when range rovers of the past were released, all the way back to the l322 when i was 12 years old, i instantly loved and wanted one. This l461 definately doesnt give me that emotion 2 - that touch screen is riddled with fingerprints, which would forever be an issue for me. Weirdly, my l322 with the 1st of the touch screen shows no finger prints, then the last of the l322 with the newer touch screen, which i also own, does show finger prints!
