This is how you build the best picnic table ever! How to build best picnic table ever is easy. Buy good wood to build the best picnic table. Buy stainless bolts, washer and nuts for build the best picnic table. Always make sure you have the proper tools to build the best picnic table. Take the time, and is staining the picnic table make sure to sand properly. Do not skimp when build the best picnic table. Make sure the picnic bench's on the side are also sanded, etc. This picnic table is 8 feet long by 37 inches wide. It is a nice size. So below are the instructions and how to build the best picnic table ever!
Materials Used:
4" Screws:
amzn.to/3g2rpgh
2.5" Screws:
amzn.to/2CxJLXR
Stainless Carriage Bolts:
amzn.to/2CHD2Ld
Stainless Washers:
amzn.to/31gfuHt
Stainless Lock Washers:
amzn.to/2CyPo8a
Stainless Bolts:
amzn.to/2Zd9oF0
Oil Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner:
amzn.to/31i9OwO
Danish Oil (Light Walnut):
amzn.to/3i8HXoP
Oil Based Spar Urethane (Satin):
amzn.to/3fYCoay
12" Skil Saw Miter Saw:
amzn.to/2Viiv6t
Steps and how to build the best picnic table:
1. Lay out the top of the picnic table by setting four 8-foot-long 2x10 boards edge-to-edge. Be sure the best-looking surface of each board is facing down.
2. Place nails between the picnic table boards to act as spacers.
3. Cut three 2x4 cleats to 32 inches long. Miter-cut both ends of each cleat to 45 degrees. Sand ends smooth on edges.
4. Apply liquid nail adhesive to the picnic table 2x10s across the center of the 8-foot-long tabletop where the cleat will lay.
5. Set a 2x4 cleat into the adhesive and fasten it down to the picnic table boards with 2½-inch-long decking screws.
6. Glue and screw down the remaining 2x4 cleats, positioning each 16 inches from the end of the picnic table tabletop.
7. Cut the picnic table legs from pressure-treated 2x8s. Trim the picnic table leg ends to 28 degrees.
8. Cut and fasten a 2x8 cross brace to each pair of legs, forming two A-frame assemblies. I set mine so that the legs are in line with the top edge 45 degree cut of the 2x4 cleates or 4 3/4" from edge of table on each side. Apply so that the top edge where the benches will go is at 15.5" (or around there based on your desired picnic bench height). If you like your kitchen chairs, measure then and set picnic bench height accordingly.
9. Apply construction adhesive to the top, inside surface of the legs, then attach the A-frame leg assemblies to the 2x4 cleats with 4-inch-long decking screws. Mine came out to 4 3/4" from the edge on each side.
10. Cut and install two 2x4 diagonal braces to the underside of the tabletop. Screw the diagonal braces to the tabletop and to the cross brace on the leg assemblies.
11. Fortify the connection between the cross brace and legs with ⅜-inch-diameter x 3½-inch-long galvanized carriage bolts. Install two bolts to each leg. I used washers and locking washer to secure the connection.
12. Use an adjustable wrench or impact drill to tighten hex nuts onto the carriage bolts, then peen over the bolt ends with a hammer to prevent the nuts from loosening. Flip over the picnic table and set it on its feet.
13. Cut two 2x6 seat boards and three 2x4 cleats for each picnic table bench seat. Glue and screw the cleats to the underside of the 2x6s.
14. Apply adhesive to the top edges of the cross braces that extend out from the picnic table legs. Set the bench seats on top of the braces.
15. Fasten the seats to the braces with 2½-inch-long decking screws.
16. Sand everything with 150 grit and finish briefly with 220 grit.
Staining and Painting:
You can finish this picnic table any way you want. I chose to stain it with Danish Oil, light walnut, and then finish with three coats of a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and semi-gloss outdoor spar urethane. Then finished with 3 coats of satin outdoor spar urethane at full strength.

Great video, some things are a little confusing because they weren’t explained but this is one of the better picnic table videos because it makes the project seem doable.

This is a great video. I am going to do a picnic table in a New England Ocean Front House and it will hopefully last for many years to come for all of the people that visit. Many hot summers and wet cold winters. Thank You.

Captain... GREAT looking table/bench, nice job! The only thing that I noticed that you missed to say... is when setting up the lumber for the top of seats and table... always place the cup side (wood grain) down, other wise after a year or two the edges (of the 2x) will warp upwardly... Boy Scouts moto... wood is gonna warp over time, choose what direction before building.

i'[m sorry to have missed the legs being put on. It's the reason I've searched for a picnic table build. As a neighbor has been kindly mowing my lawn, the picnic table comes apart or loosens every time he shifts it. It is a massively heavy table that I need to sure up before it comes totally apart. Thanks for this video. You've given many tips!!

EDIT: I was able to figure out the legs, I made the picnic table thanks to your video, thank you! I’m trying to make the leg cuts on a circular saw. Can you clarify from what point to what point on the leg is the 32-1/4 mark? When I use my speed square to mark the cut at a 28 degree angle the leg ends up being too short

Do you have any digital plans for this build? This a great picnic table and I want mirror the end result. It came out great. I want a 7 footer just due to the limited space I have. AWESOME, AWESOME JOB!
@CaptainBerz
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
Hey there. Thank you. No, I do not have digital plans, sorry. Once you are making it, you could see what works size wise. Theoretically, given there is more than 6" on each side past the frame of it, you could build it the same way and just cut it shorter.

What was the 5th 2x10 for? In your video your only using 4 for the table top.
@CaptainBerz
@CaptainBerz 3 ай бұрын
I explain it in the video. I always get an extra one and see which four pair the best together. Rather than not liking the way they seat together and running back out. Plus, you can always use extra lumber at some point at home!
