If a canvas says it is already gessoed, do we still need to gesso?
@WildCreates14 сағат бұрын
Depends on the art and style you are going for. If you are a brand new artist, I personal recommend putting on at least 1 more extra coat of gesso. I have a video here that goes over why adding that extra layer of gesso is important: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hpl7Zr2U3t2lZ2Q.html&t Hope that helps.

Man, this is fantastic!!! An absolutely perfect nebula painting - I really do dig it! Thank you, Wild, for the tutorial!!! *Newbie Question:* _Once you start the painting, must you finish it before it dries, or can you return, say a couple of days later, to either finish it and/or work on it some more?_ Nobody really touches on this in any of the videos I've watched. Thanks,
@WildCreatesКүн бұрын
That's a great question for newbies. If you are painting with acrylics you will notice that some sections will start drying in like 5 to 10 mins ( totally normal ). If you don't have enough time to finish, find a good stopping point that will be easy to start from again. In the video, you will notice that I break the tutorial into chapters... any one of those chapters are a great stop and starting point. If you like this nebula you might enjoy the other ones we did too: - Purple Nebula: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9yjqL2fncWvpGw.html - Blue Nebula: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8d4hLSgkrHZkYk.html

Man, you're a real inspiration to a newbie like me, and with some practice and dedication, I hope to one day paint just half as well. Thanks again and I'll catch you again on the next one. Meanwhile, have a great day, Wild! Cheers,

I just discovered you, THANK YOU!! I appreciate your words of wisdom and will be incorporating that into my paintings. I am from Washington State and the contrast between forest and desert is amazing. The deep valleys and evergreens with plateaus on either side. I love the beauty of the forest stopping and where desert begins. I am searching for tutorials on these extremes to paint. Do you have any ideas on this? Again, thank you.

Can the clear be used to mix with oil paints to prevent custim mix colors from drying out, and act as a medium/thinner? If so, can this be heat cured? Or heat set?
@WildCreates2 күн бұрын
Yes you can mix this with your colors ( I do it all the time ) Depending on what you mean by heat cured... NO you should not expose this to an intense heat source or flame. It has a flash point and will release VOCs. Just let it slow dry and evaporate and you will be good 🔥 I hope that helps.
@jamiematthews92932 күн бұрын
@WildCreates I'm painting vinyl dolls that typically use genesis heat set paint, and they get baked in a nuwave oven on 265 for 7 mins. Since genesis is shutting down, alot of artists in the community are going back to the og painting with oils. There's a thinning oil sold specifically to heat set with the oil paints to cure them but it's a little on the spendy side so I was hoping for an alternative. But it sounds like they add an eva poly binder to it for heat setting so now it's getting complicated lol looks like I'll just have to spend the money on the xodus thinning oil specifically for this kind of painting. Thanks anyway!!
@WildCreates2 күн бұрын
Send me a link to the thinning oil and I will see if I can find or know of anything that might work.

Glad that you and your family are doing better! Side note: I just wanted to say that I really loved your twitch streams from a few years ago. I really enjoyed your segments where you would offer critique and feedback on people's Twitch streams, their bios, and about sections. To this day, I still think about some of the advice you gave to others and I apply it to my streams and profile page. All that to say, maybe there's still something to do with that there. Maybe not with Twitch exactly, but maybe with art. You seem really good at effectively communicating constructive feedback. So maybe that's for your private lessons, maybe that's for something else... but regardless, just wanted to say thanks because I find your twitch insights and advice from years ago still relevant and incredibly useful.

I think people urn for my Twitch advice again.... So I hope my content will be well received again.

Hullo, It is good to hear that you and your family are doing well. I have been enjoying your videos, Thank You for your reviews and commentary. I have always sold out of any scenic work done in the "Bob Ross" vein. So what I mean by this is a canvas or paper sized 18x24 and readily recognizable landscape views. Also standard sizes are so important if you are not going to frame you work, this makes the final price less expensive too! SO fire up those oils or acrylics and make some sweet landscapes! I have mainly sold at watercolor events, but I have also sold at Renaissance fair's too. If this is your market, the Scenic pictures will do well, but adding mythical creatures are a sure bet for increased sales! Dragons are the best draw in my experience. The other big seller for me was the remote castle standing high on a hill. If you do Elf or humanoid portraits, Sweet is always better than sexy. Boys will be boys, but if you offend the Mrs. they will not be taking your art home! I have no idea if this is a helpful comment for you, but it is NOT a flame nor hateful. Be safe and have a lovely day!
