Fact is: Reolink (811a at least) do not support multiple streams, meaning you can chose between network-overload or bad image quality. It would be necessary to be able to switch based on events - yet exactly that does not work. You really should highlight that in the video. I have seen lots of comments online (at synology) pointing that out.

Awesome to see you use Reolink as well :) I was doubting of using UniFi cameras but after seeing a comparison on KZfaq I went to Reolink (field of view and nightvision is much better). I don't currently use the Synology for it but use BlueIris on a VM (keep in mind it eats CPU power). Awesome combo! I know this is a good solution for any company. Yes there are some DOA's but replace it and for the pricing on these it's not an issue.

I usually buy the junction box to install these. Making a hole big enough to push the entire pig tail through to the inside of the building appears to be what you are doing here, I just prefer making a smaller hole in the wall and it is easier to do weather sealing on that hole if it can be fixed inside the junction box (Canada winters beat your Michigan winters). Just have to order the right junction box for the camera you are buying from Reolink as there are 2 variations. Also need to add 2-3 weeks for delivery since they ship from Hong Kong (maybe add another week these days as cargo is delayed with less flights going to China/Hong Kong)

I've used Reolink for years. Their software, the video quality and the cheap prices sell it for me. I want allot of local storage so I install the software on an old server and have about 28TB of redundant storage at the moment. Out of 18 cameras, I've only had one fail after about 3 years of use and I dont think it was the camera. Cool overview video. I would like something like that Synology if it had the storage i wanted.

I find the Reolinks are good quality, as long as you have decent light. Build quality is quite good and they survive in wild weather generally. Where I find Reolink falls down badly is low light and night conditions. The IR night vision is so blurry and smeary that you cannot recognise people unless they are virtually on top of the camera. Bright light conditions though, they are great. **Did you find the optical zoom sometimes randomly changed on the Reolinks? I had a few Reolinks where the zoom and focus would just randomly change, causing blurry pictures. I use a DS918+ to do my home security, but I went for Dahua cameras. They are a little bit more expensive than Reolink, but the night vision was important for me.

As in, camera covers driveways and of course part of road, they want it to record people walking up driveway, but not trigger with all the cars driving up and down the road :) And if so can it be set as multi-blind zones in that one camera?

We have multiple ReoLink cameras. The product and picture quality are decent and reasonably price. The mobile application for ReoLink does its job well, with minimal delay. Our problems with ReoLink system is their NVR software is not very user friendly when it comes to searching for an event and downloading the video in a suitable format. Our BIGGGG problem with ReoLink is their support. They are entirely in China, which means you can only communicate via email, and you will only get responses in the middle of the night (time difference) that are in broken English. To their credit, they do try to help, but it is extremely frustrating and slow anytime you have to get assistance from ReoLink.

@Zomby_Woof
@Zomby_Woof 4 жыл бұрын
What's you use case for using analog? Are you trying to meld with an existing installation, or looking for greater physical security of your video feed? Analog does impose certain limitations. There are some very nice cameras available that support hdcvi at up to 4k with the general features you're looking for, but I'm not seeing auto tracking as a listed feature. If that's a required, rather than a desired feature, I would get thee to a specialist. Trying to get advanced features in an analog world limits the selection greatly, and jacks the cost way up. Auto tracking is an odd beast in any event - it relies on the vendor successfully melding together several features, and it's hard to know in advance how well it will work in the field due to all the variables. It would be a shame to shell out top dollar for a camera that *almost* does what you need. If you can incorporate an ip camera into your design, it does open up a much wider selection of cameras with more advanced features at lower cost, so if you are trying to work around a minor hassle combining ip and analog, you might be better served just dealing with a mixed system. But do talk to a pro if you're serious - you don't want bad info from a sales guy who means well but rarely runs into your specific use case and is relying on sales collateral.

Nice video and especially timely given the poor choices being made by Ubiquity lately. One key point you left out is every system has limitations on the max number of cameras depending on the NAS/NVR performance, resolution, codecs/compression in the camera, and frame rates. It’s something many don’t realize until they buy a bunch of hardware and find out they can only run a couple cameras at 4K at even 15 FPS. So they end up running at 1080 or even 720 resolution so they can get a decent frame rate with say 8 cameras which means buying 4K cameras was a waste of money or they should have bought a higher end NAS/NVR. The NAS/NVR manufacturers often make the specs obscure in this regard. But a $500 NAS is NOT going to simultaneously record 8 cameras at true 4K and 30 FPS.

No, they don't charge for UniFi Protect, but they charge you for the device it runs on. With its predecessor, UniFi Video, you could install it on your own hardware. So you're now left with the devices UBNT offers and those are anemic and limited to only a handful of cameras with no redundancy whatsoever. For most people UniFi Video is out of the question, even though it's still usable-how would you recommend something to a client that is already EOL? TL;DR: UBNT really managed to shoot themselves in both feet with this one, but they've gotten pretty good at that. If you get a ReoLink IP camera without the ReoLink NVR, how to you determine the IP address of the Reolink camera?
@auditocanarsie7355
@auditocanarsie7355 Жыл бұрын
Okay, I was able to find the IP address of the ReoLink IP camera with a workaround. I plugged my PoE switch into a router. The ReoLink Client immediately found the Camera, which allowed my to Set it up & then change the IP address to a static IP. The first few times I changed the IP address to Static & clicked save, I just got a message saying it failed but then after waiting a wile it saved it and gave me a succeeded message. ⚠I still would prefer not doing it this way if possible because I don't normally have a PoE switch plugged into my router but at least I can test out this ReoLink camera. I do love the 4x optical zoom 🔎. I see what you mean about that.

If you decided to use them, please put them on a separate VLAN completely isolated and with no access to the internet. If you cannot put them on a VLAN, you can give them a false gateway IP so that they cant talk to the internet but I wouldn't recommend that over the VLAN solution. I do that (VLAN Isolation) with all IoT devices and surveillance stuff. And especially devices you don't trust, like, chinese cameras for example. As I only have

I purchased a new ReoLink PLC-811A PoE IP camera. I would like to add it to Synology Surveillance Station. In order to do this I need to know the camera’s IP address. I can not find the PLC-811A's IP address. I have the PLC-811A connected to a PoE switch which is connected to a macbook laptop. I installed the ReoLink Client and attempted to add the device with the UID number (which I copied from a label on the camera itself) but I get an error message stating "ERROR Failed to add device. Please check your network and ensure the UID is correct". I believe the issue is that my macbook's IP address is not in the same subnet as the PLC-811A's IP address. I need to know the IP address of the PLC-811A in order to correct this.

Unifi Protect is seriously let down by lack of redundancy. No fault tolerant Drives or network. That was the good thing with Unifi Video that you could install on enterprise hardware and get it a lot more resilient. I've got both Unifi Video and Unifi Video at home and I don't know which way I am going to go. I have a VPN so can get to home network so I can use this OK to veiw videos etc. the CCTV is all on s seperate network seperated by firewall from the rest of the network.

Many of the Reolink cameras are rebadged Dahua's - that why they are high quality and low cost. Why not buy Dahua then? There are two options with Dahua: 1> Buy semi-direct from The Guy in Honk Kong who sells only genuine Dahua gear and provides warranty coverage and limited tech info, and you own the support in exchange for very low cost. 2> Buy from US reseller who will do the install and hold your hand - at three times the cost. Reolink sort of splits the difference - you pay slightly more than the direct cost, but way less that what a reseller will charge you, and you get acceptable support. Don't get me wrong, the resellers are pros who know the products inside and out, and can do an install in a fraction of the time even a knowledgeable do-it-yourselfer can pull off. But if you're on a tight budget and don't mind learning a whole new skill set, go for Dahua. If you want to be able to get some sort of support beyond the very basics, go Reolink or one of the other rebadged brands. Note: Only a subset of Reolinks are Dahua hardware.
