Should of won an Oscar. This performance was so brilliant and unique. Jackie was able to combine a funny goof sheriff , but a sheriff that was actually a good competent smart police officer nonetheless. It makes his character so believable and likable. I think people overlook this aspect of sheriff Buford T Justice. There is no one that could duplicate this performance.

they did a variation of that bit in the Sopranos that was hilarious years later. Couple wise guys go over to a Russian guy's house and end up killing him, then they're trying to get rid of the body, and the guy isn't dead and runs off. They're trying to call somebody on the phone and the phone line keeps cutting out. The guy on the other end of the line informs them "He killed 16 Chechen Rebels singlehandedly... he was with the Interior Ministry....." And when he hangs up, the one wise guy says "You're not gonna believe this. He killed 16 Checkoslavakians. The guy was an Interior Decorator!" the other guy says "His house looked like shit......"

I remember watching Smokey and the Bandit as a kid. Now when I see it, I realize it was Jackie Gleason who made this movie. Who else could say "Sumbitch" like him?
@doughesson9 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Teeselink The fun fact is that Jackie Gleason wasn't really confortable with all the cussing,even though they let him adlib something like 80% of his lines.

No actor/comedian could have played Buford T Justice like Jackie Gleason. According to Burt Reynolds; Jackie adlibed many of his lines and consulted throughout the movie at the request of Burt.

I live in Oklahoma and everytime we visit family in Alabama.People there are always so friendly,the culture of the south has that southern hospitality. And most of all,they know what respect is to their elders.Not like the kids are today,I was raised to say yes sir and no mam when talking to someone. People in the south have always been very respectful.😊😊

Jackie Gleason said this was the most fun he ever had in his career, he said he really was Sheriff Justice, it was his inner personality, he also said it was hard for the film crew to not crack up and laugh on set, Gleason was allowed to ad-lib, a great deal of his lines, he said the scripts were not very funny but that he could fix it to where they would be funny, boy could he,.
