This episode is essentially a Part 2 for the previous episode, which was focused on golden orb-weavers. Here, we take a look at two additional genera that belong to the same subfamily (Nephilinae), Nephilengys and Herennia. These are relatively obscure spiders, especially when compared to the rather well known golden orb-weavers, but they are incredibly fascinating nonetheless.

Talking about weird spiders, I've seen quite a few green spiders. Green seems to be a rather rare colour in spiders.

Loved the video. I recently saw a video where you had a go at Coyote Peterson. What do you think of him letting creatures sting or bite him and then screaming like a maniac? Is he really in so much pain?
@Gloriousturtlechan
@Gloriousturtlechan Жыл бұрын
You cannot really say. Everyone's pain limit is different and people react differently to pain. I am sure for entertainment purposes he definitely is hamming in up. But some of those stings are very painful.

He’s American. Of course he’s dramatising it. It’s what the Americans do!

I have a hunch he’s exaggerating, but that was never a particularly substantial factor in my criticism of Peterson, mostly due to the subjectivity of pain. My main issues with him are sensationalism and misleading information.

@@scrimmo "It's what the Americans do." Yeah, coyote's definitely exaggerating but it has nothing to do with his nationality.

Of all the arthropods he got bitten/stung by on his "show", I've only experienced the not-so-affectionate kiss of the toe-biter's rostrum. Did it hurt? Yes, quite a lot. Did it make me roll around in agony? No, and I was a kid. So either he's overreacting or he's the worst possible person to be taking those bites/stings

Not Australian but have you heard of Mastophora Gasteracanthoides? There is little to no info I can find on them Totally alien looking and some old rumors about having some seriously toxic venom. I'd love to hear what you can find out!
@BugsandBiology
@BugsandBiology Жыл бұрын
Haven’t heard of that species specifically, but I seriously doubt it has potent venom, seeing as it’s an Araneid (orb-weaver).
@the_fractured_mind
@the_fractured_mind Жыл бұрын
@@BugsandBiology Yeah any info on it is very scarce. In one of my 15YO Arachnid guides it mentioned something about its venom being potentially significant. I need to find the book and see where they cited that from. Either way an extremely strange looking spider!!!

Good you continue this series. One question. I understand why you use this medieval type of music but I must say after watching so many videos of yours it's really getting tideous. Maybe its due to different cultural experiences but it has the same effect like that music in chinese restaurants. Once it's ok, but everytime it becomes hardly bearable, it could make you asleep which I won't like to do when I'm watching videos. Also it sometimes makes you harder to understand because of the background music. There doesn't need to be horror music instead - how about just no music. It's not needed for these documentaries and at least not all the time.

I live right next to a highway, and background noise can be really obnoxious when it’s not masked by music. The music choice itself mostly stems from me being really into Tolkien, whose books are written in a medieval setting. Problem is, sometimes the music can seem quieter during editing, and then turn out pretty loud once the video is complete. And this was one of those cases.
