I think the model of Quaid looks great. It all comes together in the painting of it. Getting the colours right does the majority of the work when painting well known faces and getting them to look accurate.

Hi Phil, just adding to everyone elses comments about your great tutorial build video. You do such great work. And just to supplement the other folk's great comments, your narratives along the way are wonderfully entertaining as well as informative! You seem to have such a fondness for your model building and interject (sorry no pun intended) so much enthusiasm. I did get the stuido scale BNI Kilowatt (Father/Pa) and Carmen (Mother/Ma) kits from Cris at GoldenArmor recently and they are amazing 3D printed/multimedia kits. Regarding the flood lights on the Kraken II model. I did learn a bit of history about the ILM special effects miniatures for the movie INNERSPACE: "There were seven complete models of the hero's pod, four designed for underwater photography. These had extremely bright practical headlights that functioned as the primary lighting source, with self-contained RC units to move them and the engines and the pod arms. Pod sizes were 2', 1', 8", and 4". Forty-one scenes were non-optical shots with pod models and the sets built in similar scale. We also designed and constructed the villain's full-size pod, as well as one model pod 1' high, which worked as a rod and stop-motion puppet." I will drop you a line via your email with more info. May I also offer a couple of thoughts regarding this build? I had luck in the past with reduced interior model kit lighting using a section of round acrylic rod that I sanded lightly to chafe and give the outer surface a "tooth". I then drilled a hole part way at the center of the rod and inserted a single standard LED that made the rod glow like a fluorescent tube. This technique workes wonders when you want constant lighting and when you want a lighted pulsating/glowing effect as well. The key is to set the end of the LED at the center of the rod for even lighting. Or if the rod diameter is large enough the hole can be drilled at one end of the rod, but the resultant lighting may not be as uniform. The interior of the Kraken II appears perfect for surface-mounting any wiring to the bulkheads just like a full-size submarines/mini subs. Several great examples of this are the full-size mini subs in the movie The Abyss. If you have ever been below deck on surface ships or submarines this surface-mounting of pipes and wires is very common. Looking forward very much to your Kraken II part 2 video.🙂

Forgot all about the movie until you started working on this kit. The kit parts look amazing and so clean, just incredible work.

I discovered this when I was ramdomly looking into it as a companion piece for my Proteus Kit. I actually bought the files. There is also a Mr Igoe Pod file download from Cults 3D. I intend to download that too. Would actually make a great companion piece to the Kraken 2. It would almost be a conversation with all the companion pieces.

I'm late on saying this but, if you look there was some sort of rotational cuff on R2D2, astromech builders use them that makes it so you can rotate the head 360 degrees fast without pinching wires. Use that maybe as your base, then make the base the platform from when Dennis Quad first shrinks in the pod. That way the pod rotates on a display too.

I never skip, never. I do prefer shorter hunks merely for the rest of my day's allocation of time. This was such a fun and cool movie-- (Where's your Proteus?) I say make a giant blood vessel! I dunno, find a big tube or something translucent and light it like an artery! I would'a run the FO to a variety of LEDs that blink-- those controls need to blink in patterns.

You can open STL files with PREVIEW. You can even rotate and move them in 3D. I'm sure someone else has already told you, but there it is.

How can you skip your content. I enjoy listening to your way of thinking. Great model so far Phil. looking forward to seeing more of this. Great movie as well

Golden Armor does design really nice kits, I have their Klingon Bird of Prey. It is very well thought out, your kit looks like a lot of fun. Those handlebars you were puzzled about look to me like rudder pedals. Look forward to your next episode.

Mr. Quaid looks like he is about 1/12 or 6" scale. You could fit Star Wars Black Series, Marvel Legends, and some McFarlane action figures in there if you wanted. That is a nice size for sure! The top reminds me of the ThunderTank! Nice work, Phil!

"More than Mac": A Mac is a beautiful thing, Actually 2 operating systems in one. Linux and Mac OS which is Linux, Around we go. Interestingly, all it takes is money to make a Mac be Windows. "Parallels" is a Windows emulator. You install Parallels, then install Windows 10 (or 11 if you are a masochist) "inside" Parallels. Costly. Parallels has a yearly price. Windows is of course around $250 a pop for the 10 Pro. But... What you get is the ability to run programs that run best under Windows and have your Mac in all its glory. Parallels does not "take over". I run Windows in a Window all the time on my flagship 16" MacBook Pro. All this is "M" series or Intel agnostic as well.

That looks a big print Phil i have to get one but what size is your build plate as i'm not sure it will print at that size on my anycubic photon mono x6 k also just watched your Dr Who film i forgot just how good it is 😀😀😀

BUT WHAT FLAVOUR WAS THE SOUP PHIL?!!!! Seriously, I think the figure does look like Quaid - maybe 5-10 years younger but quite passable - certainly much better than those figures for the flying sub and LIS Chariot......
