Adding effects to a vocal track is quite easy. Once you have a vocal track recorded in Audacity you need to duplicate that track. On on the EDIT menu you need to select DUPLICATE.
Now you have two exactly the same tracks. On the left of the second track click MUTE. This will make that track temporarily silent.
Next select the first track by clicking on the grey tab on the left of the track. Now go to the EFFECT menu and select the effect you would like to use.
Once your have adjusted the settings in the effect module click OK to hear your changes. You can UNMUTE the second track to hear how the changed track sounds with the original sounding track. Adjust the GAIN on each track to a setting you like.

Very clear and coherent. I shall attempt to listen further to your your tutorials on Audacity, for the terminology is not always meaningful to me and if I see, for example a tutorial or compression, I can understand what "compression" means and how I think I ought to use it. With the expression of my gratitude.

Hey Andrew, Im currently experimenting with this program and I would like to know why it seems that it carries over vocal effects from a previous project to a new project, How do I reset the vocals effects to normal....(I used the walkie-talkie effect a previous project and now it automatically does it on all of the vocal recordings and i cant stop or reverse it)

To start you could use the Change Pitch effect and they try a little Change Tempo. Next play with the Equalization effect. Try playing with the graphic eq sliders to fine tune the sound. I do know what your own voice sounds like so I can't give you specifics. Play with the eq until you find what you like. That is a good start. Good luck A

It should. It might be down to your microphone, some make the voice distorted, and such, noise isn't really a issue because you can remove it, but what you can't get back is quality.. and if a mic removes that :S

I am just now recording a bunch of Christian songs I have written on Sibelius, that I sing and want to record--and this is very helpful. Professional recording is way too expensive, as I'm sure you know. Audacity is intimidating, like flying a plane, until you understand it. Sibelius' instruments have also always been minimal, and I have compensated with EQ on the p.a. system. This is much better, to alter the sound on the recording itself. Thanks! Very clear explanation! Yours is the first channel to which I have subscribed, and I have been on this for years.
