I was wondering, when it comes to the painting knives. How are the quality differences in the Bob Ross brands vs the store brands. I looked at a set of the knives at Michaels and felt they were a little too flimsy. Now I haven't put my hands on a set of the Bob Ross branded knives. So what are the differences on their flexibility vs rigidity, and metal thicknesses? Also, just a pointer, you could make a BR style palette out of a piece of plexiglass or flat acrylic with a Dremel.

I've noticed using different easels, the Bob ross angles down which I think helps better than angling up to hit the canvas just at the right angle with your brush. Helps with a cleaner edge from your 2" brush especially. I use to think that maybe it was for the TV camera and glare. Maybe it's his secret way of working that 2" brush!

hi wild, well after months of practising on canvas paper finally tried the painting in the box!! followed your advice - grey gesso x2 check , fingertips test on liquid white check, did sky and water check not bad at all. then disaster, clouds ended up light blue LOL, so mixed into sky and tried again, nope. tried little mackeral clouds yeah success, come to mountain NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!! held knife like you suggested but to no avail all merged again. so mixed all together on canvas and am now letting dry, but am not discouraged as i think i know where i went wrong, did not dry out brush enough and TOO MUCH paint, was using a 16" x 20" panel. But the thing was i finally took that step and had a go after days of prevaricating, I know it probably sounds a really simple question, and maybe ive missed this in ine of your other videos, but when squeezing the paints on the palette from the tube, how much - for the above sized canvas for example is there a technique?? Anyway thanks for reading this and i will have a gp next weekend. PEACE (v sign like john lennon/winston churchill)
@WildCreates

Ha ha ha - well it sounds like to me.... You are on the right path ha ha ha. The first step is just having the courage to start. From here its just practice and things will start to click after a while. My advice is: start simple.... try one of my paint alongs. To answer your question... There really isn't an answer because too many variables. BUT do this. Only squeeze out about a quarter size at a time. Its a pain in the butt to keep squeezing BUT it will save you money in the long run and you will waste less paint. I hope that helps you out.

I find that 16x20in (40x50cm) canvas is to small to follow the video tutorials of Bob Ross as I often feel that 2 inch brush is too big and clumsy for the spot in composition. Where in video tutorial it fits perfect. I recommend 18x24 as Bob originally used. Canvas size 16x20in (40x50cm) is used by Brandon Thomas from "The Painting With Magic Show" but he selects brush size and adjust technique to fit the canvas size.
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 2 жыл бұрын
Bigger is nicer since it does allow for more room for error if you make any. But once you learn a little brush control you can paint on any size and make it work :)

Hey Wild, thanks for the video - I've recently gotten into painting and I was hoping you could help me out with something: Could you tell me what type of bristle is the best for wet-on-wet (or multiple types). The brushes I got are hog hair and I'm not sure if they are the correct type. The one Bob uses in videos seem softer to me... What would you recomend? I've seen camel and goat around mostly - in the softer category. Unfortunatley I cannot get the official Bob Ross merch in my area...
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the BR brushes are hog hair. You could always email the BR company and I can sure they can tell ya. At the moment dont worry to much about the stiff or softness of the brushes. As you paint more and learn what you like and dont like, you can start to build and refine your painting tool bag to brushes and tools that fit your needs.

How do you paint flowers in a field at a distance
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Short-ish Answer: Flowers at a distance are generally just fuzzy soft color blobs that are tapped in with a 1 or 2 inch brush. They wont have much detail since their perspective is further from the fore-ground. Just add some slight taps of colors and if will look like flower fields at a distance. Hope that helps

hi, thank you again for everything as usual perfect video. Have you recently bought any Bob Ross brushes? All brushes i bought from amazon and even from Jerrys are made in Germany instead of USA and are not as same as the orginal. The 1 inch landscape brush does'nt have the upper shape of the orginal brush it looks more like Bill Alexander's and the foliage brushes are not Roundy anymore. I know this is not the first time I have raised this issue but its realy buging me. I just called Bob Ross company and they confirmed it, they started manufucture their brushes in Germany. I'm realy disappointed.

I already have the master set, and recently ordered quite a few of the other supplies on your list before this video came out. They were supposed to be delivered today, but from the tracking info it looks like FedEx is running late. I did order liquid black. I love Bob's paintings that start with a dark backgrounds. Some of the items on your list that I don't already have or have on order have caused my "need to get eventually" list to grow. I don't have a Bob Ross easel, but am very tempted by it. I do have this easel: www.JerrysArtArama.com/carolina-studio-easel which works well enough. It has one slight design flaw that I've noticed. The upper clamp can only go down to the point where the center support extension meets the main center support. That should be low enough for someone of average height standing to paint. Do you have any tips on preserving leftover paint between painting sessions? Do you have any tips on storing wet canvases out of harms way while drying? I live in a semi-rural area between two small towns. I have the occasional battle with rodents trying to invade my house. They seem to be attracted to the wet canvases. I have dogs who help me keep them under control, but they also limit my options. Rat poison is not an option.
