This live version of Buckethead's "Soothsayer "(Dedicated To Aunt Suzie) was luckily recorded in Raleigh , North Carolina at Lincoln Theater on May 13, 2016. Buckethead was probably in the best technical form of his life and his chops reflect his preparation for this tour. He was playing like he was at war and wanted to prove his place among the top-tier of the top-tier of all guitarist.
I took my two sons, Jackson & Robert and luckily got right on the front row to take pictures and record. I had a canon s100 that I got the cover photo of this video from and was told by the boys the next song was Soothsayer.
I was using a Razor Max by Android and had no idea if the video would turn out ok or if the audio would be blown-out. I handed the phone to Robert on the way home and asked him to check if the videos taken were any good. He replied "Wow, these are pristine!" I uploaded them immediately upon getting home and posted online. Musicradar.com shared along with ultimateguitar.com and it went viral soon after.
Soothsayer is the 6th track from the Buckethead album "Crime Slunk Scene" is the eighteenth studio album by Buckethead, and his fourth tour-only album. It was originally only sold on his 2006 tour, but was later made available on Travis Dickerson's record label TDRS music, until it eventually went out of print.
I had seen Buckethead years earlier at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach with Pinchface on drums. One thin was really obvious, he'd really evolved as a showman, and his chops have improved , if that's even possible. It's nobody's business "ranking" guitarist by talent or skill, because it's an unwinnable argument.
As a guitarist of 37 years, I can't think of a guitarist/artist/musician/entertainer that keeps getting better, heavier, more melodic, and advancing the art guitar wizardry like Mr. Buckethead. He's the Steph Curry of guitar right now.
Also, I never dreamed while listening to Praxis, DeathCubeK, & Bucketheadland in 1995 that 21 years later, me and my 2 teenage sons would all get to be front-row and get to tap the coveted- red-arcade kill switch on his guitar during the show! What an honor! \m/\m/ Raleigh , North Carolina 5/13/2016

Lincoln Theater, Raleigh NC USA 5/16/2016
The track "Soothsayer" (dedicated to Buckethead's late aunt) has become one of his more popular songs, and is frequently played live.[3][4] "Soothsayer" was voted third best guitar solo of the 2000s by the Ultimate Guitar community.[5] Loudwire described it as "smoothest legato shreds of all-time".[6] VH1 included it 8th on the list of "20 Greatest Heavy Metal Instrumentals".[7] The song was later included as DLC on Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock.[8] On April 27, 2017, Buckethead announced a vinyl format of this album through his label "Buckethead Pikes"; marking the first time since its inception that the label has released a non-pike album.

I’ve seen Buckethead three times with my son. All three times right up next to the stage. Every time, he hands out toys to the people in the front, and we’ve both played his kill switch. My son has all of our toys in his bedroom studio as mementos. I must say, that those concerts with my son will be something neither of us will forget.

Saw him December 2017 in LA and changed my life forever. My girlfriend and I love...absolutely love buckethead. We had a hard time....my fault....and went our separate ways. I went to bucketheads show by myself a few months after break up and he graced us with interworld and the new innocence and animal behavior. I completely lost it. Broke down in tears mid show. During intermission I was having a smoke and a guy saw the look on my face and asked me what could possibly be wrong. We talked for a bit and it was at that moment I realized I had made the biggest mistake of my life leaving my girlfriend. 2 days later I reached out to her. Needless to say almost 2 years later we are stronger than ever and I will be asking her to marry me. So yes buckethead affects so many people in such a positive way. I hope he knows what he means to us....his fans. Really liked your comment and felt like replying. Best wishes to you and your son and your family

I "discovered" Buckethead this year (2023) at 60 years old, and no matter how many times I watch this video and others, I'm amazed every time by his technical abilities and his talent as an overall musician. I grew up around a lot of amazing professional musicians/guitarists, and I can only hope that I get the chance to see him live soon, as I would happily pay for front row no matter the cost if I had the money!!! Hey Mr. B, how about an invite to your next show. I'm a retired Professional Chef with 30+ years of experience and will provide you some awesome things for you to enjoy during the event and afterwards. Like Mom told me, it never hurts to ask. ;)

Seriously, like 20 albums of just songs from him messing around that arent EP/LP's. If you want an emotional rollercoaster of pure beauty, listen to the album Colma. Buckethead is probably my favorite guitarist to ever exist.

Ozzy was very foolish to demand Buckethead to remove his bucket and mask to be able to play in his band. When Buckethead shows up for an interview, you let him wear whatever the hell he wants to. That mask and bucket adds epic mystique and imagery. Even when you know who he is. Dumb, dumb, dumb. If Buckethead shows up to your bands audition, make no demands. This is genius of a nearly unmeasurable scale. You don't put demands on such people.

The most ridiculous thing Ozzy ever did. In the context of Ozzy’s persona and image buckethead would have been the perfect foil - Ozzy Osbourne with Michael Myers on guitar - the ultimate rock(y) horror show! The problem for Ozzy has always been insecurity- I’m sure Sharon wouldn’t have tolerated someone else stealing the limelight from her husband. Such a shame but the experiences of Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake and Jake E Lee bear this out .

He’s certainly a masterful player but there are many guitarists in different genres as facile, who also make beautiful music (many with short fingers). That said, there is some serious mental disturbance manifest here: to hide behind a ridiculous Michael Myer’s Halloween mask and wear a KFC chicken bucket on your head for your entire career.
@tomford2218

I was turned on to this guy only a few days ago after a young guy begged me to watch him. At first, as an old school guy, I said I don't want to watch a dude with a chicken bucket on his head. After all, I come from the generation of Randy Rhodes, Slash and others. But, he convinced me to listen and I've been kicking myself ever since for not listening sooner. This guy is the BEST electric guitar player I've ever heard or heard...period. And I think I've heard them all, all the way back to the seventies. Page, Rhodes, Slash, Beck, Dokken...etc. I've never seen someone so precise on the hard stuff. For those that don't play, using the index finger is the easiest. The pinky is the hardest. He seems to use them all without bias. It's absolutely incredible to me that his pinky is as profound as his index finger in playing. Not only that, it is as precise...no mistakes in tone or mutation. Almost inhuman. Perhaps that is why he wears the mask. He plays like a robot when it comes to precision, but he also puts the very human art of variance and nuance that robots can't do. Simply incredible.
