So yours is Minister of Finance too? Oh, the afflictions of married life! As for ironbark, I'm jealous, Shane. We don't want treated wood for our fence posts either, and the hinoki in these parts is all secondary growth harvested too early, thus it has little of the traditional resistance to insects and disease that the old-growth stuff had. The fence, by the way, is necessary because deer and wild boar are eating up all of our annuals and flowering shrubs, and the bucks are tearing up the trunks of our trees while sharpening their antlers. It'll have to be strong and high but, because of ever more powerful typhoons, even with the posts well dug in and anchored in concrete, I'll have to use hog wire on the rails instead of attractive paling.

Great fence I had never come across iron bark till my son moved to brisy and I helped him renavate a house built in 1960. I take my hat off to you working with timber like that so hard on the tools for ever sharpening tools breaking drills ect. The timber name is so true. Steve.

That fence is stunning. Some brilliant tips in there too. My favourites I wish I'd considered before doing one a few years ago is about the water drainage, both in the cement where the post meets the ground, and on the top of the posts, plus setting the drill to seat the screw flush in the pre-drilled holes. So tempting to use the impact when you have one, but this is much better. Even if you do use an impact, setting it so that it stops when seated flush will be such a time saver with so many screws. Great to see another video! All the best.

Cheers Andy! Good to hear from you mate 👍 Gotta say, you have to be careful with the stainless steel screws...especially when going into hardwood. Any sort of resistance and they will snap off leaving you a major headache trying to remove them. Thanks for watching mate. 👍👍

С удовольствием посмотрел бы мастер классы за деньги… но мы сейчас под «сильными» 😂 санкциями-у нас не принимают денежные переводы за границу страны. 😅 . Против кого в итоге эти санкции,не понятно))

Nice wood. Here in my neck of the woods, holes are 34” down by 6”. 1/2 bag of concrete then construction mixed foam to the top (water proof). Also 16 penny nails in the post to give them grip in the ground. Using 12 penny ringed plated nails will last longer than screws. My deck here in Ohio is 25yrs old. Pressure treated and cedar skirt. 4x6 post, 36”by 14” hole x 9, 2x12 beams on 8’, 2x10 joists on 16” 5/4 deck with 1/4” gap. Your fence with pre drilled screw is perfect for that hard wood thou. 🤜🏽🤛🏽👍🏼

So the foam sets rock hard in an hour. In Florida, after Hurricane Michael, the electric company set poles in 20 mins. Four truck crews, drill, raise pole, mix foam into one tube and fill half way. Hold for 15 and move to next. Last crew re-wire. And did maybe a mile of wire in the morning by afternoon they text a warning power coming on and to check neighbor hood outside breaker to off. Amazing to see crews from thousand miles away to work in 95° heat.

When you set wooden posts into concrete over a few seasons the wood expands and shrinks which leaves a gap for water to get into. A good bead of silicone around the post after first year usually will take care of it. Especially important if you live where the ground can freeze which can cause concrete to crack.

Personally, I always use concrete godfather posts and bolt the timber posts to those, so no wood in contact with the ground. It's a simple job to unbolt a post if it needs to be replaced in the future.
