Very nice. The slimmer design is great. I like my knife to almost disappear on my belt until I need it. Slim sheaths with a horizonal draw go a long way to this effect.

Just started watching your videos. Love the sheath. What do you use in the wax pot? I've used neatsfoot oil and paraffin with good results. Do you have something else in it?
@wyomingwright
@wyomingwright 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! In that pot I had beeswax and rendered filtered beef tallow (which is similar to neetsfoot oil). I have also used lanolin.

A little tip. When I use edge Kote or any other edge paint, I apply it with a #2 pencil. I also have the professional roll on tool but honestly, the pencil works fast and smooth.

I wish I had the skills to make something like this. With practice and following along I could probably get something decent after a couple tries. But good leather ain’t cheap. 😅 For now I’m fine just watching haha. Also, do you have a video where you explain why you do things along the way ? Like why the sanding on the edges, the paint? On those same edges. Why you glue as well as stitch, the dip in wax. Etc. Would be interesting for people like me whom are completely new to leather.
@wyomingwright
@wyomingwright 11 ай бұрын
I need to do that. It would be a long video and I typically dislike hearing my own voice, but I should definitely do that at some point.

P.S. I prefer this design to the one last week simply because it is thinner and the loop is part of the back piece.

Could this be adapted to a 112 automatic with a snap flap? I made something similar, but it doesnt look near that good. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yes, I’ve made several for the 112. I like to do the 112 with bottom end in the sheath rather than the pivot end.

What is the leather thickness you used for this sheath? Also, what thickness do you like for a knife like say the buck 119?
@wyomingwright
@wyomingwright 10 ай бұрын
I used about 5 oz on the front piece that is wet formed and about 8 oz on the back piece that also forms the loop. For the buck 119 it depends on the style of sheath but I’d say about 6 oz would be good off hand
@stevengrimes4473
@stevengrimes4473 Жыл бұрын
What is a good leather weight that you would recommend for this style of sheath??
@wyomingwright
@wyomingwright Жыл бұрын
4-5 oz. You can use heavier leather on the back. But it gets hard to form details around the knife when you get up to 6 oz and higher.

@@wyomingwright awesome!! I will check in again. I have a similar one that I carry appendix style and my knife just fell out of my sheath while I was lopping up a tree with a chainsaw. It fell out mid stride and I kicked my poor 110 a good 6 feet in front of me. Your design looks much more sturdy, I like the click of it locking in place!

How would you make this to go on your left side for right hand draw
@wyomingwright
@wyomingwright 4 ай бұрын
You could just put it on upside down on your left side. It would work just fine that way. It will ride slightly higher that way but only cm. If I knew I wanted to carry on the left side all the time, I would build the sheath with the blade on top in that orientation, but that’s a personal preference thing

I put it in water to wet form it. Then when it’s finished, I dip it in wax.

@@wyomingwright I had the idea it was wax but I wasn't sure. how to get the excess of? it won't form a "candle" layer on the outside?
