First of all. It is nice to see, that some people out there still enjoy CD`s and are reviewing CD Players at an affordable price, that have a decent quality. (thumbs up)! I still own a collection of nearly 1000 CD`s and want to keep them. I don´t care, that some dealers say, that the quality of CD reproduction ist not as good as streaming and CD`s will not exist any more in the near or far future. I do not agree with them. In some cases i made the experience that, for example, the soundstage can be wider and the recording seems to be more ariy on CD´s. But of course it also depends on the quality of the streaming service. I will not forget that. I remember that in the mid 80`s many many music fans raved about the CD music reproduction. They said, records will be dead in a few years. So now we all see what happened. Records are more popular than ever but also quiet expensive. And i think, that Cd´s also will exist in the future. At least in a limited way and number.

1000 Cd's? Wow that's pretty impressive, i still love CD and LP, liquid music is comfortable and doesn't matter if the quality is better or not cause since is missing of this special feeling between choosing what you want listening for, open the box, read the cover and finally play it, is just something magic that streaming music will never have!thx for comment.

🤗 I am watching basically to support the channel… and you make good points for having a CD player 👍 Personally I have a small collection of CDs about 400 and I purchased a Sony UBP -X 800 model 2 Blu-ray player on sale for $175 😁🤗… sounds great, it’s a good time to be in AUDIOPHILE 😁😍😍😍

Concerning the sound of the players, I think what you're hearing more is the difference in DACs. I would have liked to hear your impressions of a side by side comparison going into a quality stand alone DAC.

I am considering one of these for my highly resolving system. As I will be using them as a transport only with my Chord Qutest DAC, did you test them via their digital outputs? If they sound the same I might as well just get the cheaper S3 instead.

I still have the Yamaha CDS-300 which released in 2012 but I bought it a few years ago. Do you think CD Box S3 is much better? Considering the sound tuning style and the build quality like circuitry and layout inside.

Unfortunately never tested the CDS-300, but only from specs point of view, yes the S3 look better.

@@katy-cat Yamaha specs are a little bit poor unfortunately, they don't specify so much about it, if u look the S3 u can see ±0.15 db in the frequency response, something not clear with the CDS300, anyway i will not focus too much on specs and if you have the possibility to test and compare the 2 products just let me know what you think about it👍🏽

I believe the entry level S3, besides looks, is a good all-in-one solution. But that remote...really? Personally I would always opt for a CD player/transport with optical out, because DACs are improved every time. Usually, budget CD players skimp on the internal DAC. For example, when one buys the (budget) Audiolab CDT (no DAC inside and around the same pricepoint as the S3) and connect to a separate DAC (Topping for example), it most likely outperforms the DS3 in terms of soundquality and for about the same price. That said, I like Projects compact design and for an all-in-one solution as it seems a good deal. Thank you for the review, I have to do some catching up I noticed 😄

Yes design is really compact, maybe one of the smallest out there? I didn't check but for those who have space problems will fit perfectly.Remote is probably the only downside but as far i know they sell also a better Remote to be purchased separately..thx for comment.

Musical Fidelity, for example, does the same. They use a cheap plastic remote, that nearly looks like a toy, for an 7000-8000 Euro amplifier. Only to save a few cents in production. I don`t get it.

@@tommy-be-good6580 I'm with that. I get it that budget gear needs to cut corners, although that doesn't mean a remote has to be flimpsy, imo. When I spend big money on gear, the remote is kind of a business card 😄

Pro-Ject CD BOX S3 não serve de transport na prática, por sair o sinal digital( 44.1khz) justamente ao mesmo tempo do som. Isso falha a cabeça de música a ser tocada na maior das vezes. Também pula o som, que não agrada nada ao audiófilo. Por isso que não recomendo a ninguém...mas se vc quer estilo deste modelo é outra história...

Eu possuo CD BOX S3. Ele se move muito esdrúxulo, porque não obedece ao comando de remoto. Não funciona inversão de cores em display. Responde ao comando de remoto de outro aparelho de som ( p/ex. amplificador) deixando desligar CD BOX em estado parado e deixa avançar música tocando em CD. Fácil desligar e muito difícil ligar de novo, porque não responde ao remoto. Mesmo depois de terminar última música em CD, ele recomeça sozinho mesmo sem comando. Muito difícil retirar CD entupido quando houve problema, não lendo mais informações. Só repete Loading/ no CD. Quase impossível colocar CD na boca da máquina durante modo de no CD ao puxarem da tomada o cabo de alimentação. Tem muito mais coisa esquisita. A julgar de tudo isso , conclui que existe comando escondido aqui dentro do aparelho.

I would not recommend this cd player. I have the first generation of the Pro-Ject Mai CD bought years ago. It is awesome. And built like a tank. I decided to upgrade to the newer model, and it is a piece of junk, tried two different units. both were the same. Very poor slot loading mechanism and the controls are now cheap and work when they want to work. It is not a good unit. I love my older unit, but these newer units are built on the cheap and are not reliable.

I've used many slot loading drives for the past 10 years (and cheaper made ones than the one inside the S3, like video game console drives, the Wii, Wii U, various Xboxes and PS3/PS4) and I never had any problems with the loading mechanism scratching my CDs/DVDs/Blurays. Maybe some player do scratch discs but I guess the vast majority don't.
