That's crazy. I never learnt how to tie a bowline as a kid and ppl lost their patience trying to show me a truckie's knot. One day as an adult someone showed me them both and I couldn't believe how simple they were. Dunno how I got through life without them lol

Love the knot tying billy, one of the most overlooked parts of most trades. But yet most important
@deluth46384 жыл бұрын
For a stupidly simple and mindless way to tie the bowline, tie a basic slip knot on the working end (leave it loose) and pass the tail through the loop. As you tighten the knot, pull the loop through the knot and allow the tail to form a bight and pass through the knot with the loop. BOOM, instant bowline. No remembering which rope goes on top, which way to wrap it, or where a rabbit goes anymore. Try it and you will be amazed how it requires zero thought to tie. Awesome video, Buckin'! You are a great teacher.

I can almost do clove hitches in my sleep. But bowlines, for years I’ve been trying to remember how to do them. Drives me crazy! This is probably my best chance to finally sink into my thick skull. Well presented Buckin 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

One of the best things about working as a Dogman is knowing all the knots you brought up & more. Now I'm a Tree Climber the pride that I feel in doing a difficult job well amazes me every day ....... You explained the applications of the various knots for Tree Climbing with great clarity It's so easy to see that you purposely teach in a way that enables you to be easily understood by those wanting to learn. Most clips I've come across the teacher wants to be a magician who pulls a rabbit out of a hat ....... Their Students haven't learnt a damn thing, & the supposed teacher stands in front of everyone & pats themselves on their back smug & with an over-inflated ego as what they really wanted all along is a chance to show how clever they think they are ...... Communication & Instruction are concepts that pass way over their heads.. Keep Up the Great Work Mate. I'll use a saying that means the world to me, & I hope it means just as much to you.......... "You're Mother Would Be Proud"

Hey buckin. I wanted to say thank you for all of your videos. I am not new to tree work I did it as a kid, my step dad was a tree climber and I looked up to him and knew that is what I wanted I worked as a ground man for 6 yrs as an adult. I'm 33 now and bought all the climbing gear needed to ascend trees. I climbed my spruce tree with spikes and a lanyard which i did after I seen you do natural crotch rigging on the tops of the firs. Lately I've been practicing ascending with just my saddle and climbing line using a Blake's hitch no spikes. I'm learning as I go and taking it slow. By next summer I hope to be climbing and taking trees down part time and eventually hope to quit my factory job. I really love your videos they are very informative and your not a safety Sally. I mean I am about safety. Your techniques remind me alot of my stepdad techniques. Next I plan to do some limb walking. What do you think the best hitch for that would be? And happy bday derek

The one I did for going down the rabbit comes up through first. I thought maybe I had tied it wrong thinking back about it lol! But later to find out there are multiple bowlines! Thanks for the info, love the videos!

It is always cheerful and full of encouragement. Your joyful personality is infectious, and I thank you for it! God bless you, Billy Ray. continue the good fight for love and kindness!

Good knots Billy. But aside from tree work they will come into use for many other things in life. I learned these in the Coast Guard boot camp, and also used them and many others in my 30 years as a firefighter. Knots are something that a lot of people don't know or don't understand, but they are WELL WORTH the effort to learn them. In the fire department in Portland, Oregon we used a variation of the double bowline to create a "Life Knot". A victims legs would go into the double loops and thre rest was tied into a special knot at the chest that came under the arms pits from behind and a person could be lowered from an elevated position, like a roof, down to the ground safely. Knots are invaluable in just every day life. Good video buddy. Jim

I remember the first time I started doing tree work last year and man I’ve been dying to get back into ever since. I swear I wish more older guys were like you buckin billy ray. I would give anything to be taught tree work from a climber and old school guy like you. That would be a opportunity of a lifetime. Anybody who has had the chance to work with you or for you is really lucky. I mean that. 💯🙏🏻 most guys don’t want to teach you at all. They bash you for not knowing it. Sucks it really makes it hard to feel comfortable and actually learn.
