Pyro please read the "Fatalist", you mixed up EVERYTHING. The whole point of the story was that the soldier (not a kozak and not Pechorin btw, a serb named Vulich), BELIEVED IN FATE, and proved everyone around him that it was not his time to die, as the pistol failed to shoot for the first time. But the irony of the story is that he was killed by a drunk kozak half an hour after this act, once again, proving that his death was predetermined.

It's also a part of larger pseudo-anthology The Hero of Our Time. All the stories have Pechorin (who acts as a machiavellian bastard, and probably one of the first sigma characters in fiction) but otherwise the stories aren't directly linked to each other and the timeline between them is really vague.

One neat detail of Concrete Tremor is that at the end of the final call, regardless of whether you win or lose, you can hear the click of a gun. Your opponent is doing the exact same thing.

@@astingilbert582The difference in timing for the suicide is probably due to guilt. If you lose they go later cause they at least saved a few of the buildings on their zone, so people they probably know, but if you win, you just killed everyone the guy was trying to at least save, so they have no reason to hesitate. They both off themselves anyway because they still murdered innocents in a game to try and safeguard their own.

After watching the video again, there's something that blew my mind about Concrete Tremor. Pyro's observations of "this guy is really good as if he were cheating" and "this game has been going on for a long time now", I feel that, after several retries of the game, you become the person on the other end of the phone call. Every single time you fail, you repeat the game. It may take a while, but you'll remember it. If you got the layout memorized, you could say that's cheating. It's an evolution of you, the player, into your opponent. Maybe it's just an over-observation, but I still think it's neat.

2:00 "Fatalist" is not a short story, it's a chapter in a Russian novel "A Hero Of Our Time" - One the first novels containing a "literally me" character. Not only that, Pyro was wrong twice - it was not Pechorin who played a Russian roulette, it was cossack Vulich, a fatalistic gambler who made a bet with Pechorin. Most importantly - he was killed the same day he survived a roulette, so the question of fate is left open in the novel.

its a new youtube feature, youtube will randomly pick a thumbnail it thinks you will pick, it can do the same for titles too Mr.Beast utilized this recently with thumbnails and found out the funny mouth agape meme actually resulted in less clicks, as a result they went through all previous videos with an open mouth for a thumbnail and edited them all, go and check if you don't believe me

Concrete Tremor is the most terrifying of the bunch, for me. (Play 1) Play blind, lose, destroy a bunch of your opponent's building and all of your own. (Play 2) Play knowing the map, destroy all of your opponent's buildings and lose a bunch of your own, "win". (Play 3) 5-head, realize that the best outcome is to AVOID hitting any of the buildings, that way you save the most lives, do that until the very last shot when you're out of empty spaces to hit and the game FORCES you to hit a building 😰 There is no good outcome, and you can't wash your hands

This is beatable with some setups but yeah, it seems to be some sort of safeguard if you beat too much of the game in the first or second run or so. They want you to experience the death cards before you can proceed.

To be fair, you can totally bypass the Bear Stack if you have the right cards.

Those cards are going to be near impossible to get in a normal run of the game, that's more useful for the Kaycee's Mod modifier that does this for every boss's 2nd phase in KM. Usually the way you do this in normal gameplay is by getting lucky with a turn skip hourglass, and then carving a hole in the bears with a strong card or an Adder. In KM you can pretty often get a strong enough card before this point to plow through the bear wall, or use a Wiseclock.

Just a few years ago people would watch reviews of games they would never play for the plot summaries, but now that most reviewers start holding out on info people have switched to watching video essayist instead because they don't care about the game itself, they just want to put something on in the background and get the juice out of the story in 30 minutes instead of 6 hours. This is a problem with all forms of media though it looks slightly differently for each one

I got spoiled on all of Undertale and its secrets and theories several years before I was able to play it for myself. Plus, like someone else said, Pyro does add his own speculation and thoughts on the games, and I do like seeing other people’s views on the things I’m interested in.

“Fatalist” is one of the chapters of the novel “A Hero of Our Time” written by Mikhail Lermontov. Pechorin is the main character of this novel, but he was not the one who shot. The shooter was Lieutenant Vulich: “Vulich pulled the trigger... misfire! - God bless! - many cried out, - not loaded... “We’ll see, though,” said Vulich. He cocked the hammer again and took aim at the cap hanging over the window; a shot rang out and smoke filled the room.” Pechorin was present in the room, contemplating this action

One thing ive noticed with these games is the theme of parity. In Carbon Steel the researcher testing on you in the bad ending has zero clue what hes taking samples from, just like you were just a few minutes ago. In Concrete Tremor your opponent is apparantly "cheating", just like you're able to by remembering the locations of the buildings from your last playthrough. This could be your opponents second time playing as well. It's super interesting

A really interesting deep dive down some truly captivating experiences. One correction I cannot pass up, though... 2:24 - I burst out a solid chuckle when after a pathos-filled recounting of Lermontov's "Fatalist", Pyro gets the name of the character in question wrong at complete random. Pechorin is the main hero of the book, sure, but he's not the one shooting himself to prove fate exists. That'd be Lieutenant Vulich. What cracked me up most is the fact that it's a silly mistake to make in a tangent that you yourself decided to go on, haha

Wait, what if every game shown here is set within the Tarturus engine. Each game being someone's own personal version of hell, from something as small as spiders, all the way up to having to kill millions of people or forced to continuously live out your vices. In the first game the person we play as may have been trying to escape said shelter but was caught, only to then actually escape within the machine and be shown an impossible horror outside. This would even make sense with the note, maybe being another person who was put into the engine for the same reason and was able to hide a single message for everyone else after him.

The simulation was meant for torture though, and in buckshot roulette, you either die or you get away alive with cash ; neither of which were the aims of the tartarus engine. I personally have a theory too, not so confident about it but when the group of engineers hacked the tartarus engine to go into a world of fantasy, they did enjoy the rest of their time there, but eventually one gets bored of being given everything at some point. I just think that after centuries, millennia of these engineers living happy lives ( maybe even other people joining in too ) they decided it's too easy and hence made everyone else's life a living hell, they confined everyone, trying to show that being happy isn't so easy- stopping them from exploring the outside world, not letting them get what they want in a blink of an eye. Eventually the steel walls get boring for the engineers too, and as the video states,to cure this insanic boredom they create a game ; the buckshot roulette. It's all a cycle, who knows the engineers might have even made another tartarus engine using the code they already have to torture people who don't agree with their ideals, and end up becoming what they despise. Or maybe it's all in Le Head

Concrete Tremor is probably my favorite Klubnika game, next to the obvious Buckshot Roulette. It's an excellent demonstration of the effects war. The people in charge who don't care, the ones on the front line who are traumatised, and the innocent victims caught in the crossfire. My favorite morbid detail is that before you pull the trigger on the revolver on yourself, you can hear the distant, muted shot of your opponent choosing the same fate as you, both of you unable to live with the guilt of what you've done. It's a haunting narrative.

Just one thing I noticed about the ending of Buckshot Roulette is that whenever you die, the "afterlife" looks very much alike the "This is not a place of honor"(I don't know if there is a better name for it), which is supposed to serve as a warning to anyone entering that the place has is dangerous and is infected by radiation(In theory it could serve as any kind of warning, the point is that the jagged metal spikes, or metal spikes, are supposed to imposed a feeling of danger and caution, as even if our society crumbles down because of radiation, their design is supposed to be so alien that no one is going to near them, as radiation can last a lot longer than any civilation). This could be seen as more evidence to the idea that "heaven" has been infected, and the spikes serve as a warning to anyone entering. Or maybe they are just supposed to be creepy, idk.

For any non slavic person, here is more context in the beginning: “Fatalist” is a chapter in a book “A Hero of Our Time” written by Russian poet and writer Mikhail Lermontov. Pyro told it a little bit wrong In the evenings, the officers entertained themselves by playing cards. During one of them, there was a conversation about fate - is it written in heaven or not, is human life and death predetermined? The conversation turned into an argument, the officers were divided into those who were for and those who were against. One of the officers, Vulich, a passionate gambler and fatalist, suggested checking “whether a person can arbitrarily dispose of his life, or whether a fatal moment has been assigned to each of us.” Vulich took a pistol at random, everyone present froze - now something irreparable could happen. Pechorin thought he saw the stamp of death in Vulich’s eyes. He told him about this: “You will die today.” Vulich shot himself in the temple - it misfired! Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, glad that the gun was not loaded and no one was killed. But Vulich fired to the side - the bullet pierced the cap on the wall, the pistol was loaded. In the morning, Pechorin was awakened by the news that they had found an officer hacked to death with a saber. It was Vulich. His death in the guise of a drunken Cossack with a saber found him on the way home. So Pechorin unwittingly predicted the fate of the unfortunate officer.

That only happens when you play in a way that is unfair for Leshy to a decent degree. Too Fast Too Soon. It also makes sure you understand everything by making it so new things are added. If you play fair, you are very much unlikely to see it happen unless you get extremely lucky. Technically though, Leshy is the one playing with a disadvantage unless it is a gimmick from a boss in play. Leshy shows what comes next and that lets you plan ahead instead of just reacting to what is played. The dealer is on a more even playing field than what Leshy is on I feel.

"Fatalist" is a chapter in "Hero of our days", a novel by Mikhail Lermontov. Pechorin is not a real man, but Lermontov obviously based him off himself. Russian roullette's true origins are not as easy to trace, although it's possible that Russian imperial officers played it to pass time during Caucasus wars.

A similar game is described in a short story by Alexander Grin, a Russo-Soviet writer of Polish descent (who also had hard times under both the Tsarist regime and the Soviets), it's called Zurbagan Shooter and published in 1913, the plot of which happens in a fictional city of Zurbagan. The difference though is that now it's an actual revolver in use. The term Russian roulette was invented by some American writer-journalist in 1937 who allegedly heard a story from some French Legion vet who knew some French Legion soldiers from Russia who played this game. Judging by Hero of our days and Zurbagan Shooter, the game was probably based off some real occurances (though it might have been fueled by urban legends rather than actual events).
