I was telling my Dad about this a few days ago and then it pops up on KZfaq. I'll never forget watching this as a 17 year old! The colour commentator has a Vince Macmahon thing going on with his voice!!!

He lost the championship but won many hearts. I was there at the top of Craner curves to see his dismount.

I was there that day. I remember watching Walker patting the tank of his bike on the start line as if to say - come on, just get me round one last time. Absolutely gutted for him. A long ride home for me

If walker didn’t have a mechanical problem with his bike he would’ve won his first British superbike title of the year 2000

Possibly the bsb championship ever, went to many races that year, neither Chris or Neil deserved to lose that championship as both were fantastic.

Chris was a great determined racer....he was also very heavy on engines. He screwed every rev out of them on braking as well as at the top end. Yeh, sure your racing, but you'll never win if you cant make it to the chequered flag. To be a British or World champion take brains as well as bollocks.

Just picked up a 2000 model srad with only 2500 genuine miles. Came here to see the styling of the paint work on Chris's racebike so i can copy it! Its gunna make a great track / daytime mot bike😊 Yes this is still hard to watch....the worst way possible to go out, worse than a crash!😫

He didn't know what was wrong,it could have been temporary,he was after a championship,what else do you suggest ,telepathy.
@danielt89604 жыл бұрын
@@davidsmith-jj4iq really? Any person who attends rider briefings at races are made aware of the dangers of oil ect. If you've got a rider who can't tell if he's blown an engine (he looks behind several times) by the copious amounts of white smoke bellowing out of a machine are either dangerous or foolhardy. Furthermore has there ever been a rider in any championship who's won a race with a couple of laps to go with a clowd of smoke like that??
@GuzziHeroV504 жыл бұрын
I think it was just determination to try and continue. But imagine if his oil caused a red flag. He'd have been champion. I cannot imagine that would have crossed his mind however.

Totally gutted for Chris... but he should never have carried on that long with that issue. If a backmarker had done that hed have been seriously punished.

White steam out of the exhaust - looks like a blown head gasket. Was the cause analyzed any further?
@r1273m5 жыл бұрын
Well remember this race. Apparently it was a stone through Chris's radiator!
@zx10racer225 жыл бұрын
The cause of the blow up was that an incorrect valve guide had been used when the engine was built - I was told this directly by Simon Green of Crescent Suzuki. Apparently the race guides and standard guides looked very similar and it was a simple mix-up - three cylinders had the race guide in, one had the standard guide in. I was at a lecture given by Simon in late 2004 and asked him this very question in a Q&A session.
