@@FactsVerse We were supposed to have a surfer come & do an assembly for our Middle School in Orange County, Calif., but instead an old guy showed up. It was Buddy Ebsen. He'd come to apologize bc his yacht had caused an accident & the surfer was injured and couldn't come, so he came with his tap shoes. He was amazingly good & gave us a great speech, but we were brats. Later, we found out the surfer was where he shouldn't have been & it wasn't even Buddy's fault. A truly decent guy who just didn't want us to go without our assembly (the surfer probably could've come, anyway). Thank You for bringing us these stories!

I loved watching him as uncle Jed & Barnaby Jones. It was like watching the grandfather I never knew 😢. They say Everyone has a none- biological twin Somewhere, Well Buddy Ebsen was my grandfather's none- bio twin . My grandfather died in 1940 @ 50 years old when my Mother was only 8 years old . 😢 I had always seen pics of my grandpa and when I was old around 4 I recognized Buddy Ebsen on TV on the Beverly Hillbillies in one of the rare occasions he had his hat off, and to my delighted childhood surprise I saw the man in the picture on the wall, I knew as my Grandpa Jackson on tv. I told my Mother that grandpa wasn't in Heaven bcuz he was on TV. Of course that made her cry and I didn't understand why. 😮 but my Grandma, all 9 of thier children, and most of his 30 grandchildren, and even a few great & great great grandchildren over these meny years have been ask why we have a picture of Buddy Ebsen on our wall ,well when we tell them "That's not Buddy Ebsen ,that's Wilmer Jackson our grandfather they look at us like we're lying. I promise we're not .

That Buddy Ebsen took the time to help my husband, long before he became my husband, after he was stung by a stingray off the CA. coast one day. At the time my husband was stung he was in a lot of pain and he went to the nearest home to get some help. Buddy came right out and helped my husband get the area washed off and bandaged up so he could get on his way. That’s the most important roll I remember him playing. Mr.Ebsen could be human and express kindness before anything else. Thank you Mr. Ebsen may you rest in peace.

I met Buddy Ebsen briefly back in the 80s when he came into our retail store when I lived on Catalina Island. He came in to buy a few souvenirs and one of the other sales girls who I will refer to as Betty recognized him immediately and jumped to help him out. When he was paying for the merchandise, he was writing a check. At the time unless you had a drivers License, and a credit card we could not accept personal checks! (He didn’t have a credit card.) “Betty“ told him that she couldn’t accept his check unless he had the proper ID! So I casually just said to her “You know, I don’t think we’re gonna have much problem with this check going through, Betty!” And I turned to Buddy Ebsen and smiled and said, “Do you think so, sir?” He looked at me, with a big grin, and said, “No, I don’t think you will!” I just said, “I didn’t think so! Betty, take the check!” As brief as that interaction was, he was just as you would see him on television, tall, charismatic, and very sweet! And I was so thrilled to have met him! Hope you see this Kiki! Your dad was wonderfully talented, and just a really lovely man!

I saw Buddy Ebsen as I was exiting a plan at LAX. He was in first class but as I walked thru recognized him right away. Apparently, he was waiting for assistance after everyone exited the plane. He remember he had a colorful cravat around his neck. I understand he definitely had artist talent as a painter and did a painting of the hound dog featured on the Beverly Hillbillies Show. Also that he lived up in Palos Verdes towards the end of his life. I enjoyed the Beverly Hillbillies and Barney Jones but he also was a sidekick of the Davie Crockett Show and quite a horseman too. RIP Buddy. Enjoyed watching him with Shirley Temple on reruns of her films. Definitely a great dancer.

@@FactsVerse In the seventies, I had the pleasure of editing re-runs of The Beverly Hillbillies for a tv station in Stockton, CA. We would cut programs for commercial time sold in the time slot. That show was hilarious! A couple of years later, we edited Barnaby Jones. There were three of us who edited there and we all loved Buddy Ebsen.

I was a set-lighting tech on Barnaby Jones at the old Sam Goldwyn Studios. That was the first show I ever worked on. Between "takes" all crew-members not involved in re-setting lights, etc., would crowd around Buddy because he kept them laughing with his stories of incidents occurring during his previous years. I could never stop to listen because I was setting lights and running cable. He was always the same person off-screen as you saw on-screen. A very nice, comfortable, relaxed, amiable guy.

Of course he was J.D.Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies but also did a fantastic job portraying a poor man with street " skills" that captivated Opie and in the end teaching everyone a moral character lesson . Excellent performance.

I liked Buddy in “Between Heaven and Hell”. He told Robert Wagner “whoever you’re gonna shoot, don’t shoot me”. That was a great movie, a poor man and a rich man become lifelong friends. Each learned from the other.

Years ago, I found a local tv channel that ran old black and white movies. Buddy Ebsen danced in a production about the Ziegfeld Follies and he was marvelous! Along with super fancy tap footwork, he did these leaps that were amazing! He outshined everyone on the stage with him.

My grandmother used to tell us that on one particular flight from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles sometime just before 1970, she sat across the aisle from a man whom she thought looked familiar. She asked him if anyone ever told him he looked like Buddy Ebsen. His reply was "Yes, ma'am, that's because I am." The whole cast was on the flight. That was also the first time I ever heard that Irene Ryan wasn't as old as they made her up to be.

Thank you KiKi. I always enjoyed your dad as a dancer in older movies and B of course as Jed Clampett in Beverly Hill Billys. I had no idea he was the original ‘Tin Man’. I am almost 77 so I was a kid and then a young adult. Amazing stories and the sad truth that the thing that killed him was the Aluminum make up. Of course in todays times he would have been able to get $ for the makeup causing, in the long run, his death. I enjoyed his dancing very much. I missed when his story along with films of his life. Thank you Buddy. I wish I knew ya!😊

Very few people born after the 1940s would know that Buddy's brush with aluminum toxicity would not have been left under an oxygen tank for two weeks. Instead, he would have spent two weeks "in" an oxygen tent. Oxygen tents were a clear plastic/vinyl enclosure that was tucked into the bed sheets to provide a high-oxygen atmosphere for the patient to breathe.

@@FactsVerse I'll tell you one thing. I was born 48. People who were born before 1955 remember that the TV programs and films were family orientated. Leave it to Beaver, Donna Reed, Father knows best. They also showed men in films as wanting to help the society. Shoot out at the OK Coral, Sergeant York, High Noon, The longest Day. Dragnet was about a man who devoted his life to fighting crime. I consider that the TV programs that they have now a are a disaster for a small child to watch. In "One day at a time" it showed being a divorced woman having a life style that's a lot of fun. In "Two and Half Men" they show a drunken womanizer has a really fun life style and they also show that for a man to be married is a disaster. I believe that a certain President's son really enjoyed that show. Also shows like this breed single motherhood. When a female falls into that, it's usually a one way ticket to poverty. In Simpsons and Married with children, they showed dysfunctional families as normal and an amusing way to live. They also show men as boobs such as Seinfeld. In Cheers they popularize going to a bar and drinking.

Nancy Culp who played Miss Hathaway and Buddy Ebsen had a big time falling out. Nancy Culp ran for a seat in the house of representatives and Buddy Ebsen was in a commerical that denunciated Culp. She lost. Later on Ebsen got in touch to tell her how sorry he was that he did that and they made up.

One of my favorite show as a little girl. The Beverly Hillbilly's! Jed Clampett, Granny, Ellie Mae, And of course Jethro.... So many memories! The T V was my constant companion when I was a little girl. Me & brother were always coming home to an empty house. Therefore my family were the famlies on T V.. Father Knows Best, Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle show, Hogan's Heroes, Family Afair, Marcus Welby MD, The Bonanza show with a little Joe....I always remember how Jed was the only one that SOMETIMES could calmed granny down....lol.... You cannot replace the joy as well the feeling the comfort you felt from the tv shows they had back then..... 50'tys 60tys & 70tys ❤ They truly became to be part of your family.......It is soooo sad to me how the standards have become on the T V shows.... I am praying that God Almighty is Healing our America as well as the 7 Mountains that structure our World...Government, Media, Business, Education Arts & Entertainment, Family, Religion.
