Made mine a few weeks ago... based off of your design..... really did take out all the scratches i was having so much trouble with!... I'm using stewmac wheels and compounds.... the medium works great but when I use the fine, I get a haze...... thinking i may just only use the medium ... no clue what is going wrong ...anyways thanks again for the great videos and tips

That's one of the reasons why i am so jealous at you Americans. I'm from Belgium, and over there , you'll just find regular Home depot stores. If your lucky, you find red cedar. Besides that, just pine and cheap building wood. Over here you have to search for specialized milling factories to find some descant wood and pay a lot of money for it. Or you have to go to places where they sell wood for guitars at ridiculous high prices, while you guys pay like 10 % of what we have to pay. You just go to Harbour Freight or a local home depot and even can buy, Maple, Ash, Alder, Mahogany and so on, at the price we pay for pine. And so many more like in the links here underneath. Also special paints, laquers, etc.. but since 9/11 80 % can't be send to you. PLUS.. high coast at shipping AND import duties. Makes it so not worth the money spent. BTW, liked your vid about your necks with scarf joint and volute ! I do that allready or years. Greetz.

Hello and thanks for sharing that great video. I have a question for you and that is do you put the intensive compound on the cotton polishing wheel or do you rub the compound on the guitar? Thanks.

Thanks Chris! Finished building mine this weekend! Used it to buff out a gloss black guitar today. I used the Bayland cotton wheels, with the brown and tan Menzerna; great results. Do you ever use the larger flannel buffs they have for guitars, and if so, what compound do you use? Thanks again for saving me about $300 over the Stew Mac model!

Hey man. Thanks for the video. I found a go kart axle that has 2” clearance for the buffing wheels, the flanges And the nut. How much space do you need on the end of the shafts or the hardware and buffing wheels? Thx in advance! Zach
@HighlineGuitars
@HighlineGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
2” isn’t going to be enough room for the flanges, buffing wheels, and nuts. You need at least 5.”

AWESOME Build..! I was going to copy the StewMac machine, but yours is a little more simple to make.... 3' is a standard length for threaded rod. AWESOME... $600+ for StewMac.. NOT..!

You can do away with both lock nuts by simply cutting a length of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe,,, schedule 40 or 80,, as a spacer that will cover the shaft from the motor, or in your case , pillow blocks to the wheel...I use a loose 1 1/4 flat washer between PVC and wheel....BTW,,,Only one 1 1/4" outside nut,,, left or right,, is really needed on your buffing shaft......this makes changing wheels really quick no wrench needed on right side,, simply tighten by turning the buff itself...Cut PVC spacers on Miter saw to make them really square...Just Saying,,,,,
