SUGA talks in a bit more detail in the Making behinds for the video, but essentially “Amygdala” is the story of how Agust D got his scar, how Yoongi created this persona to express his pain and the darker, angrier parts of his psyche. The dark room with the closed door, and then the floor tilting - some of the best visual representations of depression and intrusive thoughts that I’ve ever seen on camera. This video profoundly affected me when I first saw it and I couldn’t watch it again for a few days. “Daechwita” comes after this video in the timeline of Agust D’s life. The blonde king Agust D is the one born out of this room, angry, greedy, huge ego, etc. The black-haired upstart in that video is the slightly older Agust D who usurps the king with the help of his crew in the course of the video. “Haegeum” comes after “Daechwita” - the black haired guy from “Daechwita” is the mob boss now. Maybe he’s been corrupted, who knows - his scar is more healed, but he’s falling into the greed that the blonde king did, too. The thief in “Haegeum” is Agust D without the scar. He wants to be free. He steals the money and burns it, and kills the corrupt Agust D. The events in the song are some of the biggest traumas in his life, and his ruminations over them. I can’t speak for him but I have OCD also and often can’t let go and will ruminate over whether I did the right thing for years, decades afterward. I get stuck in a cycle that looks a lot like the MV. Your amygdala helps process these things so you recognize danger and have appropriate fear responses but it can also lock you into feeling that trauma over and over again, and you get trapped in that room, like he does. Ugh, SUGA. I love him. His parents are both living and as far as we know, they’re fine now! A beautiful ending to this, though - during the final show of his D-Day tour, after the last song, the white door appeared at the back of the stage. And he bowed to everyone, waved, and walked out the door - kind of signaling an end to this period of his life, and that he feels healed now.

@@mev9752 🙄 Damn solos! Why are numbers important for a song about *personal* and *deep* trauma?! He himself put up the warning before the song. It is not meant to be streamed! Do it with "Haegeum" and "People Pt. 2" but leave "Amygdala" out of it. Some people can't see it (their own trauma or too young) and it is for adults (self-harm is not funny and should not be processed in numbers)!

One of the things that’s so fascinating about BTS is how multimedia they are. For example, the end of Agust D’s mv trilogy (Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala) where Agust D/Yoongi explores his past trauma isn’t concluded during the last mv (amygdala), it’s during his last D-Day concert. It wasn’t until after Agust d/Yoongi performed all these songs/worked out these emotions(and the last day was an especially emotional performance) that he was able to successfully walk through the door. It’s like to get the whole BTS story, you need to watch more than MVs but be engaged in everything- the vlives, shows, performances, etc bc it all ties together. It’s really something else

I bet someone already said it, but here I go. Trilogy in order: 1. Daechwita 2. Haegeum 3. Amygdala (works as a prequel) In Daechwita he's become this "mad king" with a little too much power (scar is visibly prominent and fresh) then the commoner who came to end the mad king's reign (is still him but his scar is healing little by little) Then comes Haegeum the corrupted police (I think was the commoner who was still trying to control and judge everything has the scar but it's fading, looks like an old scar almost vanishing) and then comes the regular person (still him but not scars) and actually gets rid of the police. At this point they all have become one. Instead of disappearing they merged into what Min Yoongi/Suga/AgustD is now. Now he doesn't disassociate by names, he doesn't really care how people call him, he is all of them at once. As for Amygdala... This is really heavy because you see the struggles that lead him to disassociate himself to try to cope with everything he was going through. His mom was sick while he was a baby, and I guess that's why he felt like he was missing some love. She's still alive. When he entered Big Hit music, the company wasn't doing well, they weren't making money so they weren't being paid, but their dream kept them around so he had to work part time as delivery and got in an accident (just like in the video) he had to lie and say that he fell down the stairs because he was afraid they weren't going to let him continue in the group. He struggled with shoulder injury for 8(ish) years until 2021 when he HAD to get surgery, because the pain was unbearable. And the call at work telling him his dad had cancer is also true (I think I kinda know when that happened, but I don't want to make a mistake so, I'll let others fill in the timeline) His dad is also still alive. All those events and everything that was happening in their career (you can read more in their book "Beyond The Story:10 Year Record of BTS") was bottling up in him and he was trapped in his brain. That's when he created the alter egos. He's been studying psychology (he'd like to become a therapist) and he's learned to manage and sort out a lot of his traumas, he's now calmer and you can tell in the way he speaks. He was on tour in the US and Asia and he said he now wants to do all kinds of different music. He doesn't feel as angry anymore and wants to evolve. Even tho we LOVE angry Min Yoongi, I think it's amazing to see his journey and even more awesome that he wants to share it with us, in many different ways. If you ever get the chance to watch concert 28 (the final one) that was an AWESOME concert. I still get emotional when I see clips of it. I would recommend listening to his discography AgustD, AgustD D2, and D-Day (Again, a trilogy) you won't be disappointed. To me, albums are made to be listened to from top to bottom. And then you can watch the MVs 🤷🏻‍♀️ just a suggestion Sorry for the rambling 😬 I hope I made sense😊

Amygdala was the last one to be released it was what tied the story together. It explains where the scar came from. The accident was a real event where he got hit by a car as a delivery driver on his motorcycle around 2012 and dislodged his shoulder but he didn’t tell the company as he wasn’t supposed to be working and he didn’t want to be cut off the team or told to not work. So it’s going through his memories/hardships. He finally got surgery in 2020 after a long time suffering with his injury P.s. I love the set up you guys have.

The amygdala holds our memories of bad things...our fears and sadness related to those things...and apparently Yoongi (his real name) ) took the name from a book that he borrowed from RM called "Almond", which is supposedly the size and shape of the amygdala. If you see some vid clips of his solo final World tour concert a week ago , at the end of his concert he walked to the back of the stage facing with a white door( remember the white door in amygdala he was struggling to get out), then he is facing back again to the audience before opening the door waving his hands saying goodbyes to the Armys this finale is different because he really take his time greetings and long wavings to the armys before closing the door behind him, normally every concert he got after the last song he will left and no looking back but that last day is kind of so meaningful and so different. I got goosebump watching that part. Suga showed us the significant in connection with his pretty much emotional vulnerable and raw song AMYGDALA. Overcoming His past struggles and hardship, n his 10 years career , the kid who once a delivery boy while also a trainee in Big Hit that time, will all his dedication, enormous of hardwork and determination All impossible became possible to him. When he opened tge door and got out , it was a symblolism of " I made it, Im free!" . I think thats the reason Yoongi was very overwhelmly emotional performing most of those autbiographical songs ( SNOOZE, AMYGDALA , DEAR MY FRIEND) On his last final day of his concert because even him couldn't imagine of how far he came along and how big he became today! The very first member of BTS who do a solo world Tour concert, full pack and sold out ( its not including Europe yet sorry European armys i know yiu were crying for yoongi's concert there im sure it will happen ), selling millions of album on it's first day of released, wow Yoongi! We are very proud of you baby!! Stay healthy, happy , we armys will wait for you and the rest of your brothers we'll be here when you come back in 2025! BTS WILL BE MORE POWERFUL AND MORE STRONGER , we will griw old with you guys! Borahae💜

Yoongi: "It’s part of the treatment to bring back bad memories from your past and learn to control those memories. while finishing up this album, i also thought a bit about why i was making this album. and i even if i try, i cant change the past. and you need to forgive yourself. and for the past that's bothered me, i needed to forgive myself. and that's why the title is d-day. it was a time for me to be able to organize my past and what made me who I am now. In a way, we're responsible for all our own wounds and scars. No one can dodge the first arrow of trouble, of course, but when that second arrow flies at you, you've chosen to just stand there and get hit, rather than learn from the first time.”

This is the last part of the trilogy. Both his parents are alive. His mother had heart issues when she was pregnant with Suga and he could hear her heart. His dad did have cancer and recovered. Suga had the accident when he was a trainee and was afraid he would be let go so he hid it. When he is sitting on the floor he is eating Almonds. During in the soop 2 RM started reading the book Almond and so did Suga. When he is on the couch he was taking pills - that was after the accident. The scar on his face started with Daechwita. Suga said the scars come from past memories. If you get the chance the D-Day documentary is on Disney plus and it is amazing.

amygdala is the part of the brain that deals with traumatic experiences, helps control our fear response, can signal danger in response to our most fleeting perception or fractional memory of a prior trauma by giving us an emotional jolt that scarred version on himself, the hurt part of him that he locked up inside his own mind to endure all the pain he went through and to deal with the trauma - that version became the agust d persona that was the one taking hits, the i-dont-care character that can take it all and shrug it off with a smirk. we were always taking the scarred king/boss as an evil side that deserved the punishment, but in reality they were those who needed to be saved the most

The Amygdala is a part of the human brain and is the size of an almond. It stores the memories for our fight or flight response. This video is staged in YOONGIs amygdala - filled with those memories that have plaqued him and are represented by the scar in Daechwita and Haegum. On the last day of his D-Day tour he literally walked through that door after his encore performance of The Last - telling ARMY he is ok and ready to go through his next chapter - enlistment in the Korean Army 😭💜

One of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs and MVs. Exactly shows how being trapped in memories feels. He shares his very real pain with us and using a rock tract is perfect. He sobbed through the song in his last tour performance it was especially emotional to see. But he had at only the final show he walks through the Amagydala closed door triumphant finally.

It’s less about the connections and more about him sharing more of himself and really dealing with things that have happened in his life that had a traumatizing effect.

Amygdala is the last of a trio of videos. Joel was actually right in that the Suga in Amygdala eventually became the thief, but that happened in the second video of the trilogy. The first one is Daechwita, from his second mix tape. On his first mix tape, he mentions things like, "born to be a tiger" and in one song he says that Min Yoongi is dead, he killed him. In his MV for the song Agust D, he talks about the rise of BTS, becoming global stars. The Yoongi in the Agust D and Give It To Me videos are both blonde. Yoongi has also spoken before of his greed and ambition and how it became a leash and choked him. That's all background to the first video, Daechwita. In that video, blonde Yoongi from the first mix tape has become king, but he's a cruel tyrant. Black-haired Yoongi stages a coup and kills the mad king. Black-haired Yoongi is a boss and by the 2nd video in the trilogy, he has become a mob boss. In Haegum, ordinary Yoongi, not a king or a boss, takes down the mob boss. He also burns the money, showing that the greed that once ruled him is no longer a part of him. This newest Yoongi also does not have a scar on his face. Amygdala is going back to his past and his memories. The amygdala ties together the things that you read about it. What it actually does is use the memories of past trauma to recognize developing situations that could lead to additional trauma, so that you can avoid it the next time. In that way, the amygdala can literally save you. In talking about cutting the scar on his own face, Yoongi said that he believes that we cut scars into ourselves, by how we chose to deal with situations and he was trying to show that in the MV. Basically a physical representation of the scars from trauma. The accident, his mother's heart condition, and his father's cancer diagnosis are all true. He didn't lose his parents, but they were both very sick at one time. The Yoongi trapped in the room with the couch is suffering from depression and the effects of his trauma. His other self, possibly a physical representation of the amygdala tries to save him from those things, but he isn't successful. That failure leads to Yoongi "killing" himself and becoming what is eventually the mad king. The last Yoongi, the one in Haegum without a scar, breaks the cycle so there will not be another greedy, power-hungry Yoongi that will need to be killed. Yoongi is literally tying together all three mix tapes/albums and all of the MVs from them to tell his story. The story of his own life. Joel might have been mostly on the wrong track, but he was quite right about how deep the songs and MVs are. He actually took one more step to complete all of this imagery of killing off aspects of your personality, dealing with trauma, and healing from the past,. At the very last show of his tour, a day or two before he began the process of his military enlistment, he ended the show, and the tour, by walking through a white door, like the one he couldn't reach in Amygdala. He walked through the door, turned and closed it. Closing the door on his past trauma, closing the door on the past Yoongi that struggled so much, and closing the door on the first chapter of BTS. ARMY says that RM writes songs with his mind, J-Hope writes with his heart and Suga writes with his soul. His MV trilogy, mix tape trilogy, and the way he ended the last show are all examples of Suga doing just that. Sorry for the long post, but it's kind of difficult to explain all of this in a short post.

Yoongi´s trilogy ( Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala) are not linked necessarily linearly. Amygdala that was released as the last piece of the trilogy just explains what transpired in the past to real Min Yoongi that led to creation of alter egos in his mind portrayed symbolically in story telling behind Daechwita and Haegeum ( and with that the scar). In Daechwita, both characters have the scar, in Haegeum only one of them has the scar. In Amygdala none has the scar, the scar is only remembered in dream world. He is pretty impressive isn´t he. Psychological universes he creates in order to channel his trauma and bad experiences of the past through music are his own but we all can relate, they are scarily tangible. Thats why so many people keep this guy as their " therapist" and a healer. I know I do. When you mentioned he may end up as a heavy metalist I had to chuckle. You are not the first reactor who noticed and pointed that out. If you want to see some real dynamite performances you need to watch some of his lives. Have fun with it and thanks !

You guys know The Tick? Started as a comic, then animated, then was live action, then live action again, but darker. World where it's a fad to be a superhero. There's a fantastic four spoof - "the Civic-minded five" with Carpeted Man (power of static electricity), Feral Boy (he's just feral), Four Legged Man (he just has 4 legs) Captain Mucilage (glue guns. Battle cry: "Let's get sticky!" ), and Jungle Janet (Tarzanesque). The Tick's friends are The Moth aka Arthur (mechanical wings), Die Fledermaus (in bat costume), Sewer Urchin (has rain man voice and finds beautiful pies in the sewer), The Chameleon (as expected, but can be defeated if backgrounds change too fast for him to adapt to), and American Maid (the only character who can legit fight). The Tick is "nigh invulnerable" and has amnesia, so there's no explanation why he has antennae and super strength. He's a good hearted idiot whose battle cry is "Spoon!". It was hilarious. In the comic, they are beset by incompetent ninja who disguised themselves as a hedge by holding twigs. Ah, the 90s were some good years for animation. Invader Zim was also a gem. My lame super power: If someone is a jerk, I can make them obsessed with shellfish. The effects will last the span of a bad cold, and during that time they feel happy only while talking about crabs - so that's all they do - no matter who they are talking to. The condition can reoccur at random times throughout their lives. Name: Crustacean Girl.

The trilogy goes DAECHWITA, HAEGEUM, AMYGDALA. These are about overcoming barriers/ injustices in the same order proffessional, societal, and AMYGDALA personal. Amygdala was hard for Suga to make. When he talked about the process it sounded like he was reliving the trauma but it was in the end cathartic and healing. But...in the video he never gets out of that room.

Imho, Amygdala tell us the reason of Agust D "birth" (and how to heal all of those traumas). In Daewchita amd Haegeum he is "killing" his "bad" parts, the greedy king, the materialistic chief... if you noticed, in Daewchita both have the scar (anger), in Haegeum only the corrupt detective had it. Ah! He finished his tour crossing the door (the stage was the amydala!). He's a creative genius 💜💜💜💜

The MVs came out in order of: Daechwita, Haegeum, then Amygdala. Think of Amygdala as being like a prequel to the other two (also the way the story connects all 3 MVs). He gives himself his scar (trauma) and then sends off versions of himself to destroy past selves (personas, darker pasts). So in Daechwita, the young thug already has a scar, same with the mad king. In Haegeum the Mafia boss had a healed scar (meaning later in Sugas life) and the young self who shoots him has healed completely, or has no scar.

If you watch the final day of Suga's D day world tour which he recently completed you will see him leave the stage through that same door. He felt trapped by his physical and emotional traumas, he was in physical pain for years. When he was a trainee at Big Hit he had no financial support so although they were not allowed to do that sort of work he took a job as a delivery driver. He had an accident and his shoulder was damaged, he was scared that he would be dropped by Big Hit if he said what had happened so he said he had fallen downstairs and his shoulder went untreated. Because of the damage he had to take painkillers to train and perform, and that went on for years. Eventually his shoulder seized up and he said what had happened , possibly 2019 or 20. Then he had surgery and was off the team for several months recuperating and physio etc. It appears to me that he is now much more outgoing than the Suga he presented as before, but that is hardly surprising if he had been in constant pain. I think you will find that Army mostly stays with you to the end of your reactions. I guess we are a strange lot.

Yoongi also is well now but this MV showed so many things we know but in delicate and tasetful way about him that it was hard to watch if you knew his history closer.... There is s lot to unbox here, you were close if you fliped your theory. So I will give simple run down It is oposite like Agust D persons in Haegum and Deachwita are created to make it easier for trauma - amygdala is place that deals with it - the people in MV are show with scars bc they show hurt person with all this things that happened to them physicaly and mentaly, bc he is literally and metaphoricly hurt and the cut means to shows it. In Deachwita person with cut is replased with person that also has cut in teory better person, but in reality still going thro shits wich we see bc of scar, so then we see this person with cut on eye in Haegum that again isn't good but the person that shots scar Agust D is one without scar so we have person that let go and healed in the end - free person. And we know this bc we got thirt MV and that is Amygdala with shows why the scar is there and how it happened and what it means... So in theory you could look at Amygdala as a first story but we got it last.

@@crystalsnow1138 yes we don't know, of course, and it isn't really our buissnes, but I think he wouldn't talk about it in song if situations wasen't in "good place". His mom had the heart surgery 30 years ago, so you have to life with that's it and do check ups, etc. And I'm not saying this to diminish the situation, bc of course we don't know, I just honestly think he wouldn't have brought up the subject if the situation was uncertai. And they work normaly, bc people say that they see them at their buisness and Yoongi was talking about trips with them, etc. So I say it with hope that they are well as they can.

They are a trilogy. "Daechwita" then "Haegeum" then "Amygdala" as a sort of prequel to the two that ties them all together. Also... the lyrics don't say that his parents were "taken"... they are both still alive. His mother had heart surgery right after he was born which is why he later says he can hear her heart "ticking"... from the pacemaker. His father was diagnosed with Liver Cancer, but survived. The amygdala is the part of the brain that helps you process extreme emotions... such as fear/pain from trauma. He is begging his amygdala to help him heal/process his past trauma and be able to move forward.

yoongi has gone through so much shit and the fact that he stays so gentle, kind and strong inspires me to strive for a better path every day. his music truly heals, he chooses to be vulnerable and lay his bare soul through his craft and i respect that so much, especially knowing how much he values the balance between his public and private life. i treasure D-DAY sooo much, and i adore him.

Both his mother and father survived their trajedies. His mother underwent heart surgery literally 1 month after having him. His father got his diagnosis and treatment during Suga's training and debute days. The accident was the one that tore a vital part of his shoulder during his training he hid it for years. He told everyone that he fell down stairs.because he was scared if being cut. Eventually he would come clean and everyone would be supportive. He had corrective surgery in 2021. You will see some performances and appearances that he is not in or BTS is carrying his photo that is because of him recovering from the surgery. The order is **Daechwita **Haegeum **Amygdala Thanks for reacting to the guys. I enjoy your reactions. 💜🇺🇲💜

Long story short: Agust D first mixtape was filled with anger and lashing out. He had blonde hair when firing back at his haters and speaking about his mental illness problems. Daechwita = the Agust D above was like a tyrant king (blonde) just beheading haters. New Agust D came from nothing and was one with the people. Shoots the old Agust D. Both has the eye scar. Haegum = Newer Agust D now without a scar, kills the previous Agust D (with scar) who had become a dirty cop. Set everyone free. Amygdala = showed where the scars came from - he created these characters and bared his traumas as an escape. For once his versions tried to save himself rather than killing himself. Suga has since mentioned that he might retire Agust D, since he's now accepted himself fully and no longer needs this other persona as an outlet. We shall see!

The order goes Daechwita, Haegeum, then Amygdala. You should watch them again in this order, on camera or not, then you'll have a complete picture of what Agust D/Suga/Min Yoongi was trying to convey. But if you have not already watched Daechwita, please do so as a reaction. 💜💜

no amygdala is the beginning of the all explained in the last mv. he started of with all these bad memories so when he joined BTS he was eager to proof himself and he was just angry at everyone so he created agust D to have an alterego he could express his anger and resentment and he created the scar on agust D as a sign of his past. at first it was the haters and he took them down in deswitha. then the scar became more transparent but not totally gone. so he started to realise that he was still a slave to life like we all are, money and all the things he is exspected to do and not do as an idol it will still holding him prison. but once his scarless self shot the second yoongi he was free of his traumatic past and could finally walk through the while door in his amygdala and release his past trauma and start a new. he showed that in the last concert of D-day a white door was placed at the very end and he walked through it.

This is my theory In daechwita the king was killed by a guy with a scar. The king is min yoongi, his past character (fun fact 'min' is named for family who has a kings blood line) And he created a new character named agustd (a guy with a scar) his alter ego. Because all of his trauma and his anger. people was underestimated them in the past. In hageum a guy with a scar is killed by his new character. The better version of him in the present. He killed his alter ego

A tad lengthy but I think this provides a somewhat unique perspective on the song. Read till end. I think it will be interesting. When a person is an infant there is a minimum of cognitive control of function. Much of sense of being emerges from an interaction of sensory-motor behavior with the environment and limbic system processing of that interaction. The amygdala is part of that limbic system involved in attaching an emotional valancing to the infant's experiencing of the environment, hence it is involved in the rudimentary development of cognition and indeed sense of unique personhood. It is a processing system which never really goes away. It simply becomes superseded by superior systems to manage person situation interacting with his or her environment. If we traverse from this idea to Karl Jung whose ideas are central to much of BTS's works we find the idea of a Shadow repository of subconscious ideas and emotions which are elemental to our Psyche. As the person becomes more driven by a set of personas these Shadow elements tend to leak out from their normal repressed state into consciousness. This entry into consciousness creates dissonance which can impede healthy functioning if not dealt with through integrating these emotional intrusions with cognitive understandings to produce a new normal. I would reference Suga's track Shadow. So Suga cries out "my amygdala", " let's erase them, one by one", "please save me". But as the fullness of all the emotions rains on him all the hurt involved in the dissonance leads the conscious Suga to the cognitive epiphany that he must work toward that new normal to be healthy. The amygdala cannot save him. He must manage the emotions coming out of the Shadow. He races toward the doorway with the unconscious trying to share cognition with the Shadow emotions and memories (The limbic system structure amygdala is lyrically used to reflect these Shadow elements). But reality is there is no clean door into the unconscious. The unconscious only seeps out in a one-way fashion. Superior cognitive systems are needed to manage this seepage. Suga cannot do this by crossing the doorway into whatever emotional systems had developed outside his conscious existence and which may retain unhealthy aspects. So to me this song as futile as it seems actually is Suga arriving at an epiphany. It in a weird way is a return to Jung. And that is a healthy thing.

"Your amygdala is a small part of your brain, but it has a big job. It’s a major processing center for emotions. It also links your emotions to many other brain abilities, especially memories, learning and your senses. When it doesn’t work as it should, it can cause or contribute to disruptive feelings and symptoms." - he said he had to unpack all his old pain and dark memories and live back through them to face them and come out on the other side healthier. In both Daechwita and Haegeum, he is facing the darker sides of himself and trying to take control of the person he wants to be. The cut in this one represents the emotional scars we have in ourselves, often times self-inflicted, that represent the pain we carry with us. Appreciate ya'll looking into this one and the others more. EDIT: He didn't lose his parents, but had some very serious health issues at times in his life and felt some sense or guilt or fear associated with this - his mom's heart the month he was born, so later still hearing her hearbeat in his ears as a representation of the guilt he must have internalized and how his birth may have contributed to her health conditions, and going through his own accident that he kept quiet for fear of being released from the group and his dad's health and choices he has made related to returning or focusing on work or opening up to others. So much to unpackage with this one in particular for sure. Stayed until the end LOL. Yes, tell us about the stupid super powers hahahaha!

My take, as someone who is stuck in my own head and constantly relives the past, especially the darker side of the past, is that depression and anxiety can force you to develop a "split" personality. The persona I put on for others that hides my pain and fears and the real me who is always suffering and just wants to be free, in any way possible. I want desperately to be the fake me and to "kill off" the real me. It's exhausting and lonely.

You are close, technically all the parts played are parts of Suga's psyche. The order of the vids I think is daecwita then Haegum then this one then they make more sense. His parents are alive but yes that was a time for him and the accident was also real, that's how his shoulder got messed up. He kept it a secret so that just added more trauma. This trilogy is his way of dealing and expressing with his memories and how they brought him to the place he is now. Sooo deep, gotta love Yoongi 💜 not a bad reaction guys!!!
