An album to be played at Twilight. This album deserved more attention - I think it is one of Bryan Ferry's best solo albums. Shades of darkness and decadence but also tremendous beauty.

I’ve always had this as one of his absolute best albums in performance style & production... I don’t know how it slipped through the net, maybe the world was Ferry’d out.... but all these years later it really deserves more recognition.... but then we’d have to share the twilight ❤

@@Mrtalkingstick I think maybe part of the problem was that although it was a very beautiful and powerful and well thought out album there were no real obvious big hit singles to release from it. This was not true of the album before this Boys and Girls which had the very immediate but very wonderful Slave to Love which reached the top ten. You do sometimes get that with albums - a very strong and praiseworthy album with no clear singles. I am a big fan of Crush by OMD and feel this is another example. It can lead to some very good music not being recognised as much as it ought to and not lasting long enough in the collective memory. I say it was part of the problem - no doubt there are other reasons too.

@@user-ii7xk7wb4l Mamouna was another really really great album. Especially the title track and your painted smile. The thing is Bryan Ferry has such momentum behind him that having some albums not doing so well as they clearly ought to is not going to finish him. Olympia proved to be another album with some absolutely wonderful tracks which deserved more acclaim. Heartache by numbers is a wonderful, painfully haunting song. It just goes to show that sometimes you can work very hard and come up with something truly wonderful and good but you are not necessarily going to get the credit you deserved for it. But that truth of course is much bigger than Bryan Ferry - brilliant musician though he is.

This producer at the time also produced Madonna's True Blue album. If you listen carefully you can hear the common thread. It's all in the drums and bass. An excellent choice for him, this is a solid album.

I liked Madonna from Lucky Star, Borderline through to Material Girl etc, but the True Blue single I thought was awful. No disrespect, it's very interesting to know, and contrast/compare the production values.

Saw BF in Arizona in 1988. What a concert in a amphitheater. Women to men ratio was 3:1. I had to ditch college classes for 2 days because I lived in New Mexico. Well worth it. The followup to Boys & Girls. He is the best kept secret in contemporary musique.

Thanks for the rich vinyl sound and upload, so awesome. Many memories of this Bryan ferry album in the late 80's while I was in business school. For me it's art and personal history to be sure, as I value creative people and forces. I was going to say recent history and then realized it is all about what scale of history, social change or an individual, Lol.

Wow this album still sounds so good it’s so pleasing to listen too! Well I was seven years old when I first owned this album on lp record my mother bought it for me as a Christmas gift along side status quo (aint complaining album on lp too ! Seven year old me over the moon and still have those two lp records to this day ! Great music great memories. This album is a work of art and his best solo album for sure though I do love Roxy music! I’d like to add this is a fantastic upload the sound is very close thank you good job where many fail .

Always takes me back to my travels to Thailand. I picked up a bootleg audio tape of this album in Bangkok along with a Neil Young Crazy Horse album - both with dreadful sound quality. I bought the published album of this when I got back too - a legit' vesion - so I didn't diddle Ferry out of his royalty dues. In India the year before, I was all over Boys and Girls. Why some say it was not one of h is better albums is beyond me. It is fantastic although I think Boys and Girls is better. Funny how music is so attached to memories.

@@hazelwray4184 where? The speed is set at 33.3. It doesn't have much drift, even with the reset button turned off. If you can give me a section where it's perceptibly faster than the CD, then let me know.

@@hazelwray4184 hmm... listening to the video here, and it does sound a little fast in places. Faster than my actual original recording. Strange... [edit: or not. That's just the speed of the recording. Does sound a little odd, but better too fast than too slow. Surprising, though, as this deck is pretty accurate.]
