The power of RM, one of the reasons I fell for BTS was this old school vibe...man, such a cool vibe.

One thing I really love about BTS rap line, they'll just quietly listen to you while you're insulting them and tomorrow they'll drop a new track in which they've murdered you with their lyrics.

I love your thoughts and genuine reactions to Namjoon’s solo music, it’s honestly just so pure. It’s really nice to know that somebody out here agrees with the opinion on Namjoon been an insanely talented rapper who is not just hyped up for his presence and popularity in BTS but a man who is actually so rare to find these days because of his ability to rap with this powerful demeanor and his genius lyrical abilities and whose aura is undoubtedly commanded as soon as he starts rapping. Nowadays people think because a rapper can hype up the crowd it makes them better , but from the way I see it , being able to get the crowd to actually feel your lyrics and the emotions that are been displayed throughout the rapping just holds way more weight. Namjoon has 90s rap skills with strong ass delivery, amazing rhythmic, a very interesting flow and tone, and genius wordplay and lyrical ability, that’s why he really stands out from a lot of other idol rappers.

Did you know that the big companies wanted to sign Jungkook, but he turned them down and went to Big Hit just to work with his idol RM? Jungkook is the biggest fanboy of RM and has mentioned it repeatedly over the years. Bang PD was given a demo of RM from Sleepy and went after him to be the first BTS member. He lived in the apartment alone until Suga joined him and then J Hope. They have been together for 10 years.

This is the very first time I've come across someone whose opinion and perception of RM as a true hip hop artist unrelated to bts matches my own. You've explained exactly how I felt but better given your own experience when I first discovered his individual work 2 years ago. I was watching your reaction during my break time at work and man I was so ecstatic and shocked to discover a true artist who lived and breathed hip hop attesting to RM's level of talent in context of the true essence and spirit of being an emcee or the hip hop genre! I've come across other reactions who've also agreed that RM feels like hip hop but not at the level you've done. A big fan of RM as a hip hop artist (also love bts as a whole) but I grew up listening to hip hop and I'm gonna be 38 this year and yet still missing them old school vibe when it comes to hip hop, ya know! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience as an artist! RESPECT✊🙏💜💜💜

@@DarkAngel2512 Hi! You obviously don't know me. I've been listening to K-pop since 2007 and I'm a huge Seo Taiji fan from his debut as a group to his last more experimental projects. I've even recommended ST on this channel before. For your information, ST himself picked BTS as his heirs saying "this is your generation now". He invited the group to perforn with him at his '25th concert', at a time where BTS wasn't even that globally famous. I could write an essay on why BTS revolutionized not only k-pop but global pop music: I just don't have the time.
@sammy532

@@DarkAngel2512 I strongly disagree with this. Psy didn't paved anything. As much as I love him (he's underrated as an artist), he just made it harder to be taken seriously and was a one-hit wonder. Also, tbh, no kpop act got mainstream success outside of Asia before BTS. Nobody paved the way for them as they had to build the road themselves. I already had this conversation with multiple of my OG kpop fans friends and it's always something difficult to admit for them as 2nd groups are also their favs. On a more personal note, I just think that BTS' sound, configuration and philosophy is just different.

His presence is so great, he is the one who always draws in reactors at first. He stands out. And his intelligence is a such bonus, but harder to relate because his way of thinking is so different from us regulars . Although people tend to prefer one of the other guys in BTS after knowing more about them. BTS would not have been without him and his vision. I noticed on a documentary (break the silence) that the rest of BTS really stops talking and listens to his opinion/view on certain matters. So much respect for him. Little bit funny fact: not long ago on a BTS run (game show) episode Suga gave cooking instructions to RM and Jimin, Suga (who wasn't allowed to do anything, just instruct) knows how to cook RM and Jimin don't . RM is getting excited (he tends to become like a big puppy dog, very clumsy) and I Suga telling him to turn it down a notch knowing this will not go well, so big floppy RM standing with his hands crossed was so endearing. Suga is the calm one of BTS but at the end of that episode he was flustered.

There's also a Korean wife and husband rap duo, along with a fellow rapper that formed a group called MFBTY. They are 3 solo rappers, although Tasha can also sing. Tiger JK or Drunken Tiger, Bizzy and Baby T/ Tasha/ Yoonmirae. Their soli song and groups songs are sooo good so check them out if you have time. Their video reaction will probably not get a lot of views because they aren't idols; so I'll understand if you listen to them on your own instead of making a video.

You touched on the fact that there are late 80s and 90s rap sounds. RM and Suga do listen to quite a big range of hip hop but I'd also like to mention Big Hit's in-house producer pdogg who Bang Si-Hyuk has described to have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of hip hop. He's the producer for probably 85-90% of BTS' discography (including the solo projects) and the one who taught the other members about hip hop during their trainee years. They were also mentored by Warren G about what hip hop is actually about during their reality show in 2014. Just wanted to bring that to your attention haha

The beginnings of suga and Rm are under rap so they have a more powerful and strong style when rapping while jhope became a rapper after joining big hit because he was first destined to be a vocalist and his style is lighter and more fun . He learned to rap as RM & Suga. In my opinion I like all 3 equally each in their different style and that is what makes BTS an excellent group, since it mixes different styles and as far as rap and vocalists. Let's not start judging or scoring by categorizing them to see who is better than who (school merit table type), on the contrary, we learn to appreciate their individual work that comes from their different personalities. AlsoI do not think that there is someone underestimated in BTS, I believe that there are people who tend to underestimate another, that is, it depends on the eyes of those who see them. A person with a broad mind and a heart without prejudice is not going to see people in a categorizing way. Thank you. que los astros te sean propicios.

When friends tried to get me into BTS, the first thing they showed me was Blood, Sweat, & Tears, thinking the "sexy" concept would hook me. But that was the exact wrong way to go with me and I was not impressed. I had seen enough young guys trying to be sexy that it was just 'ugh not again'. I found them again later on my own, with Not Today, and that's what got me interested (check it out if you haven't!l It wasn't until later, when I learned about the storyline in the music videos and how they dealt with the struggles of transitioning from childhood to adulthood, and that BS&T represented the first time a young person encounters temptations of adulthood and faces the things that look attractive but are actually deadly that I learned to appreciate the video and love the song. It's one of my favorites now!

Hello Monq! I found your channel thru Anitra's channel/recommendations and I am so glad I did! First of all I'd like to thank you for your ongoing BTS series! I am binge watching them as I type this lol. I truly appreciate how you break it down and provide that much needed hip hop history. I'm 43 years old and I also grew up listening to hip hop, R&B, Rock, Oldies, etc. I also consider myself a lover of music and have such a huge eclectic library of music. Growing up I had many family members who loved different types of music so I was able to love all genres of music. That love grew so much more over the years. Although I have heard songs from so many of the greats across genres of music I can honestly say that I have never gravitated toward a group like I have for BTS. Sure they are handsome men, can sing like angels and rap like devils with that spit fire and of course can dance like they got no bones, BUT that's not what drew me to them. It was their lyricism that got me then shortly after their personalities. The more you get deeper into their discography soon you will find yourself looking into their other contents like their RUN BTS series or their Bangtan Bombs lol. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me or any ARMY. My family and I are always willing to help spread the word of our boys! Since we are on the topic of RM I'm wondering if you have his collab with Kriz Kaliko on your list? If not here is the link to a lyric video. It's one of my favorite solo tracks of him and I'd love to hear your take on it. Thank you and God Bless Monq to you and yours! LINK: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZ9jhplnqKnKd3U.html

The Unpack your bags song came from this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h8qgqqeXzbXGipc.html I recommend a watch (reaction or not), for some parts I was feeling bad, but I like it a lot. He was 20 at that time, and soooo mature in his reasoning. Cheers!

Hey, while we are doing a rapline series will we also be doing rapper solos as part of bts or just their solo mixtapes?
@MONQTV

Everything including the solos. If I'm correct I think I have those on my list as well. So there is the BTS series and then a separate Rapline Series. 🕉️☮️🙏🏾❤️😁⛩️

I don't know why ARMY always force/demand that reactors to watch Blood Sweat and Tears as a intro to BTS. It is NOT Indicative of their music or style as a whole, it was literally an erotic MV about losing innocence, with an extreme theme, and a total departure for them. Even if [a reactor] digs the music/song structure, the video makes them cringe, you can see it! It's obvious in their faces! You explain it perfectly; you saw it and then watched EXO MVs instead for the next year before you gave BTS another shot. Seriously ARMY drives more people away by demanding that video right off the bat. Thankfully it's old, now, and it's slowed down, but the first year I was ARMY, all I saw was people forcing reactors to watch it for the shock value. That video is not for rookies.

Well it wasn't forced on me, it just happened to be the first video that I saw when I was introduced to Kpop in general, The first video I had every screen was a Black Pink video and then I started hitting the button to anything that KZfaq recommended and Blood Sweat and Tears just so happened to be the first one that popped up, but I do understand what your saying now that I've learned a little about BTS. 🕉️☮️🙏🏾❤️😁⛩️

lol what is this BST slander, it just depends on the tastes of the person you're showing it to. For every person who thought BST was too "out there" there's another person who actually became an ARMY because of it. You just have to cater your BTS recs to the preferences of the person you're talking to.
@Djin7Djin

@@everybodysweird I'm specifically talking about reactors, not ARMY enlistment amongst peers. I know it's a much loved video, and it should be; but it really is an unusual and extreme video for them.

@@Djin7Djin again like @everybodysweird said, that's all very case by case basis. some reactors may not connect with blood sweat and tears, but i've seen just as many get into bts because of it. It all depends on what the reactor is drawn to. If its Hip Hop like MONQ of course the chances of it resonating are slim but that doesn't mean the song is less "bts" than their other tracks
