Спешу заметить, что Мара это не просто "демон", это Бог-Демиург, создатель нашего мира. Вы все знакомы с ним, когда слышите внутренний монолог в своей голове или когда видите сны. То что творит их - это частное выражение способностей Мары, сотворившего всю нашу вселенную. Если бы не было Мары - не было бы мира, в котором мы живём. Он нам не враг, точно так же как автор внутреннего монолога в нашей голове или наше отождествление с личной историей нашего тела - нам не враги, они лишь наши функции.

Yes exactly. The mara is the god that controls our reality in a way, or in charge of reality etc. however the mara is able to take the shape of anything even the shape of a demon if he pleases. It is said the being known as mara is born due his own massive good karma in past births. However after being born in mara state due to his own massive good karma , power hunger leads him down a path that will result in bad consequences even for himself. It is mentioned that infinitely long time ago, Buddhas right hand disciple was born in Mara state too as a result of his own good karma, however later he was born to hell for trying to harm a Buddha and almost infinite time later he corrected his mistakes and reached arhat state as he always had massive good karma to become an arhat and reach nirvana.
