A spot of long exposure photography in Greater Manchester, using filters that the last time I mentioned them by name, were labelled 'Sh!t'.
But it ain’t about a brand name, it’s how well you use the gear that counts.
Pick up a copy of my new book 'Peak District Collection 1': letsclickphotography.co.uk/shop
Links to gear used:
Manfrotto 190X Aluminium 4 Section Tripod with XPRO Ball Head: amzn.to/4aW7b5a
Zomei 10 Stop ND Filter (Square): amzn.to/48SSptQ
(the 3 & 6 stop are currently out of stock but worth keeping an eye out for)
Canon EF-S 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens (Wide Angle for APS-C): amzn.to/41XNXrF
Hoya circular polariser (select your thread based on your lens diameter): amzn.to/3FNckOp
(I use a Formatt Hitech Firecrest poloriser which forms part of the holder system however I used this model for years and got good results)
The Firecrest holder system is actually by a comapny called Formatt HiTech who no longer make this particular holder system.

Another great video Dave, thank you. Brand snobs - need to justify to themselves the amount of money they’ve spent on something that isn’t in reality any better, in fact at the end of the day there’s every likelihood they’re made in exactly the same factory, just different branding. Love those long exposure shots with the trams. Cheers mate 👍🏻

Great video Dave, as you know all my gear is budget gear, so it's nice to see the excellent results you get with those zomei filters. If you hadn't said whose they were, nobody would have known. The shot at 1:55 was probably my favourite of the set with the trams. Have a great week.

Thanks mate. I'm more than happy to use cheap gear when I can, if it's good enough to do the job, then it's good enough, budget or not.

Fun video mate! As always I love seeing the sights around Manchester, such a photogenic city. Love those tram shots...reminds me of doing train light trails in Florida (which I can't do in WV - no commuter trains here). And of course, you know how I love those long exposures you've done of the iron men at Crosby Beach and Mary's Shell, some of my favorite images you've done. Always a great watch pal, off to check out the updated website! Hope you are well, let's plan a chat for the end of January, early February!

thanks mate, yeah wasn't the best day for great images to be fair, very impromptu visit.....was the thought of the 90 minute drive into the PD vs the 20mins to get here very much the motivation rather than the shots. Thanks for checking out the stuff, and for picking up a copy, yeah sounds good, will be in touch.

I use all kinds of filters - the Amazon Basic ones are actually not bad! It always amuses me how much some people obsess over micro differences in the quality of glass in a filter, but will have complete disregard for composition or any other artist elements of the scene they're capturing. None of that here, obviously - great shots as always. I liked the editing too - some liked like night. 👌

Very true mate, you could expand that to many more pieces of gear too. I'd happily use Amazon, had a poloriser of theirs a few years back, until I got the one included with my holder system, and it worked perfectly fine, no issues at all.

Great video fella. If the gear works, the gear is good.

Some fantastic architecture you have up there mate, really liked the long exposure images with the trams they were really nice. If you had not mentioned anything about the filter brand i am sure nobody would of even questioned the quality of the images , brand snobs, i know i have been in the past but there are some great companies out there producing quality gear at a fraction of the well known brands with little to know marketing budget. Hope your well, take care mate.

Cheers mate. TBH way back when I last mentioned them on here I was far more bothered by comments than I am these days and didn't understand that by replying I was just inviting more.....lessons learnt. You're right though, at no point since that vid has anyone mentioned anything other than positive about the many shots through them. I was tempted to try out those filters you had from K&F....I got an email in November ish inviting me to try, and a magnetic system is appealing.......but we had a disagreement about a video review I did about one of their tripods so it never came about.....bulky holder system it continues to be then!

@@LetsClickPhotography never tried a K&F tripod but have to say so far the magnetic filters have been pretty good from what I am able to tell anyway and at a fraction of the cost of the Lee filters they seem a pretty good deal. 👍
