Personally, I hate it when people call BTS a 'boyband' because of the connotations that label holds. BTS are very sincere artists: they are singers, rappers, dancers, songwriters and producers with an artistic vision and a great urge to create art and perform on stage. There are very good reasons why they are on their way of becoming the number one musical act in the world, and those reasons are certainly worth discovering.

Just wanted to explain that BTS were/still are the underdogs of the Korean idol industry. They were mistreated for YEARs. Cut out of broadcasts, not given a change room or rehearsal room, told to stand-by for performances only to be shunted at the last moment so they had to perform during the clean up, just because they didn't want to disappoint some fans. They lived in a 486 sqft 1 bedroom apartment for years. And on top of all that, they got hate, tons of hate from fans of other performers, as well as their former peers in the Korean hip-hop world. So since their first album, they've done a "cypher" series where basically they get to air some of those grievances and respond to some of their haters. This song, mic drop, was after they had proved BEYOND A DOUBT that they had surpassed any expectations anyone ever had for them. It was their final "goodbye" to their haters. And actually was inspired by Obama's speech, where he ended with a mic drop. BTS really are musicians and artists. Not your typical boy band. All 7 members are members of the Korean Music Copyright association. RM, their "spokesperson/leader" has over 122 songs to his name. They all participate in the composition, lyric writing, and production of their songs. Some members maybe a bit more than others, because they came from a music writing/composing background, but even the ones who come from a dance back-ground have become quite the songwriters. Nah, they don't brag that much, they're usually super humble. Mic Drop was kind of a finale to their cyphers to the haters, that's why they're rightfully cocky and bragg-y after all the years they were treated like crap by most people.

They don't typically do a bunch of bragging or distracts, this just happens to be one because they were told a lot by the Korean music industry that they'd never make it because they came from a very small almost broke company. They started winning awards but they had a bunch of people claiming it must have been given out of charity or it must have been a mistake. So this a response to all of that. Tickets to their concerts are extremely difficult to get. Every stadium they have played at, here in the US, sells out in minutes!!! Pretty amazing considering that they are singing in Korean! And it is like that in every country they go to. 💜❣️💜

BTS are known for helping their ARMY get through hard times with their lyrics. This was one if their diss tracks against some of their many haters but you should really check out some of their songs that have really powerful meanings. I recommend Love Myself, Magic Shop, Wings, 2! 3!, and Tomorrow just to name of few. Please watch the color coded lyrics for all of these if you do any of them! The cool part is they got the idea to write and call it mic drop from when Obama drop the mic when he finished his speech. In Korea there were 3 big labels and BTS came from a small new label and they had a lot of haters who thought they wouldn’t make it so they decided to write this song to basically respond back. Plus they write and produce their own stuff, of course with company help. Yea in Korea to be in a group you have to be good at singing, rapping, and dancing that’s why they trained before they debuted

BTS is one of the most humblest artists out there, if you knew the story behind this song you’d understand, this the one song they finally talked about their success to fire back at the Korean industry for saying they wouldn’t make it. Everyone already wrote how special BTS is. I only want to add that they really helped millions of people with their UN-speech, their love yourself concept and their donations and charity projects. I really recommend you to watch their UN speech. It's so awesome and was even printed in school books in different countries. Btw there's even a course of BTS in the UCLA and profs in harvard and other elite unis also mentioned them in their classes.

yeah these guys are 100% not like other boybands--not like a lot of other KPOP artists, either. they spend hours upon HOURS practicing until their routines are tight and coordinated. it helps that the seven of them are all but family, too. they've got an incredible interpersonal dynamic, and that's another reason so many people gravitate to and love them. give Fire and Not Today a listen next if you really liked this one. they play in the sandbox of ALL different genres but those are definitely similar in energy to this one.

This is gonna be quite long, but i hope you still read this. BTS, which stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan in romanized Hangeul, can be translated to Bulletproof Boycouts. They call themselves that because they aim to protect the youth from prejudice and problems that rain down on them like bullets. They write and produce most if not all of their music, and a good number of their songs deal with issues like changing the status quo, capitalism, loving yourself, not giving up, standing up for yourself, how it's okay not to have dreams, etc. They literally live up to their names. They also have a Unicef campaign against violence. This is why they have a huge fan base with members ranging from children to people in their 80s. I myself am a part of the older group of fans. It’s cool to review the music vid and then the dance practice video right after cuz the dance practice really shows you the difficulty of the choreo and highlights their talent.

So good right? You have to experience their live performances eventually, my current favorite is one from last year which has three songs in it “BTS’ Come Back Home + No More Dream + Mic Drop.” Their award show performances are legendary, maybe you should react to more songs they are known for before you see them? It’s okay, you can if you want. Btw, I myself don’t call them a boy band (or even k-pop), because that label is associated with past famous boy bands that don’t do what BTS does in their level. BTS write/compose/produce their music and they are filled with individual talents. They aren’t just like co-workers and live separate lives, they are humble guys who truly are brothers that love each other. They’ve started out in a tiny one bedroom apartment when they were mostly teens and cared for one another. Here another detail about BTS you may not know but the bts fans would know . In South Korea there are 3 huge rich and powerful kpop entertainment companies. Aka “ THE BIG 3”. They were SM , YG & JYP . These three dominates the Korean music industry . Bts came from big hit entertainment . A small and new company . Even though heir company been around since 2005 ( not sure if that’s the year ) . The mindset was if you didn’t came from the big 3, your at a disadvantage and get look down on . People Told bts would never make it because they had very little money and didn’t had a rich company to back them up . BTS went through many hardships and struggles with their company : almost disbanded , almost went bankrupt , etc . There would sometimes be media manipulation . The big 3 would pay korean music shows to promote and broadcast their artists more then BTS from big hit . Big hit and BTS received so much hate , bullying , mockery , insult comments . BTS had to barrow their staff members and cars to help out with being extras for music videos . That’s how bad their budget was . South Korea didn’t even respected BTS. However BTS got popular internationally. Your suppose to get big in Korea then go internationally however it was vice versa for them. They relied on social Media to get their message and fandom base to be known and grow. Mic drop is one of many diss tracks BTS created . It’s a diss towards all the haters disrespected them , mock them , taken advantage of them , mistreated like shit etc

From time to time they need these songs to show the haters how good they are doing even being criticised and underestimated so often. They worked so hard to be where they are now. I do NOT listen to any kpop or pop in general, also have never to any boy group there was (and there was the boy group age in my teens) but bts is another thing. They are so humble and talented, but also hard working! Their lyrics are so inspiring, if you are interested you could watch lyric videos to Tomorrow (is my favourite motivational song by them) or the Video to Epiphany.

Also in the beginning of their career they spent a month I think in the USA working with WAGGEN G, COOLIO. plz watch those series. They work like HELL. Spending like 15 hours a day rehearsing, eating and sleeping in the practice room. I’m a HUUUUGE DIMASH FAN but I do love and have a lot of respect for BTS too. YOU ALSO NEED TO CHECK OUT THEIR CHOREOGRAPHY PRACTICES! That’s how I got into them as K-Pop is not really my thing. But I love dancing. And then here I am. MiC DROP is an oddity. Pretty much an F-YOU to the doubters and haters. BTS is BEYOND KPop and BOYBANDS! These men are often named beside some of the most ICONIC bands in the history of music (Beatles for instance). They have done and continue to do amazing things for this world and the people in it. Despite their massive fanbase, (the ARMY) or how much money and fame they achieve, they continue to stay true to who they are. Not to mention the message they put out into the world through their music. Inspiring people of all ages, races, gender identity, EVERYBODY.. TO ALWAYS FIGHT AND TO ALWAYS REMEMBER TO LOVE YOURSELF.
