Sravasti, capital of an ancient kingdom by the same name, is sacred to the Buddhists because it was here that Lord Buddha confounded his critics with a million fold manifestation of himself, seated on a thousand-petalled lotus, as fire and water emanated from his body. The nearest airport is in Lucknow (151 kms) and the railhead is in Balrampur (19 kms).

What's wrong about mentioning Lord Ramas name..it is a fact. Two great leaders were part and parcel of this place I am lucky to visit and stay in this holy pkace

Historians says & confirms that Ramayana is an epic & not historical. Be that as it may how come Rama could have built a city like Shravasti ? It is fictional with an ulterior motive. Shravasti is of very high significance for Buddhists all over the world for Buddha was donated with this park by his then popular lay disciple Anandapindika. Not only that the present Bodhi tree here was from the sapling of Original Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya under which Buddha first attained Gana ( enlightenment ). This tree was brought & planted here by Ananda, Chief attendant of Lord Buddha for those of his lay disciples who couldn't travel all the way to Bodh Gaya then, to pay their obeisance. Anandapindika the richest man bought this land from the then The Prince of Shravasti against gold coins spread all over the land. Anandapindika donated the land to Buddha & his disciples & constructed requisite building structures for Buddha & his disciples to visit & stay for prolonged period at Shravasti during annual rainy seasons. This is the only place which Buddha visited for maximum number of times annually & delivered his important sermons.
