Not too much into fashion. But whoever came up with the idea 7-8 yrs back for Kohli to grow his beard and do his version of military cut, was a freak in that the whole of India including south started sporting the style till today. And then to keep producing the lion performances professionally. Both combined changed the faces of India. It's the least spoken influence about Kohli and perhaps rightfully so

This trend of being influenced by pop culture celebrities have been there since at least 1960s starting with Beatles, who themselves were influenced by Japanese people (so actually the trend starts with celebrities imitating common people and their cultures that they think is attractive). So in reality people are influenced by other avg folks around the country or world via celebrities and otherwise. I mean Ronaldo and Messi have nearly half a billion followers each. In this case though, their influence is largely on merit cuz they are near perfect in their work life. But yes some blame has to go to us being influenced by less skilled (hence lesser merit) celebrities like most actors. There are sportsmen who are known for their style than their performances like Beckham (a world class player but likely not even in the top 100 best footballers in most neutral people's opinion). But again, who are we to decide that?
