Unless you have 5.25" hard drives from the 1980's, they are not HD mounts. 1:19

What do you use for redundancy? How do you ensure that you're files are still usable if a hard drive crashes? (Sorry for the noob question. I'm not much of a techie) Also would I be able to use this device to store my video collection and stream through Plex?

Ok, so redundancy is 2 things. 1) I'm going to create a RAID 5 system. I haven't and haven't made a video about it yet. And 2) I'm going to share files with a friend in case of total failure - I haven't done that yet either. It's all coming. Plex. Yes. But if you want to live transcode, you'll need more than an i3.

you just do raid 1-5 depending on your budget and if you have more to spend and want speed do raid 0 over raid 1-5

That's the exact question I have... I want to use it for working off it, if that is possible I don't have 10Gb Ethernet Would a speed of 1gb/125mbs be enough to video edit off of

Ernest L editing video is one of the heaviest things you can do on a network. You'll need your server to be ssd based and 10gb Ethernet would be smart. You basically want the video to respond as if it was on a local drive. And over network... That's expensive. Or, buy another drive for your comp, store files locally until edited, then back them up.

My home server is an old Dell mobo with Core i3 transplanted into an old NZXT Gamma case with a good PSU, system SSD, and 8 TB of hard drive space. Idles at something around 40W and "serves" Plex video rather well.
