Pro-Tip - When you make the Lego mould for your wall, spray a thin layer of light oil, such as WD40 on the lego first. When the wall dries, you'll be able to pry the lego off the wall with ease without disturbing or breaking any stones away.

Neat. A simple base, works great for photography. I built one much the same for my Verlinden Pzkfw IIL Luchs. I set it up to look like a road in the Falaise Gap, the tank abandoned after running out of fuel, with a couple of soldiers walking past during the retreat.

The “I think that’s the technical term for it” about the krycell water made me chuckle. Good stuff as always…the blending looks so realistic…enjoying it from across the pond!

Absolutely glorious! 👍 and the neat trick with the lego was inspired! Blimey, laser cut Flower's!? Modeling has certainly come on from when I was doing it back in the 80's, the stuff available now really does allow someone like yourself with bags of talent to really be very creative.

Brill idea with the Lego. Ive tried Stone walls with Talus myself in the past, but took the far more laborious approach of gluing individual stones.... Off to the attic to dig out the kids old lego stash!
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a fun approach. I've tried it with bracing made from XPS foam before too, but (fake) Lego seemed better.

An easier way to make the wall is to use a museli bar, one without raisins though. And when painting it use enamels so it doesn't affect the syrup holing it all together, if you need a broken down area all you do is take a bite (before painting) hope this helps....
@ModelNerd

Haha. I do wonder about those dioramas that use baking powder for snow, herbs for groundwork etc - surely that has potential to be bug central?

I really enjoyed the tank build and the vignette is the icing on the cake (so as to speak)....such a great job and many thanks for your tips, especially with the wall. I concur with your thoughts about using foam to make a stone wall.....easy to carve and less messy than pebbles and glue. Thanks and see you soon.

Nicely done! I have plans for something similar, your video has given me some good pointers for making it. Another video I've seen recommends coating the inside of the Lego mould with Vaseline to reduce the risk of the stones sticking to it.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian. I think the Vaseline would work - I thought the lower surface area of the Lego would be enough, but it wasn't really.

Excellent! I'm going to make a few more too, after realising that smaller vignettes like this are much more fun than some of the huge A4+ sized dioramas I tried to make when I first got back into modeller.

Very nice vid, great little scene. Wouldn't it be a little easier to use slightly smaller stones for that wall? I think the company Javis makes smaller stone type things for this sort of use. They look just a little bit unsteady when they're together. Great vid though, and thanks for sharing.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You might be right. I have some much smaller stones (gravel-like) but nothing in between and at the moment I can't go out to get any :( I certainly think 'flatter' stones would be more realistic too.
