Hello Brock, check out how we do it sometime, we use a Ramsplitter inverted wood splitter on the Bobcat or tractor, hold the wood to saw, them split them with the same attachment, Take Care and Stay Safe 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸

I think you came up with a very efficient method, you figured out quickly that you need to balance your cuts, smart. Learning by mistakes. Thanks a lot BROCK.

I’ve been just using regular pallet forks for 20 years to do the same thing without the cost of a grapple. Also…pro tip….. use the box blade to push the cut rounds towards the splitter. It’s faster with just one push.. I’ve never seen the need for a grapple for me at all. I’ve never found a task that I can’t perform with just the pallet forks. That sure some pretty walnut you are into!! 👍👍

Brock, what I use is a Bxpanded thumb on the backhoe on my 2305 John Deere. It works really well for the same purpose. I personally don't have a use for a grapple.

Had to go out of town for a couple days of meetings for work. Glad I'm back home - there is something so satisfying about watching someone else work from the comfort of my home office... 😅 I think you figured it out pretty quick Brock. Looked like you had a good system. Thanks for sharing! 🤠

Definitely looks more efficient than moving everything around multiple times! I bet if you kept both grapples on but not the center rake it would hold it in place better. You could still do a cut in the center and end up with nice size pieces.

I've actually never seen the iron fist taken apart before. cool.

Maybe you should get the gizmo that Mike showed on the video from last weekend show he was at. You didn't have to be outside of your skid steer. You just cut it off, and then you split it up. It even moves the log into place. The only thing is that it is not free. It was a little bit pricey.

Pretty effective and efficient. One day I’d like to get a grapple for my tractor but with a 4 in 1 bucket it seems like it’s good enough plus in Australia grapples for tractors are not common nor widely available.

I've seen people carry wood to a splitter, pick it up and split it, throw it on the ground, pick it up and take it to a wood pile, then pick it up again to stack it. That wood will warm you several times if you let it!

The 500 isn't necessary, but it sure saves time! And if you're not cutting on the ground, you can really fly! Probably uses the same amount of gas, but time can be just as valuable as gas. I use my 500 for felling large trees, but mostly use it for bucking firewood expressly for that timesaving part. It certainly was worth the cost.

That iron fist grapple was very popular in the Soviet Union some years back. But they sold fewer and fewer of them as milk and bread prices rose….

Brock that looks good. I was thinking about adding Precision Manufacturing’Add-a-Grapple’ to my pallet forks. Do you think that would work similarly?

I cut my logs 148 inches, 8×16 no short pieces. Pallet forks to get them to a few cross logs to keep them off the ground next to the splitter and the wood pile. Cuts down the handling some but I have come to the conclusion if you burn wood you will handle it at least 5 times. Just my opinion!

I've been looking for a splitter for awhile. Do you ever think the 27 ton struggles or is it strong enough?
