I believe Buick is the best American car; best in style and best in quality.

This is a very very rare car. You almost NEVER see a Park Avenue trim Electra in coupe form from the 1977-1979 years. I see quite a few Park Avenue sedans but never the coupes. That baby blue is to die for on this car. Other than those paint blemishes this car is gorgeous.

Dam! What a beautiful throw back to a time when luxury, power and style was how American cars were made!

America should go back to these style cars but with a modern twist. Bring back the chrome the hood ornaments and chrome bumpers and details of the 70s and 80s all the newer cars lack the character of the cars of yesteryear.

These cars are so nice and are definitely under appreciated. "Elegant" is the word that comes to mind when I see this. I remember when these were regularly driving around. The 403 is definitely a great engine to have in one of these - the biggest you could get in 1978. Buicks were considered to be good cars and it was a well respected brand back then. Just fix the paint on the trunk - you'll be good to go!

Specifically, a 1978 2-door model depicted here. The '78 was much better-looking, especially in the rear, than the '77 model which seems to steal the spotlight whenever these cars are discussed. The wrap-around taillights with the filtered white spots (filtered to glow red until the car was put in reverse) was one of the last great styling touches of the '70s, and in my opinion blew anything of the '80s into the weeds. The '79, though, was *the* best-looking of the three years, especially the 2-door models, which still had a streamlined greenhouse as opposed to the boxy greenhouse of the 4-door models. I used to have one, a silver "Limited" trim (people from back in the day may snicker at that, remembering "Limited to *what?* ") with red-velour interior and a Buick V-8 (not all of them had Buick engines), and I have to say I thought that car had a more elegant, more stylish look than even the Lincolns of that year (and I am very favorably biased towards Lincolns). It looked even better after I had added a few subtle trim pieces to it: Namely, a '79+ shield on the trunk lid, just above the keyhole, a starboard-side rear-view mirror (which back then was an optional extra that mine did not originally have), and reproduced "Electra 225" nameplates done in the cursive-scriptwork of the plates of '67 thru '69, the last being so people would see the answer to their snarky question before they even asked it. I miss that car; if I had a chance to get another, I probably would...but as an addition to my current '66 Lincoln, not as a replacement.

Have had one from 1989 to 1994. The car I drove the longest, 50.000 miles with no issues. White with white landau roof and red interior. Purchased and exported to germany from an Arizona car dealer, was his wife's car with 27,000 miles. got 16-17 mpg. I miss that car every year more. Greets from Germany

The peeling paint is not a sign of rust but the results of the metal having a high amount of phosferous in the stamping process. This prevented the paint and clear coat from sticking to the metal. Had a 78 Pontiac that I had to have repainted in 1980. Paint peeled right off the hood. They should have been recalled.

Thanks for the memories about these GM cars, I liked the styling with the round brushed metal gauges and the wire wheel covers, white walls and padded vinyl landau roof. At the time I had a fondness for the 450SEL, but they were astronomically expensive, the uber German engineering won out.

This is a GORGEOUS car & I’m so glad you chose to do a video! You’re right…there aren’t many (spelled n-o-n-e) vids of these out there so yours is truly one-of-a-kind! I have a 77 Coupe DeVille & I think the interior of your Buick is nicer. BTW…where did you get the “proper” whitewall tires? They really enhance the look of this classy machine.

My mother had a 1980 Park Avenue. It had a 350 4 barrel carburetor. Those were real luxury cars and not the small 4 cylinder cars. My sister has a 2019 Lexus and the seats are not comfortable.

In '78 Some how, I didn't like what Buick did to the Electra. Coming from the last full sized Deuce & quarter(76) I had a Landau coupe fully equipped, Astroroof, limited slip,... I instead got a Riviera w/Astroroof, limited slip, 4 wheel disc, a repeat of options from my deuce. Bc my loyal salesman told me they were changing to FWD. The 403 4bbl somehow felt sportier on the Riv, than Electra coupe. But, nice video.
