One of beautiful song and meaningful. “Spring Day” came out three years after the sinking of the Sewol ferry, a disaster in which an improperly inspected, overloaded, and unbalanced ferry capsized on an overnight journey. The ship had been loaded with twice the legal limit of cargo on its decks, and the ship’s crew had lied about the boat’s total weight. 304 passengers, the majority of them high school students on the way to a sight-seeing field trip, drowned, as they had been ordered to stay in their cabins until it was too late. Only 172 passengers survived the wreck.

This one is way deep and not a single reactor has gotten it until they watch an explanation video. It literally is filled with tons of things that go over everyone's head on first listen. Plus there are things tied to Korean society such as politics and tragedy being related which Westerners simply do not know. This song holds a special place in Army's heart. Like RM mentioned in his vlog, 'if someone does not like BTS, ask them to listen Spring Day'.. coz it's very meaningful the way he wrote the first verse, chorus & his rap part just by seeing dead leaves floating in the air while missing his friends back in middle school.

As someone else has already commented, Spring Day is unofficially about the Sewol Ferry Disaster. A ferry filled with people, mainly school children, sunk on it's way to Jeju Island, and 306 people (including rescue divers and emergency workers) died, with 5 missing to this day. You can see the visuals and representations all over the MV. The clothes and recurring shoes represent those of lost loved ones that would wash up on shore for days and weeks after. Jimin sitting in front of the ocean represents the loved ones of those who were lost that would stand on the seaside for days and weeks after just hoping for their loved ones to return. Jin in the washing machine represents a porthole on the ship. The train theme also has to do with the Sewol tragedy. Basically, the train represents the lost loved ones. V shows up at a train track, waiting for the train, but it never comes. This may be a far cry, but JK with the swing set/carousel also represents the time and memories he has with his lost friends, hence why the swing set is old and rusted, yet he is fine, and when the members show up they are blurred, to visually represent that it is memories. That's why he looks sad at first until they show up, because he's remembering the good times with them. Also, not all the time in videos will the member singing or rapping be the one on screen. Just to clear up your confusion over the JK/V thing.

This song is so deep and so many symbolics where they cant speak straight to the issue during that period of time. Highly recommend you to watch MV Explained. Longer version from Italian Girl or a shorter version about Sewol Ferry Tragedy(400 Korean students were killed in 2014), Omela(the book) and Snowpiercer (the movie). This is literally why Spring Day is called QUEEN and BTS still sing this song all the time to reflect any bad situation but hope is always there and Spring will come again.

Grief and loss are the emotions being potrayed. Loss of a loved ones, loss of innocence and loss of childhood 💔 😢. You have no idea tbe depths of sadness until you see the Sewol Ferry explanation video. Look up Italian Army Spring Day for a complete analysis. It is a heart breaking tragedy. Anyone who spoke up about the corruption in handling this ferry sinking which killed 275 students and 75 staff was censored, fired, even arrested. There were riots, the president of Korea was arrested for her part in the tragedy. BTS was vague, at first, but later admitted the meaning. The song is an anthem now in Korea.

There are two explanation videos for this MV. One of them goes into detail about the symbology in this video. The other one goes into more detail about the actual tragedy, what happened, and why. The 2nd one is by Italian Army and is truly hearbreaking. She includes actual footage from the sinking of the ferry, including the reactions of some of the parents. The song can be interpreted in different ways, but the video is about the sinking of the Sewol ferry.

This is such an important song, covering one of the most tragic events in modern day Korea. As you know by now it was the Suez ferry accident where around 300 students and teachers died unnecessarily. The whole story is devastating. You need 2 videos, the explanation video by the Italian Army explains all the government mistakes best but the other explanation video explains the what the song and video is about the best so you need both. It is soul crushing be warned but it also shows how brave BTS is/was to address this injustice is such a powerful and poetic way. 💜

This is the epitome of what grief looks like to me. It perfectly embody my heart's content. I found BTS right when I needed them...after my hubby passed away. I will never forget how this song hit me with a rollercoaster of emotion and for a long time, i cannot not cry while hearing/watching this. Spring Day will forever have a special place in my heart...and that's from a personal perspective. Suga's part wrote the lyrics to his former best friend who got lost in the way got addicted to drugs and went to prison. Suga really tried to get him back on the right track but as the lyrics say " I'll just erase you cuz it less hurt than to blame you"

Btw the song was written by Suga and RM about them missing friends now that they were becoming bigger as a band, and how times were changing. But the video was dedicated to a horrible accident on an ferry that killed multiple children … so so sad. They also sang this live (even though the song is from so long ago) to comfort ARMY when COVID lockdowns happened to tell us the bad times will end and spring will come again. 💜
