Hello everyone in the comments. I am the operator who was in the tractor. I wanted to address a concern or two of my own, as well as a few comments I’ve read. As you no doubt noticed, we are putting it on pretty heavy. Unfortunately, it’s necessary to do so. By the time we pull out, and head to the next job, we’ll have pumped about 45 million gallons of manure. To be clear, we aren’t putting on any more than the farmer is comfortable with; if the farmer tells us to lighten it up, we do it, of course. Also, out of all our customers, these are the only farmers that we need to applicate so heavily. And thanks to the bazooka farmstar toolbar, also known as the Titan bar, we can lay down heavy manure with minimal disturbance to the land. You’d be amazed at how well the ground looks after even just a day. A few of our customers are actually no till guys, and they’re always satisfied with the Titan’s performance. I’m not a guy who’s really a super fan of any particular brand, but I have to say bazooka farmstar makes a good product, and if you’re in the market for an injecting toolbar like this one, you ought to give them a chance. Anyway, I also saw a comment wondering why we weren’t running the duals, and the short answer is, no traction. A forty acre pull was nearly impossible. We considered many different options, and tried a few of them, including partially filling the tires with beet juice to increase weight. It didn’t work. We also considered trying different tires sizes, but in the end, we simply removed the duals, and traction was no longer an issue. As an added plus, removing the duals also made it substantially easier to drive on the roads while moving between fields, or jobs. I think that’s all I got. If you have any more questions, I’ll do what I can to answer them. Cheers, guys.

B1rds3y3 I am sure their is a reason but why didn’t you just apply from the point of the field across the end row/headland to get to the unapplied area?
@B1RDSEYE4 жыл бұрын
Ed Timmons a number of issues, most importantly loss of traction due to added weight, and hose rolling. Loss of traction is pretty easy to figure out: we’re driving across wet, disked ground. The weight in question is the hose, and the manure in the hose. Imagine the length of the hoses across the entire field as the number 100. There’s no significance to the number it’s just a nice round number for figuring and percentages. The black hoses are supply, the green hoses are drag. As a general rule you’ll only be pulling 50% of the hoses laid out across the field. That’s on the first pass. As you do round after round you’ll eventually get to the corner. What do you do when you get there? Cut back across the field of course. Now that we’re all up to speed on the situation, I can tell you, and maybe you can tell, why what you suggested won’t work. By cutting straight across I will only be pulling about 25% of the hose across the wet, bad traction ground. Once across, the man in the hose humper tractor grabs the hose, which gets our hose laying out straight, preventing rolling. Also, you may have noticed the notch I slid into once I was out of the wet ground? That’s because we start every field at a little less than half way across it. Now, if I drove across the edge, I would be fighting the traction less ground the whole way, I would eventually be pulling 50% of the hose, once again across tractionless ground, and assuming I could even do it, now my hose has rolled ALOT. And that brings us to rolling. Rolling hose is bad. It’s not bad while your pumping necessarily, though if you put too much strain on a hose you might blow it, it’s when you shut down. Before you shut down, the hose was inflated and couldn’t adjust itself because of all the manure flowing through it. However, once the pressure is off, the hose assumes it’s natural state, which, if the hose was rolled, is now full of twists. Twist a straw and try to drink from it. You can’t. Twist a hose and try pump manure through it. You can’t. And it is a royal pain to untwist it, because there’s basically no to do it, except by hand. That can take hours, hours in which you are constantly lifting and twisting heavy hose. Your arms and back WILL ache by the end of it. Anyway that’s why we don’t that.

Fellow operator here, how do you like that tractor compared to say a John Deere 9r? If you have ran one.
@B1RDSEYE4 жыл бұрын
clay pinkerton hey sorry it took so long to reply. I’m not really familiar with the 9r series, or John Deere tractors in general. Our company is very red. The reason we went with the versatile 400 is because it was much, much cheaper than a comparable Case IH. There are couple of things I like about the versatile. The 400 has a HUGE cab, much bigger than Case, so you are free to stretch out, and having a rider doesn’t make the cab cramped. And their air conditioning system is great. It definitely does the job, and it’s certainly better than Cases. Case needs to work on that. But I will say, I much prefer Case’s gear shift and throttle setup to versatile or John Deere. It’s very convenient to have the throttle and gear shift on the same joystick. Versatile is, in my opinion, needlessly complicated in this area. It’s fine once you get used to it, but it’s still not as nice as Case.

Just read news that some place in Wisconsin dairies are having to dump milk into their lagoons because theirs processors can't take it because of all the school and restaurants closing !!! What a shame and a real financial burden ,still have to feed and milk the cows ! This is interesting vid ,mile and a half is a long way to pump anything !! Hope for no leaks for sure !!
@rachelgibson18584 жыл бұрын
Yeah I read that too. I would think some of it could be processed into some product. If not milk for schools and restaurants. Then cheese and butter, they would keep for quite some time. Especially aged cheeses. Companies that make shelf stable products such as Evaporated Milk, and powdered milk. Things that all stores seem to have sold of of during the panic buying. Those companies should step up their production and take some of the milk that's being wasted.

Dairy manure smells sweeter than hog manure. Here in Randolph county in Indiana and the 7-8 surrounding counties we have large hog farms. They use that type along with tandem manure wagons and knifing it in. They will also use semi tank trailers to haul it to the fields and pump it off. Into manure wagons or the hose drag system with a stationary engine and pump system.

There is a farm about 6 miles east of the town I live in and they pump manure like this too. Definitely know what they are doing when the wind is blowing from that direction. I know they have pumps and hoses that go for over 2 miles from the lagoon. It is so far that they use a booster pump about half-way between the lagoon and the farthest fields. I have never seen the agitator. Very interesting

Friends of mine have a pumping company as well. Do you Guys have to get the soil sampled and they tell you how many gallons per acre? Here in Manitoba don’t think you would get away with manure above ground, it has to all be injected.

Nice technique! So you don't have to drive a hundred of extra miles to fill up your trailer every time.👍🏻

Bill Smith I’m also a nutrient application specialist and the hose is made to be drug it’s how many gallons that go through the hose that matters and that can depend right now almost all of our hoses have 20 million gallons through them and they are still decent

How durable is that hose? Just curious how often you wear a hole in it or snag it on an old chunk of iron hiding in the field?
@knusern6664 жыл бұрын
We started using hose in 1988 the last of that hose was about 25 years when i retired it, oldest hose i have now is from 1998. If it gets a hole we have a loose sleeve on the hose that we can pull into position and glue in place.. the sleeve is a piece of hose that we cut off before we put on the end connection and just leave on the hose next to the connection until needed.

Charlie Wolfe to much flotation
@frankeinfish3 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Sunshine There absolutely is such a thing as too much flotation, dumbass. Try a muddy field with too much rubber and you'll just spin because you don't have enough ground pressure, ie too much flotation.
@frankeinfish3 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Sunshine You wanna calm down there a bit, temperament like that can't be good for the heart you know? I'm not sure what you're trying to say when you're talking about getting a tractor stuck in the mud? Did you get the impression that I was saying flotation is useless? I'm saying that sometimes you can have too much flotation, a simple rule of thumb is that the more flotation you have the less force your tyres will be able to exert on the surface before they spin out due to a lack of grip..
