Build & Test a Rocket Motor Smoke Trail

5 ай бұрынToday I'm building and testing a component that goes into a rocket motor to produce a long burning smoke trail.
Having a smoke trail behind the rocket makes the launch a lot more fun to watch. This allows you to visually track the rocket all the way to apogee and also track it along the descent, making it easier to determine where the rocket will land.
This project is a small part of a large rocket motor build that is coming soon.

Super good stuff! Dan was the one who got me into rockets And yes I still have all my fingers. So far... So are you going to built some type of coyote? 🙂

Not planning on building the Coyote rocket but I will be building the motor that he was putting in it. I have an idea for a rocket as long as the motor build and test goes well.

Please realize that will keep pumping heat into the entire length of the PVC motor and not just the double-layer end cap. Also, not a good idea to have something like that burning during descent unless you're launching on a dry lake bed since it can catch ground vegetation on fire (I'm a retired firefighter) along with your rocket.

This "smoke element" is a part of one of Dan Pollino's motors that I will be building soon. He has launched it successfully so for this one, I just have to trust in his design. We shall see... As you have probably seen from my launch site videos, we have no danger of igniting anything on the ground in a several mile radius.
