Never over grease a bushing when you see the grease squeezing out. That means you broke the seal so your introducing the element your trying to prevent. The little nut fitting is called an Alemite

Video was great, I just changed my links this afternoon and it totally changed the handling of my 2007 F150. I had to add grease as you mentioned; that was no issue though. The one thing I would mention is to install both new links, before tightening either side. My experience was that by tightening one side before the other, the tension on the sway bar would not allow enough give to install the opposite link; once I loosened the other link; they both went in with no problem. I purchased the heavy duty links even though I only use my truck for casual use. I am happy to say I did this job without putting out a ton of cash to a shop; just parts and sweat equity.

Not sure if you will see this....but I'm going to give it a try. Is your truck a 2WD? Mine is and I am having a horrible time finding the links for it. Have tried looking for just the grommets or bushings...whatever they are called. But it seems everything I find is for 4WD. If yours is 2WD, do you remember where you found your links? Thanks for the help if you can. Jesus bless. Or if anyone else would like to chime in where they found some for 2WD.

I drove my truck up on ramps ..took both off and put both on at the same time..took my large pair of vice grips put them on the sway bar and moved it that way..took about 30 minutes.. The new ones do have grease fittings..the rubber bushings were all that was wrong with them...ford using recycled rubber..again..see you on the next one Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

To ensure proper tightening of your nuts, you probably should of torqued your bolts down to proper torque specs...89 ft lbs on top and 66 ft lbs on the bottom. Great video by the way. Also, I use a Milwaukee M18 fuel cordless 1/2 impact to remove lug nuts...makes it fast and easy.

Tore my cv boot doing struts. A lot of guys remove that lower strut bolt in order to wiggle the old cv axle out and the new one in. Looking at this, with the sway bar link out, it looked like there would be clearance to get the axle out and new one in. Would you agree or am I missing something?
@BudgetMechanicHawaii

Zach Dennis I can't say for sure without looking at it but I always have to remove lower strut mounting bolts to get axles out so I would say you might have to also. Let me know if you figure it out!

So I replaced my links as well on my 06. My question is these new links that bought had like a squishy feel to them like nylon compared to the rubber old ones I had on before. Did I get the wrong ones or are these better? They are MOOG brand.

What happens if you don’t grease it? I’m assuming that the grease is to prevent squeaking/long term wear? I don’t have a grease gun. Will it be okay to drive the truck without grease for a few days until I can get a grease gun to grease it up? Also what kind of grease do I use?
@BudgetMechanicHawaii
@BudgetMechanicHawaii 5 жыл бұрын
tkdjoe79 you should be ok without grease for a little bit but I wouldn’t leave it too long. It lubricates the joint which pivots under a lot of load. Without grease it will wear out and start rattling. I would get moly grease, tho lithium is a good second-best (a lot of guns come with lithium)

I'd recommend use use some WD-40 or penetrating out on the the lugs. We call the 12 point sockets the "12 sided touch of death. You risk rounding a lug nut, screw the socket, get a new one. You every tried getting rounded bolt off? A rounded bolt that big? Boy, getya some WD-40 and you hose everything down, slama beer and sip the next one, When you come back, everything just comes off without a fight.

I just replaced my links today and torqued to spec but there is a lot of play between the bushings I would think you shouldn't be able to spin the washers what am I doing wrong?
@BudgetMechanicHawaii
@BudgetMechanicHawaii 5 жыл бұрын
No there should be space to spin washers. Are the rubber bumpers evenly squashed? you may need to lift or lower your control arm so there's not uneven pressure on the upper or lower bumper. Does that make sense?

Noticed mine are either missing or falling apart. What exactly do these bumpers do? Without looking at them, how would one know they are bad?
@BudgetMechanicHawaii
@BudgetMechanicHawaii 5 жыл бұрын
A. Diaz they attach to the sway bar which keeps the truck from excessively leaning during turns. Some people take out the links but you would probably notice the leaning. Otherwise when going bad, they make a lot of noise when start/stopping and going over bumps. Visual inspection is best

Budget Mechanic Hawaii Taking the Links out would provide a smoother ride, however would also create camber inner and outer tire wear because of the increase in suspension travel

Never use a gun to tighten lugs terrible practice even just to snug em. Always hand tighten and the use a breaker bar drop vehicle then torque to spec in crisscross pattern. I've seen time and time again cross threading and snapped studs so unless you are a technician and are comfortable (which I still do not agree with) I DO NOT RECOMMEND a shade tree or diy mechanic tighten any bolt on a vehicle with a gun. Every 5-20 min job is 1 snapped stud away from becoming a 4 or 5 day ordeal.
