Remember the days of a $500 flagship? Even then, I went for the mid range cards as $500 seemed like an unreasonable amount to spend. I recently got a used 3080 FE for $500 and it felt like I was finally able to live out my childhood dreams of buying a flagship card for flagship price. But today's definition of flagship has bloated so much. Endramble

RX 6600 is insane for its price, I'd definitely recommend it over the 2060, 3050 and 3060. Driver issues are barely noticeable. Despite many people saying they're worse than Nvidia, I actually prefer them due to the more simplistic interface. The drivers aren't worse, just not all games support them as much as they do Nvidia drivers.

Another downside at the moment is that if you want the latest amd processors, you are paying at least £250 premium for the motherboard and memory, so you're basically restricted to previous gen if you care at all about price. I miss when I bought my R9 270 for £130, then my 1660 super for £200, which I thought was very expensive at the time. Now, pretty much nothing in the 3000 or 4000 series from nvidia is even below £300.

Thank you for highlighting the "Discrete" in that wccftech article you show about intel gpus, I was about to make a fool of myself explaining how its probably counting the integrated graphics as gpus. @c-simile1632
@c-simile1632 Жыл бұрын
I believe that article is referring to GPU shipments throughout Q3 and not total market share. It additionally includes laptops, which also slightly alters the outlook. Going by their numbers, or rather JPR's, the sale numbers in millions of units sold: Desktop: AMD: 0.69 (10%) Intel: 0.26 (4%) Nvidia: 5.94 (86%) Total: AMD: 1.05 (8%) Intel: 0.62 (4%) Nvidia: 12.19 (88%) For context: Q3'21 had shares of Nvidia 83%, Intel 0%, and AMD 17% Q2'22 had shares of Nvidia 80%, Intel 5%, AMD 15% That is to say that Intel sold more Discrete GPUs through laptops than they did as standalone GPUs. The numbers and terminology is a tad misleading, as it's intended to be used in the context of market outlook and investment, but it's still a decent accomplishment for Intel. So just to riterate: The 8% and 4% numbers are NOT total marketshare, but rather share of shipped GPU's during Q3 2022.

@@c-simile1632 yeah, to me, laptop discrete counts the same as laptop integrated as to what people that actually care about hardware would buy. Not dissing, but I think it's important to mention.

The problem with the 6500xt wasnt that it itself was slow, but the fact that it used a pci-e x4 interface, which was fine on a pci-e 4.0 system, but its target audience were budget gamers, most of which were using pci-e 3.0 systems, even 2.0 if you were upgrading a cheap pre-built, and those had a massive nerf. It also really showed the state of the industry, a lot of people, me included, had cards in their system that cost less, were years old at that point, and outperformed it, leaving a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouths.

@BelleDoesStuff
@BelleDoesStuff Жыл бұрын
@@raylxh1925 Well, my feedback on it is likely similar to that of tech reviewers, and I haven't done tons of testing as I've only had the card for about a week, but sure. For starters, it's probably important to mention my PC: - i9 9900k - 32GB DDR4 - 1TB RAID0 SSD boot disk - 1000w Gold EVGA PSU - Arc A770 Limited Edition /w 16gb of ram. - I have a 1440p 144hz display It's important to note that with this system, I do not have PCIe gen 4, but I was lucky in that my motherboards were one of the few z370 chip set boards to get resizable bar support added. Without resizable bar, this would have been a really stupid purchase. Not having PCIe gen 4 doesn't seem to make much of a difference, as far as I can tell. First impressions with the physical hardware: - The packaging is really nice, maybe a bit overdone considering the price of the GPU, but it is nice. - The GPU is built like it's a laptop, which both makes it more complicated to perform any kind of work on it, and that also means intel is probably spending way too much money on the actual assembly of it. - Despite being smaller than my 1070ti, the A770 is physically heavier - The A770 is a very pretty card and it looks great in my PC. The good: - While emulating Breath of The Wild with Cemu (1440p, cranked AA, view distance, and everything else to it's maximum), it actually had more stable framerate than my old card - When I tired to play BeamNG drive, it ran great and I was able to crank the settings a bit higher than my old card, with similar performance. - Dirt Rally 2.0 with settings absolutely cranked runs amazingly - 3DMark Port Royal (ray tracing benchmark) puts the A770 between a RTX 3060ti and a RTX 3070 in terms of ray tracing performance. - When I tried the XeSS feature test in 3DMark, it gave a 50% uplift with the quality preset, and XeSS actually improved the visual quality as it seemed to clear up some visual oddities that were there without it The okay: - I'm really excited to have newer features such as AV1 encoding and decoding. I've enabled AV1 in KZfaq playback, it's never crashed once, looks great, and the bitrate is definitely lower than vp9 while retaining the same visual quality, which is great. But, as it stands, there aren't many situations when I can take advantage of the AV1 encoding on it. Discord just got support for AV1 encoding, but I believe it's only for RTX 4000 cards. - When I tried GTA V, the performance seemed to be a bit worse than my 1070ti. To be fair, it's still pretty good as I'm playing it at 1440p with most of the settings set to their maximum, but the performance dips more and it doesn't feel as smooth. - The driver software. It's okay and is slightly better than it used to be, but it needs a lot of work. For example, there isn't any way to remove a game from the game list. It's also a huge driver download. The not great: - Portal RTX completely refuses to launch. It seems like the Intel drivers may not support every feature that the card tries to use. Some people reported it as somewhat working on a older driver version, but I had no such luck. - While Cemu did have much better performance on the Arc card for me, it also has some minor graphical bugs with a few specific items in the game, but it's pretty minor and is easily ignore-able. - Overclocking. It's just.. vague without any proper indication on what exactly you are changing with the performance slider - You are in a lot of ways, a beta tester for a new product, and the next version will likely be a lot better. My thoughts? For a budget, the A750 is very, very promising after the recent price drop to $250. The performance shouldn't be too much slower than the A770, while being much cheaper. The potential performance on the card is great and if ray tracing is something you are interested in, it seems very capable at it and was clearly something Intel focused their efforts on. Additionally, I don't own many new games that have XeSS or RayTracing support, so I can't provide much input on that outside the 3DMark benchmarks. If you have are okay with potentially having some issues and you have a system recent enough to have resizable bar support, I think it's definitely worth considering it. If you want something that will feel polished and more or less "just work", you should look at an AMD or Nvidia card.

I got a 3070 from a miner who sold it to me for just over 300$. I checked the thermals and everything and it was all pretty much perfect, even the box it came in looked completely new. Buying second hand is a double edged sword, but sometimes you can get something great if you just look for it. All in all, I was able to put together a Ryzen 7 5800x, RTX 3070 build for about 1250$ which isn't really a "budget" build but it's still exceptional for the price especially adding NVMe storage, RAM, AIO and other stuff. I think today, if you wanna build a PC, you should buy everything new, except for the GPU. Buy a second hand high-tier card from a reputable source.

Also just to add a bit to what you said, the best used cards are 2060, 70, and 80 Supers (not great for mining performance); 3060Ti, 3070, 3080, 3080 12GB and 3080Ti - however I would definitely stay away from used 3090s and potentially 3080 10GBs as they've been out the longest and have GDDR6X which seems to have a higher failure rate than the GDDR6 based 60 Ti and 70 - 3080 Tis can be overly expensive so if you can't get one for close to $700 I'd bit the bullet and get a 4070Ti (3080 12GB can also be found for prices very close to 3080 10GB but they are closer to a 3080Ti in performance and also are newest so least mined on. Then from AMD, used 6800, 6800XT, 6900XT or 6950XT and maybe new for the incredible value 6600-6700XT range. I would strongly avoid buying any 10 Series, 400/500 Polaris AMD, Vega 56/64/7, and RX 5700 and 5700XT cards as they've been through either two full mining booms or have higher failure rates.

I have quite a few friends either looking to build a PC, or having built a PC in the last year or two and have been chilling without a GPU since then. When 6700s could be found for £330 one of them got one of those, but GPU options are still not as good as they once were. I've got a friend on a 280X I lent her while waiting for the ~£200 market to improve. Managed to buy one a 1600 + RX 5700 pc for £400 just yesterday, I think a deal like that is pretty much the performance sweet spot for the moment, and has an upgrade path once better GPUs get cheaper, and the 1600 is no longer enough for 1080p. Pity you recommended that specific 6600 lmao, stock will probably go by the time that 280X friend has the money together to buy it.

(Already got me a PSU that is 850W gold rated. And yea, I know it’s more than I need. But that way I won’t need to upgrade in a while. Also, it’s Corsair). And I believe my m.2 is 500gb or 1tb, one or the other. Can’t remember on the top of my head. Also, running a ASUS 1440p monitor as my main monitor and a side monitor that is a ASUS 1080p. Have been wondering about your thoughts regarding Intel's cards. I really want them to be great cards and I think one day they will, it's just a matter of them updating their drivers, which to give them credit they have been doing frequently (recently there was a huge DX9 update). I have more hope for intel getting their act together with their GPUs than I do for AMD ever beating Nvidia, because IMO they seem content to mostly focus on making the chipsets for consoles.
@xFluing

What I find mindblowing is that, as 2PintsMichael said AMD's graphics seem to be cursed. More often than not they offer more value for the price (so far) than nvidia with drivers that are great, especially the software they come with. But you got every "expert" coming out of the woodwork most likely sporting a novideo card claiming how "WELL I TRIED GIVING AMD A CHANCE BUT THE DRIVERS ARE TOO BAD" when what most likely happened is that their friend had one (1) blue screen and thats it. Yes amd drivers are notoriously unstable at launch, but post-launch they have ironed out all the problems. And again its even crazier how in spite of having had worse driver problems on launch than amd intel still caught up insanely quickly and im so confused, even though deep inside i am glad people are giving intel a chance DESPITE the disastrous day 1 drivers, i just wish they've done it with amd until now too.

They kinda already are. In terms of raw horsepower at their price points when they behave, you can't beat them with new cards. An A380 is better than a 1650 and a 6400 (unless you need a low profile, single-slot card), though you're better off buying a 5500XT or a 2060 used unless you want a great encoder. An A770 is better than a 3060/Ti and a 6700. The key word is behave though. Intel has put in a lot of legwork to fix all the launch day problems, but lagging real-world DX11 performance, kinks to work out with DXVK and DX9 and... Arc Control... still keep the cards down. I've had the patience to stick through with my A380, but I can easily understand why someone else would want to save themselves the headache and buy Nvidia instead. And support is still highly limited, so any problems you have will be greeted with, "WOMM" or complete silence. All the problems on launch day and now have driven away most reviewers and people. If it wasn't for the ill will towards Nvidia, I doubt people would be anywhere near as hopeful about Battlemage, and the rumors flying about late last year of AXG getting axed didn't help. Simply put, no one is going to give Intel a second look until Battlemage arrives and they better be on their A-game this time. t. Been looking for a better GPU for several years now, had a GTX 980 that failed me, got recommended RX Vega 56 since it performed as a Vega 64 if you tinkered a little bit but the performance and poor driver's at the time made me swap to a second hand 1080ti which really hurt my pockets but I had finally gotten the performance I was lacking. Now several years and a crypto boom (and downfall) later I'm still on the same graphics card but I've managed to upgrade my CPU from a 2700x to 3800x... and now again to a 5800x3d which I got a very good deal on (Thank you black Friday!) €300 including a 25% electronic tax and I see some ludicrous speeds, especially in E-Sports titles! Which is what I mostly play.. However I've been looking to play some titles with beautiful scenery and it's fine to play at 1080p but I'm in quite desperate need of a good monitor with better colours, the old 144hz I got for about €200-250 when 144hz started to become a staple gaming wise, it's had it's fair share, I've had and swapped several side monitors with my sibling which all have had insanely better colours, although only at 60hz which didn't feel that suitable to game on. So finding something that's noticeably better than the 1080ti I've got while still not having to empty out my wallet sounds to me, a dream that won't be fulfilled in the near future. TL;DR: Been waiting on a price-worthy GPU upgrade since my previous ones failed me.
