I have a ‘19 Trd Off-road. I did the billstein adjustable shocks and maxed them out so I guess 3” in the front, and did a 2” ready lift block in the back to keep the stock rear billstein shocks. I did the toyo mt 285 70 R17 with a 17x9 -12 fuel vector. Just as the video says no rub on the road until you hit bumps at full turns which means definitely rubbing off road on the fenders so light trimming required. Great performing and looking setup imo!

There's another guy who did a video that debunked whether lifting made a difference for tire fitment. He said since you aren't changing the lower control arms, and because castor corrections with new upper control arms don't actually favor more tire clearance, the wheel will still travel through the same motions regardless of lift. So if the tire doesn't fit at stock height, it still won't fit with a lift in true off-road articulation scenarios. You need a cab mount chop. Your tires should be made to fit without the lift to take advantage of wheel travel clearance. Otherwise you should just stay on flat surfaces. 2", 3", 4". It makes no difference.
@robertholler7262
@robertholler7262 4 ай бұрын
This is correct. The upward travel of the wheel is determined by the bump stop and not the springs. You could install a bigger bump stop which would negatively affect performance. To go bigger, ya gotta cut.

Yeah.. I wish to know all that before install Nitto Recon, 35/11.50/20 with 2” off set. It look amazing but I can feel is heavy for the suspension and it rubs. I also have have SPC upper control arms that helps a lot to not run the cap mount, but it does a Litle bit. So I will do some chopping and a re gear, then it will be perfect.

A common misconception is that more lift = bigger tires however this is not true. More lift may help clear tires at ride height but once you go off-road and compress your suspension you will still be running into clearance issues. The way to fit bigger tires is to have a forward bias alignment, and to trim for tires at full bump. If you don’t necessarily care about suspension travel extended bump stops are an option to prevent rubbing aswell

Isn't anything from stock to a 3" lift (ish) not going to make a difference whether the tire rubs or not? My thought is that regardless of ride height there is still the same path the suspension will cycle through. The lift only charges ride height and the relative up/down travel. This is assuming stock UCA, shock length and wheel offset is the same for comparison purposes
@bradarsenault6984
@bradarsenault6984 2 жыл бұрын
This is correct. Adding caster by moving the LCA forward is really the only way to change tire clearance (to the aft wheel well liner/cab mount) on stock or spring lifted suspension. This guy doesn't have a clue how the Tacoma IFS works.
@calebsanders4353
@calebsanders4353 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but most suspensions are progressive as they compress. So this minimizes rubbing. This assumes you are lifting by preloading your suspension. Lifting with spacers is a different story
@bradarsenault6984
@bradarsenault6984 2 жыл бұрын
@@calebsanders4353 What does the damping profile have to do with tire clearance? Progressive compression damping might reduce overall wheel travel for the same bump input (transfer more energy to the chassis toward the end of the shock stroke) vs digressive, but the tire will still rub at the same point in the suspension travel. If the suspension flexes over obstacles, especially when crawling/going slow, compression damping is irrelevant, which is where tire interference usually happens.

Yes. And it drives me crazy that so many "experts" don't seem to understand this very simple fact.

Have a 6 inch lift on my 2018 taco. I have 35/12.5/17. My tires rub. What size tire or rim will best fit without using spacers?

I recommend checking out our gallery page on our website! There are lots of others who have 2018 Tacomas with 6" lift kits. You can see the exact rims and tires they have on their rigs, along with other modifications. Hopefully you can find something you are looking for!

What would you consider a 4in lift? And what do you think of the actual ride quality when maxing out a 3" coil and spring.

Personally I like the kits from ReadyLift and Zone! Great products for a good price! Ride quality won't be too terrible at 3" but I would almost look for some nice tires as well if you are looking for a good ride quality!

@@TrailBuilt thanks for the info I really appreciate the reply! These new trucks seem to feel alright with drop bracket lifts in them. Cheers

New to the truck world since I r always been into Jdm and drifting. Just got a 2019 tacoma trd pro and want to do a 3” lift. It has fox trd suspension on it so would a 3” leveling kit be find if I put 33s on it?

I'd say so! Looks like we have a fair amount of Tacoma's in our gallery running those exact specs and are having no issue with getting it to fit. www.trailbuiltoffroad.com/wheel-offset-gallery?tire_height_from=33&sort=yno&year=2019&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma&drive=4WD&suspension=Suspension%20Lift%203q&rubbing=No%20rubbing%20or%20scrubbing

I don’t want the biggest tires as there really isn’t anywhere to go off-road here in Honolulu. I know there are some spots. I don’t really want to go rock crawling and don’t really have much free time so right now I’m keeping mine stock.
