V was the secret weapon to make the people more curious. They hid him until their official debut so basically V was there but he was never seen on camera not until debut. His story was heartbreaking when he revealed that in all the logs he was there beside the trashcan. But he can never be seen on camera. He tried to log himself but never aired.

Ah, the history of V joining the group. Mr. Bang hid him. When they did their first group online together. V was there off camera. Mr. Bang was afraid another company would steal V!!! It was hard on V because he trained with them, but no one knew he was in the group.

If you look in the back sofa when all 6 members were doing live vlogs, V was hiding back there. He was a secret member that was not exposed until they debuted. They kept V a secret since they did not want any other entertainment companies to snatch him up. They knew that he had the looks and charisma that others industries may be interested in.

Angie, actually V still didn't know why they kept him a secret but Bang Si-Hyuk on a recent Rolling Stone interview ( May 2021) shared " We needed momentum to announce that the team called BTS was finally complete. V had great charms in terms of appearance and personality, so I thought it would be impactful when he was revealed last. It was an effective startegy in forming the team's overall image, as well as leaving an impression of each member."

*The docuseries did a good job conveying what is the norm in the kpop industry (the toxic aspects) and then highlighting how BTS diverges from all of it. BTS had a lot of freedom to do whatever they wanted and convey whatever message they wanted, meanwhile other musical labels would force strict control upon their trainees/idols. BTS still worked really hard but it was more of a self-driven process to compete with the industry but not with each other. It's also unique that BigHit was tiny and basically had no trainees besides BTS, unlike other labels with 100s of trainees and everyone essentially fought for a spot to debut. The culture was very different. Think of BigHit as a tiny unicorn startup and they did everything their own way.* This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and followed BTS since pre-debut. She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. They remind her every day why life is worth trudging through & that she can make change as. young person in todays world. This docu-series is her way of thanking them. (She shared all this on a video on her Instagram page) *Cr: drbon & F Y*

Thanks for crediting my comments (Haha) I follow Aneesa's instagram as well as watched her livestreams answering viewer questions. She' shared a lot of interesting info. regarding making this docu-series. I will delete my repeated comments I just posted :) By the time Aneesa finishes this series, it would have been four years of her Blood, Sweat and Tears for her! She still does all the editing herself and reviews all this material. She finally has help from volunteer translators and her roommate helps coordinate those volunteers! Interesting fact that Anessa had shared: She was actually in line for BTS 1st free concert at LA's Troubadour during their American Hustle reality show. She was 207th in line and they only let 200 people in! She said they really didn't need to handout flyers because it was posted on their social media account so there were many early ARMYs in line! I guess Big Hit wanted the guys to learn what it felt like to really have to hussle on the streets!

You're really acting like the u.s. music industry is any different than the kpop industry. The music industry in general is full of toxic bullshit like kesha still having to work with her rapist because she got denied in court to break her contract with sony, or jung joon yung taping himself having sex with women without telling them and sharing those videos with other people in kpop (currently in jail for raping women btw). Dedication and a strong mind don't help with those things. that also doesn't help when an idol gets depressed and are told by licensed therapist that they're making it up and should just take a walk and vitamin d. they aren't talking about the hardships of training when they mention toxic side of kpop It's the things that are ignored by the glossy facade of kpop Some other examples: britney spears being put into a conservatorship and unconstitutionally being denied council when the judge ruled on it. amanda bynes also illegal conservatorship. An obnoxious amount of illegal conservatorships in California. Generally any deal that has to deal with owning the masters for music like taylor swifts which was record an album get on old album you know a fun loop of never being able to own all her albums. Prince's deal included his name which is why he had to go by the artist formally known as prince. John lennon getting shot by a fan on the walk home. Christina grimmie getting shot at her concert. Hara's ex breaking into her home beating her followed by him threatening to release a sex tape she did not consent to ever. Her taking him to court over it and the judge forcing her to let him confirm it. then she attempted suicide, the ex got charged for threatening her with the tape, not filming it without her consent for some reason. Then the last year of her life was the korean public harassing her for getting sexually assaulted. Her best friend sulli of f(x) committing suicide because she was being harassed daily for literally everything, like daring not to wear a bra one day and freaking out on a live stream when someone jumped at her. Jung Joon yung and literally everything he did, look that up if you want. cnblue's jonghyun getting arrested for drugging gangraping someone (if feel like the drugging and rape happens more often in the west, because drugs are more accessible)

when you watched jimin's log and he talking about every members except V, it's bc the vlog was on March and V is still hidden. they're doing vlogs and released songs to promote BTS before debut but just as 6. everyone know BTS will debut as 6. V wasn't the last to join, but he was the last to introduce to public. they used V as hidden member, the company said it's bc he is their secret weapon. he was introduced on their trailer video. when he introduced to the public, some didn't like it bc they already love BTS as 6, but still many loves him and asking about him. he popular right away!

I hit this series at part 6, and that was Feb or March 2020; it's actually not been out all that long. It's been getting more views as we spread the word- I can remember when part 1 didn't have even 50k views and now it's over 350k. 😊 I frequently recommend it to new ARMYs (ahem) but not until they've settled in a bit and got a good grasp on 'present day' Bangtan, partly because it is such a time investment, and partly because that's when people really start wanting to know the boys' history. I particularly like to recommend it to the folks who say, 'I wish I'd gotten into them sooner!' You can't, not exactly, but you can feel what it must have been like to be on this journey with them. I always warn people that tissues are a handy thing to keep nearby, because you'll laugh till you cry, and then you'll probably cry.

Just because it is practiced in different areas doesn't mean it's okay. I am a psychology student and I can confidently say that it is not the right way of doing things. Actually those who go through it and succeed have the better side of it. We have to also think about how much it effects the ones who got through it but didn't make it in the end. Working hard is good and all... but there is a limit to everything. A life that is only work work work is not a healthy life. You need to have your free time, your social life as well to sustain your mental health.

J-hope's mask looks dope I agree but the story behind is kinda dark and upsetting. Hoseok had to wear a mask in 2013 because the company as well as many people on the internet were saying that he is ugly and has to cover his face. J-hope was always criticized and hated because of his looks in bts's early days.

It's a hidden track and that question is the exact prompt of the song. It also kind of recounts their journeys up until that point, a little like Hip Hip Lover and Sea (the song that plays at 18:45, which is another hidden track off of LY: Her that you should also listen to when you get the time!) Also, Path just sounds absolutely amazing and even includes Namjoon singing a bit!

Just wanted to let you know, these companies hold auditions globally, so there are idols from everywhere from the US, AUS, Philippines, Japan etc. They aren't always treated well historically and thats what I respect Hybe for, treating artists well and trying to change the short roll over with no future that other companies have done in the past. They would make groups, have kids drop out of HS etc. and then they dont have the guarantee of debut and they will also replace groups in a few years with little to no back up plan for most of them. Here in Korea, its very hard to find a good job without college, so imagine the prospects for female idols who hadn't left HS who couldnt transition into other forms of entertainment successfully.

I heard from a Korean vlogger. If someone says they want to be an idol, many of their family or friends... warn against choosing that job. Because they really understand the news of distress, the struggle, and the risks of being an idol. Because even when they are successful, there will be many attacks from the media or haters with evil words and things that are not true. And the news of an idol's suicide because "they" can't accept the treatment of haters, that's a scary thing. And in my opinion why do people hate idols who have worked so hard to build their careers. Haters are the worst kind of people. That's why many people in Korea worry when someone they know wants to be an idol. And i wish BTS getting stronger n stronger day by day. And whoever want to be an idol stay strong whatever the reason.

It's funny when you talked about overplayed songs. I remember when U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' came out (yes, I'm that old), and it was every second or third song played on the local station - and I was absolutely sick of it. One day a guy rang the station and said "If they still haven't found what their looking for, can they go look for it somewhere else? 'Cause he was sick of hearing about it". And I just thought"Yes! I'm not the only one who's sick to death of it". It was so long ago, but I still remember it.

Oh, boy, this is going to be a long comment! Sorry in advance! 3:50 A lot of Gangnam style's meaning and cultural commentary was lost due to many people not bothering to look up the lyrics and because of the MV being funny (which is actually a satyre). The song is actually quite political as it is actually a critique on wealth, class and materialism, which is perfectly represented in Gangnam. Korean-American consultant Adrian Hong elaborated on the issue, remarking, "Koreans have been kind of caught up in this spending to look wealthy (a/n: Which BTS also critique in Spinebreaker and Baepsae) , and Gangnam has really been the leading edge of that. I think a lot of what [PSY] is pointing out is how silly that is. The whole video is about him thinking he's a hotshot but then realizing he's just, you know, at a children's playground, or thinking he's playing polo or something and realizes he's on a merry-go-round." 5:39 It's funny because Seo Taiji has stated that BTS are their spiritual successors. Which speaks volumes of BTS' influence and cultural importance. 19:07 For BTS, their training period was most likely less painful (not easier, just much healthier) than other companies' groups and there's a huge reason for that. BigHit's trainee system is (or at least was) quite different to other companies' systems. Usually, in big companies like Big Hit, SM, JYP, and YG will pay all the investment costs for the trainees but this is a loan of sorts and idols can only make money after paying off their debts, which is training costs that the company advanced for them during the training period (classes, accommodation, schooling, etc). This puts trainees in debt, essentially. With Big Hit Entertainment it was revealed that the average cost they have to spend annually for a trainee is 120 million won and this fee is fully covered by the company, trainees don’t need to pay this back, and they can start making money as soon as they debut. Not only that, when a group’s debut lineup is confirmed in BigHit, the selected trainees will have to live together in the dorm for a period of time before their official debut. During this time, the company will pay for the trainees’ accommodations in full. And, contrary to other companies where each trainee has a rigid schedule, in HYBE (Previously BigHit) they are asked to self-monitor and evaluate each other for 3 to 6 months. Like it's said in the documentary, they get to decide what they want to spend their time on and which classes to join, they are not forced to attend but on the other side, they are expected to actually put in the work. The content of the assessment includes deciding who will be the most suitable leader, and the members want to improve which aspect of themselves and also deciding their own role in the group. In addition, Bang Shi Hyuk also confirmed that Big Hit’s training program costs more time and money than any other company. That’s because Big Hit not only teaches the trainees the necessary skills to become a singer but also prepares the trainees for their social life, taking care of their mental and physical health. The company even organizes a 1: 1 mentorship program for them. Bang PD affirmed: “We are not an official educational institution, but we are trying our best as a member of society.” Big Hit’s trainee development team added, “We also do the project ‘Listening to the music as part of our training program because some trainees can’t determine what kind of music they really love (not just the genre they have to sing).“ Big Hit also does not require their trainees to take acting classes like other big companies. Besides, while the majority of current entertainment companies have changed policies regarding exclusive contracts and more respect for artists’ decisions, Big Hit is said to have applied it right from the start. Big Hit had a lot less experience in managing idol groups when BTS debuted than many other companies. When RM joined Big Hit, they didn’t have a proper training system and Bang PD didn't really know what to do with it. They had producers, they had vocal coaches, and they had choreographers but they didn’t have a system or a way to decide who was the best fit for BTS. Even though now Big Hit has a training system it’s still not like the other companies. Like on Boss in the Mirror where ITZY even training to walk properly like a model and have good posture. Or when some big companies even train their trainee in acting, variety shows and other sorts of training. I'm quite surprised that BihHit's training doesn't include those classes in their system. Heeseung from ENHYPEN talked about this in a Vlive, he said that they only train for rap, vocal and dance and extra lessons like MIDI lesson for producing, which Yeonjun mentioned in a radio show and songwriting lesson that Heeseung said pdogg (BH’s in house producer) guided the trainees himself. So trainees work with actual producers and in-house workers to polish their skills (and even after their debut) if they wish to work on those skills, but they're completely optional and not a forced requirement. I actually think Bighit focuses more on training the idols on the performance and music production compared to Big 3 where they focus on entertainment and performance (variety, mc-ing etc.). So their training system might be advanced now too but in a different way. I do not agree with everything the company does (more so recently) but I have to admit they are the company with the best practices I've read about and as long as they treat their artists well and with dignity, I can't say much to be honest. BTS love their company and that's that! 20:13 I really do not like how there is this huge "The Dark Side of K-pop" trend going on, it is even mentioned in the video! While I do agree that some of the practices that are perpetuated within the K-pop industry (such as the debts), I think that western folk often choose to demonise is as something unique to the Korean pop industry all the while forgetting that the west has some industries that work in a near identical manner. Ballet, sports (American football, swimming, gymnastics, amongst a few others), classical music, all these industries find kids (sometimes at an even younger age than most entertainment companies) and work them, train them and produce them for a profit in a near identical manner; and yet you never see people go to the lengths you see them go in pro of criticising K-pop, which seems incredibly xenophobic to me (not you! Mainly people who are shown these parallelisms and still choose to ignore these similarities and keep demonising kpop). In the end, all of these industries have many issues regarding how they treat the people they produce but they are not inherently bad. BTS was incredibly lucky in that they found a company that does not go to the lengths some of the other companies did and still do. They didn’t need to be on strict diets or reach a weight quota, they weren’t forced to practice x amount of hours or have compulsory lessons (like I said, Bang PD has spoken that he didn’t believe in that system and instead encouraged the trainees to train at their own pace and on their own, gave them artistic freedom regarding their music, it was up to them), they had many more liberties than other trainees had. Amongst other things, they are a clear example of how the industry can be a positive outlet and conduct for young talent.

Just - that vlog from JK after his middle school graduation, it's 11.30 PM, he graduated, then went to dance practice as usual, then came home to vlog like there was nothing special about the day. No wonder he was feeling and looking a bit down. That, and the "birthday prank" when he got reprimanded, really make my heart ache for him.

It surprised me to hear RM say that he tried to quit because of dance. Could you imagine BTS without the leader. Tae/V was always there. He was signed before Jimin. But BigHit decided to keep him secret and reveal him at debut. They were also worried that other agencies would try to steal him. So they protected him and excitement was high when he finally was seen. The creator of this series has graduated for film. She does this as a hobby and out of her love for BTS and fellow ARMYs. There is 19 chapters now, not including the Bonus videos and the Deleted scenes videos. (There is 1 of each for each chapter) enjoy 😉 💜

18:10 yup that was RM, he has a history of being ignorant (for cultural appropriation) and he received quite a lot of backlash when he was younger. I am glad he is a changed man now, you will see a lot of braids and blaccent during his early days

26:42 not really dope. I mean it looks cool but they did this bacause they wanted to hide his face. People called him horse and ugly back then. Also that he's untalented and that's why he should leave the group. He had not received any fan letters for a long time. Please give our hope lots of love cause he is the most beautiful and talented person I've seen. (all of bangtan) 30:10 V was already there. They just kept him as a surprise till debut. With that I mean that he didn't do any vlogs with them. He had to stand in the corner of the room. Sadly i can't watch you on patreon cause i'm too young to pay and my parents said no. But I wanted to tell you that in addition to every single episode, there are also behind the scenes and "funny moments". It'd be cool if you would watch this too. I think they're only around 10min long.
