The irony is is that Celts were living in NZ thousands of years before Māori arrived, but it’s been completely covered up by government and private interest groups to keep the Māori land ownership narrative afloat.

Our family arrived in Petone in 1839. Before any Treaty was signed. Not sure what that means in terms of our NZ status but I have always understood we are one people, one nation. I hope it remains that way.

I also agree, although, IMO, it's more nuanced. The word 'Māori', as a collective noun, only came into use (by the Pakeha) during the 1940s, after the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. The reason Pakeha can't solve Māori issues is because Māori are tribal by their very nature and DON'T speak with one voice. Prior to the Treaty of Waitangi, Iwi and Hapu were nation states until themselves. These separate Māori nations gave up their nationhoods under the Treaty of Waitangi to become one nation with the Pakeha. That's why there are 540 Chiefs as signatories to the Treaty. Pakeha can't solve 'Māori issues' because Māori are still holding tribal grudges from at least two centuries ago. It's this misunderstanding by Pakeha, including those self-styled 'righteous Pakeha' in our Goverment, that causes Pakeha to continually look for ways, often involving money, to fix what is an unfixable problem from a Māori perspective. Unfortunately, from at least the 1970s, there have been a succession of Māori and non-Māori 'leaders' and hangers-ons who've seen the New Zealand government as a "soft touch". These people are more than happy to foment division and feed from the trough of taxpayer-funded handouts, which are now into the multi-billions of dollars. New Zealand's Government needs to stop trying to fix Māori problems. Our Government needs to stop being a pushover and start treating all Māori and Pakeha as NEW ZEALANDERS, with the same rights and obligations. Pakeha can't, and shouldn't, try to fix the wrongs Māori tribes and Hapu did to each other two centuries ago during the Maori tribal wars of 1807 - 1845.

Given that you juxtapose disbanding the party with the government supposedly sitting on its hands, would it seems to me indicate that this is something you think the government should do.They don't have the power, that you want them to have such power makes me very glad your political influence is limited to a vote. He knows he’s facing prosecution for his misuse of funds, electorate fraud, mismanagement, dishonesty etc. He knows his Māori Party has no traction in parliament and they aren’t going to deliver him any rewards. So plan B A separate parliament where he will claim immunity from prosecution. That parliament would be headed by the Maori party which he is head of. Essentially making him the top dog of their utopia. He likes to get his own way and will not go down without a fight. He’ll use the race card even after it’s maxed out. He’ll be busy now garnering support from various iwi groups to criminal gangs . Corner him and he’ll go gung-ho.

All of us are from settlers. Almost all of us are mixed from Oceania and the early Euro settlers. We do need to slow down on immigrants though, they send earnings out of the country, get our passports and dash off to greener grasses overseas. Meanwhile our young have lost hope in buying a home and starting families with Kiwi children, that we desperately need, unless their parents can pay. Real Kiwis only have one country we call home and always return to our families here if we do an OE. Its the immigrants leaving by the thousands, not us. Stop investing in this endless cycle and start supporting all Kiwis, part Maori and Non Maori.

I love our Kiwi and Maori culture, it's what makes us uniquely New Zealand. And as New Zealanders, we are all privileged to live in this first world country built on the backs of all our tupuna/ancestors within a colonial system. A system that provides free education, healthcare, welfare and superannuation. If you were born in India, none of these are provided. A system that has tried for decades to right the wrongs of our colonial forebears with land settlements, Marae upgrades, access to tertiary education, free alchohol drug and mental health facilities run by Maori for Maori. Maori health providers are also funded by tax payers. When will Maori realize that despite a history of some bad behavior on the part of pakeha, we love you. You are inherently connected to our identity. We don't want discord, we want peace, unity and the space for all cultures to express their unique beauty. Just a thought.

These things you name were mainly under a socialist Labour govt. A party with a heart - Helping the less fortunate and NOT ONLY Maori which many seem to think - its great to know that some like you love us - there are organisational groups though who want to make profit out of everything and so for many of us (including nonMaori I would think) those aspects of life get in the way - rules for everything which sometimes seems unfair - you may not see it because. you belong to the majority - like many minorities throughout the world the pattern is the same - eg. rates on our own land we have inherited from ancestors - and without improvements RATES still have to be paid - I ask FOR WHAT - another example - Maori should look after themselves with the Claims payments - Those payments which are petty compared to the land value taken should rightfully be paid back - did you know that some of the confiscated land in Tauranga where I come from was sold to settlers - land by theft through the might of the musket, and later the pen - so until we are fairly listened to there will be a group like the Maori Party (some aspects of their policies which I don't accept I might add) who will speak out

Quite a history about the Maori - put the Inca's or the Aztecs to shame in degeneration. Outcast from the Cook Islands during the 13th century as weaker primitive Neolithic people by later waves of Polynesians (Maori were from the original wave of primitive Polynesians pushed right out across the Eastern Pacific by successive stronger more advanced groups arriving from the west). They were outcast on rafts and some floated to the North East Coast of NZ driven by the South Equatorial Current and were stranded for 500 years. The weaker were pushed down to the South Island or Chathams etc. So the South Island Maori (had their own language) were the weakest of the weak. They were captured and eaten as 'Slave flesh' by the northern Maori doing raids. (Well they all ate each other - 80% of Maori pre European were dark skinned easily fattened slaves farmed and eaten by a lighter skinned 'Ariki' thin wiry elite royal caste). So it was with some righteousness as well as British cunning that they armed the southern Maori who then with muskets launched a genocidal war on the north.. That plus measles & flu halved the Maori population and removed most of the elite. The British then liberated the slaves and outlawed cannibalism. The northern Maori fought with the British against the south bad west Maori 'rebels'. The Maori sued for peace and a treaty was signed that removed all sovereignty and made them subjects to the English crown where the English would protect them from each other. Land could only be sold to or via the Crown. Maori could live on their reservations with native custom but none did. The treaty of Waitangi is strikingly clear in that the Maori cede sovereignty completely and become citizens of Great Britain - all 3 clauses lock that in. Nothing in today's 'Maori' culture is authentic. The music - all European (Maoris did not have tonal music, the songs are missionary tunes or introduced - Poi dance is from Islands and Stick dance from old Malaya. The carvings and art - all European - Arabesques that was the fashion at the time. Original Maori had limited dash carving and no painting of objects. No written language - all the syntax & grammar plus vowel inflection is European. No technology - some lagoon canoes and wood or stone Neolithic tools. No food sources - like pigs or crops - they left that all behind, all they had was a weak inbred fox (now extinct), some rats and a weak dismal pacific yam. They ate out all the bird-life including 10 species of Moa and 46 other bird species, didn't know how to farm the sea as were island people and so they turned to societal cannibalism. Today - no full blood or half blood left. No genuine tradition and almost all are offspring of Maori slave females sold to white settlers for muskets or food. -So more fake than the 'Sioux' or 'Cherokee' or 'Crow' who had at least retained some genuineness about who they were and their history. -Everything you 'saw or experienced' is fake. A totally convected disneyfied tokenistic set of inventions fueled by a grievance culture of mixed-race imposters fetishing a false past bad history because it pays benefits. 'This Horrid Practice' - Professor Paul Moon, "A Savage Country" Professor Paul Moon 'Behind The Tattooed Face' - Heretaunga Pat Baker, 'Anthropology In The South Seas' - H D Skinner

At last, it's encouraging to see Maori coming out not in support of TPM. I liked Buddy's analogy that TPM doesn't represent all Maori any more than David Seymour represents all non-Maori. Nor does any single Party! Fortunately, the adults in parliament can cope with differences of opinion, without having to threaten to tear the place apart. The solution is to dissolve the Maori electorates, as promised when MMP was being considered, which will help take the focus away from the separatism TPM that needs, to remain relevant. It'll fade away as other Maori realise there is more to be gained by all pulling in the same general direction.

Remember it was the national John Key government that ceeded millions of public funded and managed conservation land to the modern regional tribal representatives. For example Waikaremoana. After which tribal radicals promptly burned down 50 conservation tramping fishing and hunting shelters, in spite? To decolinise the area. I discussed this with moari identifying university graduate professionals who stated "it's maori land they cam do what they want." My response was hypothermia is colour blind.

We have to go to the source of the discussion. At present we live in a democracy with a capitalist economy. The Maori party and their connected activists have no plan other than to destroy our society, that fact supported by the evidence that no county on earth has a successful alternative model. A confused mix of communism and tribal royalty is likely their only plan, but never discussed. Because they know all the alternatives have failed and legacy media will even ask the basic question, the Maori party cannot answer. Of course they will suggest real communism hasn’t been tried yet. Or what’s wrong with Maori royalty running New Zealand, while banging on about the evils of colonialism. Simply they are the malcontent loosers without a plan.
