I've really enjoyed my Stream Deck+ ! It's a pretty decent integration of a GoXLR Mini and a Stream Deck, in my opinion. It isn't ULTRA feature packed, but for a growing creator it allows me to do a ton in terms of managing audio and visuals on my streams, all in one place!

Great to see this series kicking off! I have a setup based on your recommendations in the past. It closely resembles setup #3, except I use a Hero 3+ with the knock off cam link and a touch more up-market mic and lighting. It has been SUPER reliable and I bought it used over 2 years ago. Shameless plug but check out my most recent short for an example of how it looks. Happy to share the rest of my setup if it'd help! Looking forward to the other two parts Harris. Thank you for being a baller like always. I wouldn't even be able to make content if it wasn't for your guidance, so I appreciate you!

One thing I will say about the C920 is that you can definitely make that thing SING with a few adjustments in OBS. Toggling off auto exposure and dropping it down a notch or two will help with the blown out whites, while tweaking sharpness, brightness, and contrast a little bit will also bring that camera up from the absolute bottom of the barrel it sits at using out of the box settings. Just my little added tidbit!

If you capture some samples with a color checker card you can roll that into DaVinci resolve and generate a lut with all the color tweaks for the camera pass this into obs and assign to the camera it's like magic you can take any webcam with gain turn down and a mildly dark exposure and fixed settings and pull life into it

Auto settings DESTROY webcams. Manually setting everything is by far the best way to make them look amazing.
@ZoeyR86
@ZoeyR86 11 ай бұрын
@CameraTim absolutely get it as good as you can all manual settings take screen shots of the settings make sure your not blowing out the Highs or crushing the lows putting an nd4 or nd8 filter over the web cam and dropping the gain in favor of longer exposure and using a pair of led panels. Once you have it as good as you can get a small clip or a screenshot from obs with a color card in view DaVinci resolve can create and export a LUT for obs but you can also make tweaks to the lut if you want to go for a certain feel in the color. I have done this with a Logitech brio at a 1080P60 before I spent almost 20k on my podcast setup but I do guest and stuff nowadays have an obsession with gear

The original HD Elgato Facecams are turning up used for not much more than a GoPro Hero 4 now! That'll change the budget setup game. I picked up 2 recently (one was £60!) and am aiming to get another two to turn my home recording studio into a kitchen table version of Daryl Hall's house. It's a recording studio, so (like streamers) I've got audio well covered and the lack of mic in a Facecam is....probably a blessing. Well done Harris, as ever. I'm neither a streamer nor gamer but your advice always works for me as a musician and studio owner!

This is fantastic advice for anyone wanting to get started! Recommend the USB wireless mics, paired with cheap lights, and some effort creating an atmosphere; then a modern cell phone camera can make a high quality video. It's better to spend disposable income to upgrade over time; instead of going broke while starting out.

Video released 9 minutes ago and it appeared on my home page. KZfaq knows I'm a fan. While I enjoy these videos, feels like it's missing the mark for me, I would love to see more new budget gear like the knockoff camlink with side by side with the original, and more about planning and logistics on setting up a streaming space. There is so much you have to get right from longer cables to power extension leads to connectors, clamps, light fittings, battery chargers, usb extension cables - I literally have boxes of cables and connectors from failed experiments and I bet every streamer does too. Still enjoyed the video. Amazing the contrast between the pro establishment shot camera and the cheap cameras. 🙂

Ugh... Cables... Yeah, I had to buy a female-to-female HDMI adapter recently when I tried something new because the short HDMI to Mini-HDMI (or was it micro?) cable which had been fine before was now too short. Streaming quickly teaches you to buy longer cables than you think you will need. That and USB power plugs (I have two of the three-port IKEA ones), because you will easily run out of USB ports and half of them are only being used for power.

I use a pair of ring lights and combined they cost me less than $15. They're off brand lights and I got them at a store called Ollie's Bargain Outlet. They do the job for what I need. My camera is a Logitech C270 (which I need to upgrade, but it works, so that's what's important; $35 at Target) and my microphone is an Elgato Wave 1. The Wave 1 is the most expensive thing I use (besides my computer and monitors, of course). I started with a Vivitar webcam, so the C270 was an upgrade. If you're looking for a camera that will show your face, a $12 Vivitar will do the job. It won't do it well, but it'll put your mug on the screen. I can't afford a GoPro or anything fancy like that (I just don't make enough (or any) money from streaming to justify spending that amount of money on it). Great video, Harris. Keep up the good work.

I have an A5100 going into a Camlink 4K, but my mic is a Wave:3 and my lighting is quite simple (one LED panel close up, one IKEA lamp diffused by an off-white wall) - very happy with the camera (I bought it over a year ago based on one of your other videos) but I'm starting to record stuff away from my PC and that means I'm now looking at shotgun mics (tempted by a Røde mic) or maybe a lav mic and better lighting. It's embarrassing in some ways, because I studied lighting and sound tech at college and those are where I skimped; maybe it's just that I know how to get more from less, while cameras are not my forte. My Sony A5100 is easily may favourite part of my setup, no question. I might have survived with something cheaper, I do have vague plans to upgrade to something with 4K one day, but it's let me film some lower-light shots and scenes with low-key lighting that my old webcam and even my phone might have struggled with. Plus, real lenses mean real depth of field and real depth of field means bokeh...

My C920 is still kicking and looks a lot better than that but I don’t have the best lighting setup. I’m using just two room lamps with smart bulbs but when I adjust the brightness on each of them to make one side lighter than the other I can get some reasonable lighting I don’t think it looks too bad. I think about upgrading my lights and cameras everyday though to make the lighting better. I like where it’s at now but I’d like more dramatic lighting on my face.

I appreciate what you showed but with a little extra work you can make each them work for your setup or your pocket book. Okay that Logitech C920 probably isn't the issue with the setup #2 them lights could be fixed with parchment paper and a clothes pin or even filters in OBS. Also, DIY lights can give the same effect with smaller price point. I have a C922 and it still looks good honestly after all this time with DIY lights made with parts from Walmart. I know I will have to upgrade but for what I do it definitely does the job. Also for my original videos on my page I shot everything on a Samsung Note 8 with iPhone headphones and edited my videos on the same phone using KineMaster Pro. I say this to show that it just depends on how much you want it too. You'll figure it out and find a way!

Great video! First setup was hands down my favorite. One downside though, EpocCam isn't available for android. Also, I wouldn't say that using the camera on a 1000$ phone is "only 8 dollars". Sure, if you have it, but most don't. I can't believe that that exposure on the C920 was adjusted though. And you've spent your fair share of time adjusting the settings on that camera so was that just the "this is what most would probably do" kind of scenario?

Added, many are asking same/more than the PowerConf C200. So I'm super curious. ⚠. Also, with the new iPhone supposedly dropping, look for a new wave of used iPhones hitting Craigslist et al. I've also looked around for older iPhone 8s that had a clear camera solely as a streaming rig. Scratches on the body bother me less.

Can you suggest some "inexpensive" cell phones (or older phones one might have laying around) which provide good streaming quality?

Logitech c930 is a good wide angle that is the same price currently as the c920 and cheaper than the c922 with better quality differences👀

I'm not gonna be too hard on you for this cause overall this was a pretty good, but it bothered me that the microphone arm wasn't factored into the cost of the setup. Essentially, I feel like this should've included ways to prop up your microphone and webcam too. The audio quality isn't nearly going to be as good if it's propped up on the desk with its default stand, and not everyone has a tripod and smartphone clip in their closet. Not to mention the arm shown costs the whole budget of the first setup + 20 usd or so. My favourite piece of gear is probably still my GoXLR Mini, I've kind of taken the input and output routing and physical port setup for granted. It's so useful even outside of creation.

Yo would u be down to test the blue perrot as a headset for beginners it's 100 for their entry level headset and it being a full headset Bluetooth with a massive battery life and impressive range so if u have to walk off stream u can still talk to stream as u are out of the room and hear ur text to voice notifications plus I think for IRL streams it's active noise cancelling and everything make it a better option than a lav for mobile streaming especially for price but I don't have a massive collection I can side by side with

I'm trying to figure out a budget around the things I have already. I have a Nvidia Rtx 4070, peripherals, storage.I currently use Nitro AN515-53 with 8tb external hdd extra ram, & hdmi to second screen, with logitech gaming peripherals. (I won those and gpu) I have a elgato mic as well. Any tips on specifics for the pc? :)

I know you said you can’t recommend the C920, but what are thoughts on the C920 Pro? Cause my setup is currently the C920 Pro as well as an AudioTechnica 2020 microphone. Seems decent to me, but I’m no professional at this.

Well, it's an "8$ cam" if you have an iPhone, if not then it's not gonna work. And this is a 2nd video about cheap stream setups, when Elgato Epoc and iPhone are mentioned. The 2nd option should be the first one in my opinion and the setup with iPhone should be mentioned as an extra option maybe? :)
