HSP Boxer had its challenges in our review and test video. Will some cheap mods and upgrades be enough to make a difference? In our last video, the Boxer could not finish a single of our 6 problems!
Well, this is a budget rig. We've kept the upgrade budget as low as practical. Can it do better with these fixes and changes?
Let's test!

yeah, so, I had to watch the video a couple times before I felt like I could really comment meaningfully. And even after that, there's nothing I can say that you didn't already say better than I could have. Well done, sir. Your work is top notch, as always. I wanted it to be better, I really did. Problems 1 and 2 seemed so promising. And then... failure. Breakage. Disappointment. I'm really surprised that the axle shaft broke. How cheap can those be, to break like that? Not a good sign from HSP. What else did they go cheap on? Not sure I want to find out the hard way with my own money. Those tires, on the other hand, those seem pretty solid. We may need to see those again on something else. Yup, your conclusion nailed it. Wanna go cheap? Get the 136100V2. Worth every penny. BUT. Grab some spare axle shafts, front and rear, and a couple diff carriers, too. My kids have managed to break both TWICE (I still don't know how), so having spares is a must. But it's a capable little crawler that doesn't really need much to be really good.

Nice reply too - I have to agree on the 136100V2 (not that they're so easy to find anymore). Truly a great value budget rig, that one! Cheers :)

This car still has a purpose! You know that one friendly neighbour, that would love to drive with you, but he's a bit annoying sometimes, and you dont really want to engage with him too much... Recommended him that! 😅😂🤣

Awesoome improvements on this my friend! with the new geometry its a total different truck. video quality is always top notch brother! did the sharprer steering angle stress the stock dog bone? might of done p5 if not for that breakage. Nice work!👍👍👍
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah it may not have broken if I didn't increase steering. But really I suspect the heavier wheels and grippy tires did the job there.

I like your budget videos. Your approach to making a cheaper rig better may get more people interested into the hobby that can't afford the best straight away.

Hopefully! Buying used is great too, though that's harder to make videos about where newcomers can get consistent results.

Like the truck very much. Have been driving my bonestock HSP Pangolin for years out and about, no complaints on the quality. You do have to add your own grease for the diffs though. Perhaps as idea, ask Tyler to drive a repaired truck around, see how far the up and coming rc driver can take this truck. Nice big RC-TNT sticker on the roof and go for it! Thank you Craig. Hannes

I was hoping to see a WP1080 ESC as well. That made a world of difference in every crawler that came with a 1040 or 1060. Great job on this truck! Kind of makes me want to order another budget truck and start screwing around with it again.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
I don't know that a 1080 is necessary here, honestly. The 1060 is very good and for a lighter truck like this, even the 1040 has sufficient braking power. But I get where you're coming from!
@FeralRC
@FeralRC Жыл бұрын
@@RCTNT I always felt like it had much better low down control and programmability. I could be wrong about the latter since I never checked to see if the 1060 could be programmed.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Well yes, the 1080 is programmable, of course. My point was what do you really need to program for this truck? From a performance perspective you already have sufficient drag brake..

Well, after all, there is a point at which it really is worth to just get a better rig... Still, good to find out through you. Some days we discover a new value rig and others, we get this 😂

Another good test of this, and its certainly better. Shame that axle broke! As far as the 1040 esc is concerned, im sure we've had this conversation before, but was it you that said you were going to try the ISDT ESC70? Ive fixed both of mine now, having had both Bluetooth modules fail, just after the warranty ran out, but it was only a £15 fix, and theyre now both working perfectly. 👍🏻

This is an interesting project. Too bad the axle didn't hold up. The tires performed well. It appears the seller put more effort into the appearance of the body and not the mechanicals.

The axle broke because of the extreme angle it binds with the cup... just nip the bump stop tab and leave the axle stock otherwise is too much angle and it binds... same with any other cars that use dog bone or snaps or falls out
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 11 ай бұрын
I did test it first but you'll notice the break occurred on the bounce under throttle. Bumped it further than it's able to go. A stopper at the point would have been wise :)
@RcTimes2055
@RcTimes2055 11 ай бұрын
@@RCTNT well this stuff happens the bump didnt help because made it flex more under load from the motor all combined boom... cvd`S make more sense than dog bone and thats why he dosent have a good angle... makes no sense a crawler needs angle and they still use dog bone sistem... the mod u did is good if u change that to cvd`s
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 11 ай бұрын
Agreed. May do that at some point. For now, replacement dogbones were cheap at least!

haha "give it to someone I don't like" ....I bought a really cheap wood lathe for ONE project and it was a piece of crap. It didn't do one thing well. A neighbour expressed interest in buying it as he wanted to try out wood turning. He offered me $150 for it I said "no, you can have it, I won't sell it to you because you'll hate me for ripping you off. For $150 it's a piece of shit, and you'll bitch. For free?
