Please keep adding more episodes with Buddy if you can because that man was an absolute master of storytelling, jokes, faces, and impressions and I find myself chuckling for days after watching a new (to me) one of these! "Once upon a time..." 😂

LOVED every time Buddy was on. He was one of the Bluest comics of the era but could get away with so much because he came off as so loveable.

Buddy Hackett is one of Johnny’s favorite guests. He would crack Johnny up and sometimes made him very nervous with some of the jokes/stories he told. Many times buddy went over the top. I think he was the most censored guest ever on the Tonight Show with Johnny!

Buddy Hackett was like Rickles in that you never knew what he would say or do. Terrific storyteller. Johnny was great about letting them roll and not upstaging them.

Agreed. Johnny always got guests on who he trusted and could let them do their thing. His intuition never let him down, even if it was slightly off, it always made for a great show, because he was never far off. I so wish there would be someone with Johnny's calibre along with a pool of Hollywood talents nowadays to make another great talk show like this again.

Buddy Hackett, as a comedian, was unique in what he had to offer. He was all about that New York Jewish smartass guy, that schmarmy sort of talk. He was also nuts; Check his story on Dean Martin's show where he's "going out to get a pizza pie". His live performances were what were expected unfiltered, so he had to edit for television. Off the air, he'd go at the studio audience loose, and that is why they broke up like he was the funniest man in the room, which he was.

I was doing a rock radio morning show on Cape Cod in 1990 and Buddy came by as a guest to promote his appearance at the CC Melody Tent. I reminded him beforehand that he needed to be careful with his language. Either he didn't hear me. Or he just didnt care.

I'm an English expatriate living in Germany but I've been to the States countless times & have many friends over there. America is genuinely unique as aside from Isreal it's the only country in the world were a Jewish comedian can be 100% Jewish on national television & come across as mainstream.

@@GrouchoMarx-MaGeorge that’s very astute. I remember as a child. Gil Hodges was the manager of the Mets and he was a combat vet in the south pacific during the second world war he died at 48. He looked 65 years old. That entire generation that saved the world had nothing handed to them, they worked for everything.

I never thought Buddy Hackett was funny in the least little bit. I loved Johnny but most of those comedians from that time. George Gobel, George Burns, all those guys from that time. Not Funny. Not that i was too young and didn't get the jokes, i got them, just not funny. What the hell is the audience laughing at? the Applause sign i guess.
