First of all I am very thankful to Sanjay sir and his whole team for organizing such informative and helpful webinar. Sedition law and free speech cannot go hand in hand. Recently Supreme Court has agreed to hear plea filed by journalists challenging sedition law. Constructive criticism must exist in a democratic country. Though free speech is not absolute, and this too is important for integrity of the country. Our judiciary is capable and will very soon make distinction crystal clear.

It was wonderful watching both the biggest luminaries of legal field and the was it was presented before us was quite outstanding. Sedition is the serious offence in the violation of Article 19. So there is a need that sedition laws should have expressly contained words which satisfied the restrictions of Article 19(2). The purpose of restricting speech under Sedition Act is the protection of National Security. Sedition laws should be interpreted and applied according to the guidelines given by the Supreme Court.

Thank you so much, sir, for this very interesting webinar.Sedition law is, without a doubt, a contentious topic that must be balanced against our "Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression." In a number of occasions, Section 124A has been challenged in court. The provision's constitutionality was confirmed by a Constitution Bench in 1962 in Kedarnath Singh vs State of Bihar, which stated that every citizen has the freedom to criticise or comment on the government. A citizen may criticise the government as long as it does not incite people to violence or create public disorder.

Highly informative and enriching session on one of the most controversial issues of modern India- Sedition. Thank Sanjay Sir and BSK Legal for this session. Sedition was born as an oppressive tool and is still used for the same purposes. It is often observed that various cases of sedition are filed against people for criticizing government policies. It is imperative to distinguish between complaint, advocacy and incitement. As pointed out by Sanjay Sir, the judgment in Kedarnath Singh v. State of Bihar has tactfully provided the caveat for sedition stating that it is a requirement for sedition law to apply that the comments of the accused cause incitement amongst people leading to public disorder and violence. Sedition indeed needs a relook, where the law is modified in a such a way that only cases of true sedition come under its ambit. The governments should not be allowed to satisfy its ego by exploiting a law which must be used only in rare cases. This quote by Justice Ansari will be with me for the times to comes: "When the government fear people, it is liberty and when the people fear the government, it is tyranny." Thank you BSK Legal for this amazing session.

Thank you sir for the wonderful session. It is not the alleged seditious acts that are creating fragments in the society. It is rather the ill-treatment of individuals and labelling them that are really creating cracks in the society and political environment. While the sedition law needs a relook, there is also need of upholding the principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity more firmly and offer space for healthy objection.

Sedition is a conduct or speech that incites people to war or hatred against the authority in administration. As the law of sedition has always been one of the most contentious topics of constitutional law jurisprudence in India, with views ranging from calls for the complete abolition of the provision from our statute books to those advocating for retaining the sedition clause in its entirety with a more vigorous implementation. One of the best session by our respected Sanjay sir who always gives a new way of knowing what and how about the subjects. Here while talking about the reformation of sedation law he has well said. Where is we can see, the court has examined the march of law up to the Kedarnath case (1962), and has concluded that disapprobation without the excitement of feelings to incite public disorder resulting in violence, would not amount to disaffection under section 124A. In contrast, in another recent order of the Supreme Court in the case of M/S Aamoda Broadcasting Co. Pvt. Ltd. v. State, it was observed that the scope of section 124A requires an interpretation in context of the rights of the press and of those who are critical of the government. Unlike the Vinod Dua judgment, this order perceives a need for comprehensive sedition law reform in a post-truth world where the safeguards built by Kedarnath struggle to suffice.

Sedition laws and their growing misuse by governments of all stripes (including opposition-ruled states) are a matter of serious concern. Personal liberty and the right to free speech are hallmarks of liberal democracy and sedition laws and their gross misuse attack the very foundation of these liberties enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The need of the hour requires the judiciary to review this draconian law. Thank you sir for providing us such informative videos!!

"If the people fear the government it is tyranny and when the government fears the people; it is liberty" Thomas Jefferson's words quoted by Hon' Justice Iqbal Ansari sir can be held true to the dot in today's sense. Today the line differentiating between the right to freedom of speech and expression and the expression of sedition is drawn and blurred by the authorities and changing governments according to their convenience. Dissent is the backbone of democracy and curbing dissent is the first blow towards destroying the Democratic nature of our country and a step towards autocracy. Best session I have attended so far on the Section 124 A - Sedition Law. Sanjay Sir and Hon' Justice both gave fair perspectives and both sides of the law. Thank you Sir for this session.

It was an honor to be a part of this wonderfully enriching session. Sedition law has indeed become an oppressive tool in the present day. Though the conviction rate is very minimal but it has become a sophisticated way to harass the citizens and journalists who criticize the government policies. The Shreya Singhal judgement gave the distinction between discussion, advocacy and incitement. As Justice Hansari sai "A good advocacy can also lead to incitement." The Constitution of India, no where mentions the word sedition rather guarantees us the freedom of speech and expression. As Justice Chandrachud said it's time to relook and revise our sedition law, truly reveals the seriousness of the situation. Constructive criticism is the testimony of true democracy. And India being a constitutionally democratic country, in no way should curtail this freedom rather the government to make its governance better and citizen friendly must sportively accept and work upon these criticism.

Law is a dynamic field and with the changing times, every law needs a relook especially this sedition law according to the circumstances of the nation. Sanjay Sir has very rightly said that Constructive criticism is the part and parcel of the democracy and every person has a right to speak and dissent to govt. policies subject to some restrictions but it does never amounts to sedition. It was a great delight to hear Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari and Sanjay Sir's perspectives on this subject. It was a very in-depth and necessary session. On the subject of sedition, I'd want to point out that, while this regulation was created to safeguard the nation and does not hurt anyone intrinsically, it has been and continues to be widely exploited in the past and present. The Indian constitution ensures freedom of speech and expression, not rights oppression. True democracy is evidenced by constructive criticism. And India, as a constitutionally democratic country, should not restrict this freedom; rather, the government should embrace and act on these complaints in order to improve its governance and make it more citizen-friendly.

First and foremost, Sir, thank you for allowing us to learn so much. The practical issues of sedition legislation were fully discussed, as well as the necessity for change. "Liberty is when the government fears the people, and tyranny is when the people fear the government." Sir, you have certainly struck a chord, and I thank you for this session. The fact that Justice Chandrachud stated that "it is time to relook and amend our sedition legislation" demonstrates the gravity of the matter. True democracy is evidenced through constructive criticism. And India, as a constitutionally democratic country, should not restrict this freedom; rather, the government should embrace and work on this criticism in order to improve its administration and make it more citizen-friendly.

Law of Sedition was enforced by the people who colonised India to keep the citizens in check, but presently an independent and democratic nation does not need such laws. Thorough scrutiny must be done to prevent the misuse of Section 124A of the IPC. Amendments, new rules and regulations is also necessary for the same.

Thank you sir for this much needed and information session on sedition law . It is high time that reforms are brought in sedition laws to avoid further misues of these laws by the government as weapon against the people who criticize them . Very relevant to current times.

Thank you sir for this enlightening session! Sedition goes against people who disrespect the constitution and sow the seeds of polarization. The session precisely surfaced the background, judgements and contemporary turbans and provided an in-depth understanding of the concept. It was a great discussion about the relook towards sedition law.

This was literally one of the best sessions.
