With each passing year I am more and more appreciative of growing up in the 80s. To me, it was the last decade of innocence for youth. It was the absolute best of times and I wish I could relive it all over again. Such nostalgia. ❤

I was only 6, but I rode my bike all over and hung out with friends 'till dusk on the weekdays. Now being a TEEN in the 80s would have been dream come true. None of this phone tag BS parents play now with their teen kids to make sure their 'OK'. No effing Zoom in lieu of real human contact. You could ask the cute coworker at your McJob out on a date without risking a sexual harassment charge. Everyone drank and smoked weed (and occasionally snorted coke), but you didn't have kids dropping like flies from ODing on fentanyl or becoming tweakers. But then there was Reagan...

Sadly, I wished to grow up faster, but had I known how much it actually sucks to be an adult I would have paid more attention to the wonderful time I was having riding my BMX bike, playing Pac-Man, reading comics, playing Wiffle Ball and Manhunt with my friends and the general safety and security I felt. If you're a kid or teenager reading this please, PLEASE make sure you appreciate every minute of every day, you will only be this old once, and someday the people you love and maybe take for granted will start disappearing. Make sure you make great memories and don't be in a rush to grow up.

1988 here - there was some bleedover of 80s culture in the 90s and especially kids shows and commercials were slower to adapt than mainstream culture. Edgy grunge culture may have been in full swing by the mid 90s but that Sunny D commercial was still total cheese, and the Pokemon theme was total Bon Jovi. This is The Midnight song that I listen to the most lately. And Retrowave Cinema makes it an 80's clip. Excellent. The 80's synthwave isn't just about nostalgia, it's a real style that is confirmed like Jazz or Blues can be.

As an early 90s kid I look up to the 80s in a similar way to the way kids look up to an older brother. My favorite decade I never got to experience 😢

The 80s were great, but the nostalgia for it gets a bit too much these days. There was plenty of crap too lol. In the 90s, young people thought the 80s were “cringe”, as the kids say. It’s all cyclical. Always remember the good stuff, no matter when it comes out
@johnz68773 ай бұрын
@@jlee2383 The 90s were a reaction to the 80s cheese for sure. That said, as a 90s/00s kid looking back, I find the edgelord culture of that era to be pretentious and far more "cringe" than anything from the 80s. There's enough misery in the world as is without wallowing in it intentionally for appearances. I'll take the unrealistic starry eyed escapism of the 80s with full awareness that it's just that - escapism to help you get by.
