I do a 1 year review of the Diamondback Tonneau cover and the newly installed headache rack. The cover is made of diamond plated aluminum not steel as I said in error in this video!

would love to install a cover like this on my pickup, but it looks like the center where it folds open would be right over my 5th wheel hitch in my bed. not sure if they have any models that open in a different place.

There is a bit if an indent up top that goes above top of box a few inches (but not through whole cover, just staggered trusses), but yeah it may not be compatible with that. They have several models that you can explore on website.

You wouldn't be able to haul your 5th wheel trailer with a tonneau cover on. That being said, this cover removes easily so you could just remove it when you do want to haul your 5th wheel trailer.

Ha! Nah. Still an import in South Korea, and way more expensive than in the US or Canada. Crazy tariffs here. Also the parking spaces here are ridiculously tiny...it's one of, if not the most densely populated places on earth and every idiot thinks they need a car even if they don't have kids. I mean, you could probably walk from one end of the country to the other in less than two days, but driving a car "proves" that you're not poor or perhaps that you're a "real man". Anway...once we move to the US, I'm looking at those trucks.

very cool. ive gotten all my guns/ammo, food, gear..etc at a comfortable level. now im going to start working on my 99 jeep wrangler for bugout. I think ill start with a small (but practical) 3 inch lift, a winch and weld in a rack to hold a few ammo cans. then maybe invest in some fairly decent mud tires (with a spare)

I started my setup almost identical and love it. I was always a Toyo fan and the family has toyotas so getting into a 2017 TRD OR was an easy decision. Just happens to be the same Magnetic gray. I was inspired by the first video you did on the Diamondback HD and love it. Add a couple of mods to make it family functional as well, got the Pop-n-Lock for the tailgate and makes everyday use a breeze keeping the cover always locked. Load bar with cargo net inside for the small stuff in the bed makes the wife happy that groceries don't slide around. Only wish on improvement would be the price, it was a bit painful but in the end you get what you pay for, one heavy duty a$$ cover . Just looking for a way now to secure some kayaks or even a RTT and not completely mess up the functionality of the lifting panels. Took some inspiration from other youtuber such as Last Line of Defense as well, similar setup with racks on it. If you get around to other mods or addons for the truck would love to see them as well. Keep up the great work .

Hey CP, I would consider BF Goodrich KO2 tires in place of Wrangler Duratracs. Better longevity and stopping power on ice & snow. The Duratracs argument is strong but better on larger vehicles IMO. If you are considering a lift still.... The old man EMU by ARB is exceptional on these trucks. Decide on the lift before purchasing tires. New subscriber in Strathmore AB

I'm guessing that, with the headache rack shown, side-loading two 4x4's would be problematic on a long bed truck. What do you suppose the bottom leg of the outer side braces measure? 6 - 8 inches? (15.24 - 20.32 cm) Just curious.

There's a couple issues i have with this system and even the vehicle as a whole. The more you carry, the worse the gas mileage. If you are in a shtf situation, you may not be able to get gas as much as you need with such a heavy vehicle. While i like the cover and the guard against the windows, i feel like that could be more efficiently achieved by having a closed in car or van with a rack for bicycles. Just my opinion though

I'm in the market for a Diamondback cover currently. I have the exact same truck that you do, 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 Longbed. Same color too. I had considered getting one of the less expensive and less secure Tonneau covers but a lot of research has led me to this steel one. One thing I'm wondering about is the MPG loss with a cover like this one. I do a lot of commuting in my truck and with a small lift it's already maxing at about 19MPG highway. Would it drop my MPG significantly to get a Diamondback cover like this without the headache rack? Thanks!

I was thinking of ordering the tonneau from one of a dealer here in canada which is located in Andrews, manitoba. I don't have any experienced ordering anything from united states, any advise please. Thanks. or maybe I will go to bellingham, washington there is a dealer also there but I don't how much I am allowed to buy in the U.S. and also how the tax will work at the border coming back. Great video. I've been wondering when you're going to start doing more videos on your vehicle. I read below about that Line -X and yes, that Line-X is some good stuff and will last forever. If you're going to keep a vehicle long term, it's well worth it in more ways than one. What kind of winches are you thinking about? I have a 12,000 lbs. Mile Marker hydraulic winch and I will NEVER go back to electric. I bought mine back in 2004 I believe it was and I have used it more times than I can remember down here in the swamps of Louisiana, and its been on two different vehicles, and it's still going like it was brand new. It is heavy, around a 100 pounds or so, but if you replace the wire rope, you can drop at least 20 pounds off of that. It's also 100% duty cycle, as long as the power steering fluid doesn't over heat, so a cooler might be needed if you plan on doing a lot of winching, and really, recovery and winching is a skill that needs to be learned. Too many just buy a winch and really have no clue about mire factors, angles, friction factor or anything else. Here's a really good quick Army guide to down load and and print and keep in the vehicle. asktop.net/wp/download/GTA09-14-002.pdf I did replace the 100 foot wire rope with 125 feet of 3/8" AmSteelBlue. Much lighter weight, stronger, it doesn't retain any kinetic energy and it floats, again think swamps. The down side is, the vehicle has to be running for the winch to work, but an electric winch will kill a battery in no time of a vehicle that's not running anyway. Plus standard batteries and charging systems really do not last long with a long heavy current draw of an electric winch. So, it's a horse a piece I guess. It's just one of those things that's built so well, that you buy it, and then you hand down to your son. Keep up the great work.

Joey Salazar Preserve the hinges and cover with Ballistol. Read the history of Ballistol. It was invented for the German army to protect the rifles pistols leather and more. I use it on my Tonneau cover the oil beads up the when it rains and keeps it from not fading.Wash the cover let it dry then rub it down with Ballistol. Ebay Amazon or and place that sells firearms should have it. Dicks Sporting Goods. Buy the non aerosol. You get the nice thick oil. eBay about $18.00 for 14oz can. It goes a long way because of the thickness.

The wafer locks on the cover are, by far, the weakest link in security. Even a total novice can rake them open with a couple improvised lock picks in no time.
@CanadianPrepper
@CanadianPrepper 7 жыл бұрын
Indeed lockpicking is the bane of all fortifications. I would like this aspect of the design to be improved. The are awkwardly positioned and require generous tension, so I wouldn't go as far as to say a "novice" in "no time" but yeah anyone with some time and some jigglers could likely penetrate. That said most the overwhelming majority of modern criminals quite frankly are not that smart.

I question the strength of these: ok the HD cover will hold 1600lbs of downward force, and you see these loaded with ATVs that have strapping connected to the cover tie downs. Will the lock rods hold under the upward force that is generated on an off-road/rough terrain situation? Would be nice to hear from Diamondback on how this has been tested.

I laugh at the proverbial "bug out vehicles" and the ego stroking that the owners of said vehicles give each other. Within a short time fuel will be at a premium, roads (highway, surface street, back road, dirt road) will become clogged with dead vehicles, parts will break, etc. I seriously hope that folks who plan on hitting the road can walk long distances, because soon after SHTF you'll be doing this; leaving your precious bug out vehicle -- now a pile of future rusting scrap metal -- (the same goes for your quads, enduros, and dirt bikes) and the myriad of gear piled in it behind to hike away with whatever you can carry on your back, or in a cart if you are lucky enough to find/have one. And if you do somehow manage to keep your vehicle running, it will become a rolling target. So you better learn to walk walk walk, little prepper, walk walk walk.....
@CanadianPrepper
@CanadianPrepper 7 жыл бұрын
I agree that they are only temporary solutions I say "bug out vehicle" somewhat tongue in cheek because this is primarily my everyday use/ work truck that would double as a G.O.O.D vehicle if need be due to its offroad capability, reliability (Toyota FTW!) and all the rest. The Diamondback cover is very compatible with the intent of preppers (not just doomsday) but for everyday use and security.

Pariah Sojourner: OK, so what is your solution?
@PariahSojourner
@PariahSojourner 6 жыл бұрын
@124 - Simple, only take with you or keep in your car or truck what you can carry or don't mind leaving behind. Imho, one the most important things you can do to get ready for a SHTF bug-out/not coming home situation is to be in shape and used to walking long distances with a load.
