Back in the 1990's, my father, in his mid-70's went through every tree on his 100' x 60' foot lot in suburbia (about 20 trees total), climbing 30-40 feet up (with a self-made rope harness) and topped (from the top down, one branch at a time, lowering each branch with a rope) every one down to 15 feet or less, because he was worried that my mom would have to deal with them after he was no longer physically able to. Most of them he cut down using a bow saw as much as possible. After he died, a storm (hurricane or tropical storm) went through causing massive tree fall damage throughout the suburbia... but not his home.

Jake. Bryan. Yep; Hogan's a 'chip off o' his ol' Pap's block'. Purty soon, he'll be doin' awesome tricks - like Buckin" did at minute 28 - lasoing hangers that are stuck waaaaay out there... on the first 'go 'round'! I LOVE how you fellas put your 'finger-prints' on those magnificent, tall firs. Years later, your artistry - mixed with the trees own growing magic - is not only as pretty as when you climbed outta the tree..., but even MOE beautious! U R the man glad there is someone who knows how to take care and not ruin a tree! I live in east Tennessee and had my walnut tree work on I drew a picture of how I wanted it done! When I came out he had cut every limb left about 3 foot on the trunk!!! Can you picture that a large walnut with limbs 3 feet long he did the whole tree like that! It makes me mad every time I come home or walk out the door later B.B. A FAN! 😎💨

Billy, you are one cool dude! You’ve got great energy. You live life like every day could be your last. And you make the most of it. My dad owned/operated a dental lab. So after high school a got a job at another lab to learn his trade, in hopes to someday work with him and follow in his footsteps. He passed away when I was 28. I didn’t know enough to run his business and I didn’t know much about him as well. So that died with him. When I see you work with your son, you really share your insight to the trade. You look out for him and prepare him for surviving on his own. When you’re gone he will have known who his father is/was and you will be there in his thoughts every time he reaches the top and stops to take it all in. That is really special. You are the best kind of father there is. (IMHO) Heck, I’m learning who I want to become.

Hi Bucking just now watching this video. I never believed in topping a tree. My main point is watching you climb & cut. Here in Northern Mississippi, USA it’s very hard to find a climber willing to climb 80’ to prune a tree. If you find such a person the price is so high your willing to gamble that the wind won’t blow the tree down on your house. So God bless you and your boy

Nice spruning! I feel like this type of pruning saves a lot of unnecessary removals of perfectly good trees, if nothing else but to give the customer peace of mind. I prefer just using my rope to advance, two times in my career I realized I was not attached to the tree in this situation of advancing around limbs and constantly connecting and disconnecting my biners so be aware of that danger. Also, I toss my brush like you but learned the hard way not to hold the branch so close to striking distance of the saw when my saw chattered off a petrified piece of dead wood and I nearly lost my finger.

Hola my friend! Hope your keepin your stick on thee ice!? I've fallowed you and your channel for a while now! I myself have just staryed climbing; i was a groundsman for a few years. I know alot of established tree caterers have different "laws", "rules" & regulations. I want to know why specifically i was tought not to use spurs/spikes unless i remove a tree!? I live in Washington. Yes you might have touched on this one specific question throughout your longevity in your channel. I yet have had any reaction specific to my question and also fully got a well rounded grasp on how individual specimens of trees?, shrubs, etc react to different types of topping/pruning/ xcrown cleaning/ dead wooding and so on. Any insight you have im very open too!!!! Thank you for your time if you do have it to spare to respond! Buy your safeties in different colors it will help. Here in the States Osha requires the two safety lanyards and a cinch on one so you can not slip more than 2 feet. Buckingham has a Tree Squeeze that is for climbing spares Lupillo Santiago uses it on palm trees and loves it. Check out his video's they are mostly in Spanish but you will understand what he is doing. Forestry Supply has the best deal on them I am not sure it would work for you but on palms it does the job. Lupillo Santiago is the Rock Star of tree men in San Diego. Santiago set a good example for the the tree industry.
